    No matter how many episodes of this series (I shouldn't be alive) I watch, it NEVER ceases to AMAZE me just how strong the human body, mind, and spirit truly is! The fact that a human being can endure all of this and still be able to hold on to the hope that someone will find them and they will survive this is mind blowing to me! My mother has taught me so many life lessons, but one that always seems to prove itself time and time again is no matter how bad you think things are in your own life, there is ALWAYS going to be someone else who's got it much worse and would do anything to trade places with you. If those people can hold on and push through... so can you. I think it helps when you TRULY have the belief that life (or God, depending on whether or not you're a religious person) never gives you more than you can handle.

    I doubt anybody will ever read this comment but I've watched a ton of these and something about this episode just struck me as being so beyond incredible. It may be the best episode of this whole series. The fact that they all survived a violent plane crash in a small plane (an accident that normally kills all on board), then were able to survive 5 full days in the middle of the thick African bush with no water, two with terrible injuries. They all truly shouldn't be alive. There's the strong bonds between them - friends, husband and wife - that make it so much more dramatic. There's the guy who was responsible for them all being there, a CEO older than everyone else there with absolutely no bush survival skills, making the entirely selfless decision to try and walk out against all odds to save the rest of them. They encounter an elephant that could have easily killed them, but didn't. They somehow survived three or four nights without a fire without being taken by predators. They literally hit a needle in a haystack with that hunting lodge (whether you believe in divine miracles or not, it was an infinitely small chance) which resulted in their salvation. I just don't imagine you can have a more unlikely or compelling survival story than this. But who knows, I still have a lot of episodes left!

    Things I’ve learned from this series: 1.) Sadly, the first helicopter or airplane will never see you. 2.) When you think it’s the worst it can get, your “ordeal is only beginning” ... 3.) Wherever you go on earth, you should bring a camel pack full of water on your back and wear an extra camel pack on your front side and maybe carry a 3rd jug of water and... 4.) The tenacity and strength of the human spirit is amazing.

    @nadinekeating3255

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@ka1z932 How did the pilot "fuck up so many times"? Do you think he MADE the oil leak happen? No! Obviously he didn't! It was a plane crash, they are ACCIDENTS! It could have happened while ANY pilot was flying the plane! In fact, I think he did a great job giving the circumstances. Remember after the crash landing they even said that ALL passengers on board (including the pilot obviously) should have died from the impact! It was amazing that he was able to conduct an emergency crash landing without a single person losing their life! He also volunteered to walk to find help because the other man who was going to do it was injured. He didn't have to do that! He could have done nothing and just sat there until he either died or help arrived. If it wasn't for the pilot and the other man walking for DAYS through an African desert without water or shelter from the sun/heat or the many different animals who could have easily made meals of of them...EVERYONE would have died in that desert! The ONLY THING I will admit the pilot did that was a very stupid thing was to fly without the emergency receiver (or whatever that is called that wasn't mandatory to have where they were). That was absolutely a terrible decision on his part as the pilot, but I would never go as far as to say he "fucked up so many times" and shouldn't have been allowed to fly again after this! If whatever it was that he didn't have was not legally required then he didn't break any laws, so what reason would there be to strip him of his ability to fly airplanes? So if we were to go by YOUR "logic", anyone who has ever been behind the wheel of a car when they got into a car accident should never be allowed to drive again (and we're talking about a car accident that nobody was killed in, and the driver was not intoxicated or driving recklessly...just an unfortunate accident,,because that's the case with this pilot). How about a surgeon? He's operating on a patient, and through no fault of his own the patients heart stops and he/she dies. Should thay surgeon never be allowed to operate again? Even though the death of his patient had nothing to do with him not knowing what he's doing or being careless...it was just unfortunate that the patient suffered a heart attack at that time. What about being a parent? Kids get hurt all the time growing up...climbing trees and falling, falling down when learning to ride a bike, fall off a trampoline and hit their head, they can get injured playing sports... The list of possible injuries a child can have are endless, it just comes with being a kid. So what about the patents of these children (so basically every parent in the world)? Should there be a law that says you can never have any more children if one of your kids gets injured in an accident? Should authorities be able to legally take your kids away from you because one of your kids was climbing a tree, fell down and broke an arm? C'mon...that's a ridiculous statement to make. If this the way things go, nobody would be allowed to do anything. Accidents happen. It's just something we all (well, not all of us apparently 😕) understand and accept as a part of life. Imagine what this world would be like if anyone who's ever involved in any kind of an accident was treated in that way?

    No, the pilot did the right thing to shut off the oil-leaking engine. From there on , it's was up to the pilot's emergency landing skills. It might be possible in emergency landing situation , to try to circle several times & bring the plane vertically up at the very last moment before touchdown and land vertically down on it's tail , thereby cutting down velocity & minimising human injury.

    If you like this kind of stuff, I would recommend Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand, a novel based on a true story about a man named Louis Zamperini, an Olympic miler gone World War II bombardier whose plane goes down in the ocean - it’s a truly incredible and amazing story about his survival even in the harshest of conditions.

    I find the words of the railroad worker who saved the region of Allentown pa from horrific perishing who said, "once the fear of death is gone you can do amazing things". Having used his body to avoid an inevitable catastrophic collision. He survived with epilepsy, mental illness, many fractures and I believe partial paralysis. I love this human. Thanks be to God for this extraordinary creation.

    Turns out there's a lot more going on behind this story then what the program reveals, plane was being operated illegally, did not have a valid air worthy certificate plus another questionable legality. And there was no oil cap for the left engine found at the crash site; looks most probable that someone / he didn't check the oil cap! From years of reading air crash investigations, it seems to me most people in light aircraft crashes are killed because the pilot was deliberately breaking the rules. Checking out the pilots character is probably more important than even checking the aeroplane.

    What an amazing thing to find, near the end of their strength, that hunting lodge where a young woman sat reading a magazine. She simply picks up the phone/radio and calls for help. That he took the drink without asking and passed it to his companion was a nice touch. That reminded me of Flight of the Phoenix when the plane lands at the oasis and the workers are astounded.

    They got incredibly lucky, the chances of two men wandering around blindly finding that lodge was probably a million to one. Great story though, and a reminder to be ultra prepared when going into the wilderness. Supplies, means of communication, and basic survival skills can mean the difference between life and death. I certainly wouldn't want to be flying in a plane over that terrain without an emergency transponder either...
