Corona 10 Inch Saw vs Bahco vs Silky - A Gauntlet Review
This Gauntlet video compares the Corona 10" Razor Tooth Folding Saw against the Bahco Laplander and The Silky Gomboy 210. They are all great camping saws but the Corona wins this one hands down.

Welcome back.
After a few reviews of folding saws, this seemed like the best choice. Just came today and it will fit perfectly in my survival bag. Can't wait to go test it out this summer.
I have one and it goes with me on all my trips into the woods. If you're not building a cabin and need for fire-prep, camp chores, and temporary shelter building this is a great value. A bit heavy since I pack in, but I'll pay the price as it has proved so useful and certainly not a deal breaker! It is not advertised as a "Bushcraft" specialty tool, but there is also a price for buying "bushcrafting" gear which is usually a lot more. This is a perfect example of that.
I've been using the corona going on two years now. I started with the 7 inch but quickly upgraded to the 10 inch. Love it over anything else I've tried

The Bahco is a great saw.
Used a Corona 10 for about 6 years. Hiking/Camping/Yard work/Hunting/Trail mantenance. While it wasn't as sharp as new, it still cut MORE than fine. Buddy of mine bound it up clearing a fenceline and snapped the blade. Replaced it with the little Corona. Will buy a new 10 as soon as I see one in the store. Solid saw, Great price.

3+ year update here. I now do tree work and climb. The Corona 10 is my climbing hand saw. Is it a silky? No. But close enough and I love the longer handle for 2 handed cutting. I got in a pinch and picked up a fiskars folder as an intermediate... garbage.

I love my razortooth, it is a fast cutter for sure with a handle that's comfortable and it was this video that helped me decide on it. I wanted 2 Saws to take with me it the woods, razortooth won against silky for the 10" range because of price. I ordered the silky katanaboy 500 for bigger jobs looking forward to testing it out. Thanks for the video, love your content

Do you find these remain sharp after a lot of use? I use Corona saws at work, the problem is generally that the guys stick them in dirt or cut dirty roots so they get dull really fast. I've always wondered how they would fare under normal use, since they can't be sharpened easily.

Legit question : Any thoughts on how preppers store duct tape in a bug-out-bag? The roll is too big
It all about the tooth count per inch, the push, pull, or push-and-pull cutting design of the saw teeth, the kerf tooth displacement in the cutting slice, what wood is being cut (green or dry), and what you really want to do with the folding saw. The same for the sawing range (smaller blades, smaller cutting length). Ive had my Corona 8+ years doing 66 orchard/nut trees, curved blade, and am quite satisfied. Yes the plastic handle can pinch the hand. And if you just take care of your cutters, they will last, irrespective of any other price or issues.

Eight years is pretty impressive doing out much work and
think the best saw is not the one that cuts faster, but the one that manages to cut more often before further edging is needed. So, in your opinion, which one lasts the most?

LOL Totally got me! Was wondering, about halfway through, how balanced the Coroan was!
Had a Corona saw in my shopping cart but put it back when I saw that when folded the teeth extend into the lanyard hole. In retrospect I could just grind off those teeth so I'll probably get one soon.
@SurvivalOnPurpose

+brxtmp106 I wouldn't worry too much about that. I bet a paracord lanyard would last a really long time, if not indefinitely.
Another great video and fact of the matter is this. The Corona DOES indeed cut faster than the other 2 saws. Only issue I have is that my Bahco Laplander seems more durable/rugged than my Corona. Other than that , Awesome video, thanks for sharing and have a great day from Northern Canada.

Good video. I like the idea of putting some of the cheaper choices up against the more expensive stuff. Just as this time we often find that the cheaper version will do just as well. Or as this time better. I like to buy the best quality pound for pound. But lots of younger guys starting off need videos like this to tell them not to be afraid to be frugal. The corona may not hold up over time as well as the bahco but so what if it's half the price. And all of us know we survival/bushcraft/prepper guys rarely buy just one of anything. Good job Brian.

+Traveler1226 Honestly, the only saw out of these three I have had any issues with is my Bahco. My son tried to close it without pushing the lock (he didn't know it had a release) and now the latch is broken. My point is that I am not so sure the Corona will not last as long as the Bahco.
@Traveler1226
8 жыл бұрын
+Survival On Purpose Only time will tell. Take it to your boy scout outings. If the corona will stand the abuse of 20-30 boy scouts, it will hold up to whatever I would do with it. LOL!
I'm assuming it's the extra length and curved blade geometry that give it the advantage in cutting. I doubt the teeth or steel are any better than the Silky. The added size is a con, since most of us like compact gear. I also think in some situations the curved blade could be a drawback, like if you are cutting close to the ground. The tip of the blade will nose down into the dirt and be more prone to getting hung up. I've used all three of these saws, and own two of them. They are all very good saws imo.
@SurvivalOnPurpose

+Prepared Survivalist I am sure the Silky is at least if good , if not better quality. It also costs twice as much.
Looking like the Corona 10" is the best bang for the buck. Funny how every KZreadr including a Silky saw always gives it the beans when doing the sawing but go at a leisurely pace with every other saw ;)

Very good. Thank you very much
I have one of those Corona saws & I use it at work all the time when pruning trees, it's a great saw. I use to use a Fanno professional pruning saw which wasn't a fold up, but had a scabbard. Fanno was one of the first to use the tri-edge tooth design for pruning here in the United States. I used that Fanno for about 10 years without it going dull until I lost it in the moved to Missouri.
I have a couple of these. I'd say the all work well but they all get dull. Have a bigger one that works best but it needs a new blade.

I have owned many saws over the years, have a Bahco and a Corona 10 for backpacking, AND the Bahco stays at the house most times. Versus videos loose a bit of merit unless the items compared are actually all apples. I own the 7" version of this Corona saw and it is a very good saw, in my experience it smokes the Bahco Laplander and cuts just as well as the Silky Pocketboy 170 and my standard, the Cohglans Sierra Saw 8400. The biggest disadvantage of the Corona are lack of replacement blades and the smooth spine (yea, I know you don't have to strike a ferro rod on the spine of everything, but I do like that feature!) so you can't use a ferro rod or a piece of flint/quartz to make fire-which you can with the Silky and Cohglans.

I have the Silky Gomboy 240mm Large Tooth, only been running it for a month now. So far, seems to melt wood like butter. I feel bad for all the guys I see using other folding saws expending all those calories taking twice as long to go through the material. If you like the curved handle, you might want the Silky Ultra Accel (don't get the super accel, the materials aren't as good). That Corona is a large tooth, so it'd have to go against a 270mm or so Silky in long tooth to really compare.

They are. I've watched many vids on them and a lot of guys like them. I personally like the Corona. I think what gets me most is the Silky is 40 bucks and a replacement blade is 35 haha. Really? Why not just buy a new one? Same with the other two. They each seem to serve a purpose. The Silky may cut better than the Bahco but the Bahco may fit better in a pack. We could do this all day. The price points for replacement blades is my hang up for the Silky. If I could buy one for even 20 bucks, half the price of the whole assembly, it may look more attractive... Just wonder what these companies are thinking sometimes.
