    what if they’re lying. the whole time they bash marcus and say “he ruined the trip” “hell slow us down” “he complains all the time” what if they killed him and left, i mean the way they talk abt him, they never cared abt him it’s obvious, and why leave him in the middle of the amazon with a complete stranger? if they were true friends they’d have left and taken marcus home and gone again a different time. extremely selfish and gives me a weird feeling. i think they killed marcus or did something to him. they’re the only ones left to tell the story, they could’ve changed it.

    @@peanutsarecheap1997 - if you figure it out, who the lowlife dog is, please share. I'm not sure what disloyal thing either did that @Amjad Farooq is referring to. The 2 who went on the raft did expect to have a lesser chance than Karl staying with the guide. I guess this program makes the first saved friend seem awful in essentially telling the friend who died to ping off. I seriously doubt he actually did that however, especially judging his character by the efforts he put in to locate Yossi. I must admit I found it confusing that the guy with the bum feet is who aimed to walk out rather than float. Being with the guide, in theory, is undoubtedly the optimum choice though. Shame they had no idea he was known to abandon 'tourists' in the jungle. Incidentally, _"Jungle"_ is the name of the movie in which Daniel Radcliffe plays Yossi.

    Marcus is actually a hero. It because of his they did not end up going farther into the jungle. The Indian village Karl promised never existed so they would have all been stranded and would have parished. Kevin is responsible for his death, if he is indeed dead.

  • @stephenjones101

    That's taking it a bit too far. Marcus was acting like a girl with a broken heart, following his emotions and should have known he wasn't capable of going on a dangerous trip. He then allowed himself to follow along when his 'friends' made a very foolish and dangerous decision. He isn't as culpable as the rest and he was certainly betrayed by his 'friemds' but that doesn't make him a hero by any reasonable definition.

    @KDN the Indian Village did exist. It's an Indigenous tribe called the Toromonis. At the time this happened the Tribe was unknown because it's location is in an unexplored region. The only people that had ever been there were some missionaries and random explorers like Karl. These documentaries and the movie shouldn't have stated that the Tribe didn't exist. Also, Kevin seems to rely on a rumour about Karl to make himself look good.

The majority of these stories I watch are just bad luck, a rock fell on them and they got pinned down, they fell off a cliff and broke their leg or something, they happened to be in an airplane crash. This one? From the beginning it sounded like the dumbest idea and the only reason the two of them made it out was sheer dumb luck. Heading into the Amazon with a sketchy tour guide for a village that may or may not exist? Sign me up! Smh.

    I've read a lot of stories of Amazon explorers, including Teddy Roosevelt's exploration of the "River of Doubt" (aka "Roosevelt River"). One thing I have learned is that nearly every tribe that has never seen a civilized man takes extreme measures not to do so.. They go out of their way to protect their people from such encounters. It is highly likely this group would have been killed if they had ever made contact. They should have known this before making the attempt.

    WOW RIP Marcus, in an IRONIC WAY marcus SAVED their life!!!! no one else seeing this?? If it wasn't for Marcus complaining and being paranoid, all of them would have continued their journey into the jungle with carl and probably got lost and died. thats what carl did to so many people, that was carl's plan from beginning. taken them to jungle got them lost and left them there to die... if it wasnt for Marcus complaining those two would have never taken separate ways and made it out! so in an ironic way Marcus kinda saved their life! Even with their mistake, I cant believe they have the audacity to now talk badly of the dead instead of honoring his death. Leaving his legacy as a scared little dude when in reality he was the only smart one to want to turn around when he had a bad feeling about the trip. His death saved kev and the other dude but they probably feel too guilty to admit.

    I agree. And even when they were all about to separate and go off in pairs, Carl was still trying to convince the other two that they'd die if they went on the river... He was trying his best to discourage them and get them to follow him and Marcus. Ugh this is So sad and maddening at the same time. Poor Marcus didn't deserve to be abandoned by his "friends" who before Even starting this adventure into the jungle promised him that they go in together and come out together. And even when they were all about to separate poor Marcus said that to Kevin. And all Kevin did was look at him and say no I do not want you coming with us, you're not coming! Fucker!

    I can't believe Kevin blamed Marcus instead of Carl. It's because of Carl they never reached their destination. Kevin should never use the word friend in the same sentence as Marcus because Kevin clearly hated Marcus before this. Because there's no way a "friend" would treat a true friend like this, no way. Kevin told Marcus straight out "I do not want you to come with us". He was not going to let Marcus on the raft. Poor Marcus had no choice, against his better judgement, than to follow Carl. Marcus knew it would be better for them all to stay together, smh. And the only one that had remorse and thought of Marcus after leaving him was Yossi.

    This trip was a bad idea from the get-go. Who goes with some strange tour guide without researching their background and only going with what THEY tell you? Also, searching for some uncontacted tribe in the middle of a forest is essentially like walking into your own death. Uncontacted tribes do not take very well to outsiders. Even if they did find the tribe, they likely would've been killed anyway! This episode reminds me of that other Amazonian episode of ISBA where the guy goes off looking for Eldorado and almost gets himself killed by drug traffickers. The only one I feel sorry for here is Marcus because he got the bad end of the deal.

    it bothered me that Kevin's motivation for finding Yossi had nothing really to do with saving a human being's life. It was all about this "burden of guilt" Kevin would have to bear for the rest of his life if he didn't find Yossi. Like it was more of an ego thing --he seemed the type to "tidy it all up" even though circumstances were clearly horrendous and un-fixable.

    There is not an ounce of remorse in Kevin’s voice or expression when he talks about what happened to Markus. He really doesn’t care at all that he lead his “friend” to his death. He didn’t give Markus a choice about going with them on the raft. Kevin decided his fate for him, and for what? Because he was butthurt about not getting to see a place that didn’t exist anyway! He didn’t leave Markus because he thought it would be better for him, he left him to make it easier on himself. He’s no better than that creep Karl. Most likely the only reason Kevin ever went back to the jungle to “search” for Markus was to make himself seem like less of the monster that he actually is. Yossi isn’t much better, as he went along with what Kevin wanted and made no effort to keep Markus with them. At that point its not an adventure, its not a game, its someone’s life. The fact that they are so damn cavalier about it is abhorrent and shameful.

    To both Kevin and Yossi's credit, they admitted (Yossi directly in his book, Jungle) that they were both naive and arrogant heading into the jungle, and humbled by it. This truly is a story that proves nature bats last. One thing Yossi mentions in his book that's glossed over here is that Marcus had severe trench foot when they split up. Marcus had tried to dry his feet and clean them the previous couple days, but it was impossible in the jungle. Both Yossi and Kevin underestimated how bad it was (as Yossi admits here), how lost they were, and assumed if Marcus just cowboy'd up, Karl would take him to a village of some sort in a few days.

    Saw the movie adaptation Jungle recently and it was just amazing and left me speechless, had to come here and see this documentary and see the actual people share the story themselves. The Amazon rainforest is truly another world- I respect it and shall avoid it. Solid advice I learned from these survival stories: if the locals/native residents say “hey, avoid this forest down this path”, take their advice. There was once a group of tourists (somewhere in southeast asia I think) that got swept away from monsoon rains/flooding because they ignored the locals warning them of the incoming rain. They too wanted an adventurous experience... it’s not worth it if it may be your last. I say that because in the movie a group of locals warned these guys to not go deep into the jungle and they didn’t listen.

  • @MrMancreatedgod

    @MrMancreatedgod

    I don't agree with avoiding. Just do research, have high level survival training and always heed locals wherever your adventures take you. No reason to avoid the beauty of the Amazon. Respect though? That's necessary in the mountains, the plains, the rain forest or the concrete jungle. Have fun out there. Be prepared, be safe.

Sometimes it's not that bad but when they have a predatiorial animal instinct.... That's a universe of its own which we can not fattom. So many people have lost their lives because of them. Karl was real. And the Indian village did and still does exist. It's the Toromonis Tribe. And they are located exactly on Karl's map where he made the "x." At that time however, no one knew the Toromonis existed, because that region was totally unexplored. Only very few people had been there, maybe 2 missionaries and a few explorers. I don't know why it was said at the end of the movie and on these documentaries that Karl had lied about the Indian village. By the time the documentaries and the movie was made the Toromonis had been discovered. The tribe was actually discovered by loggers. And Karl didn't say it would take a week to reach that Tribe. He actually stated it would be 2 weeks, and depending on the rain season coming, possibly 3 weeks. The FIRST village they came to, an open tribe, was the one that only took 4-5 days to get to.
