New Corona folding saw review ep. 111

“New & Improved!” How many times have we heard that promise? This time, it’s true. The updated Corona 10-inch folding saw really is better than the one it replaces in several ways while also retaining the best characteristics of the earlier model.

My only folding saw I had was a 7" one I bought from Harbor Freight when I was starting out and wasn't sure about sawing stuff. But recently, I've been seeing the Corona 10" saw online performing well and I think it may be the upgrade I'm looking for without spending too much. Thanks for the video, it helped my decision.

Thanks for watching and for commenting. I've used a bunch of pack saws over the years and none was truly bad, but this current iteration of the Corona is the best yet. Glad the vid was able to help you decide to upgrade.

I like that the blade on the newer version is covered better then on the old one, seeing those exposed teeth when it was folded always frustrated me a little. I have a bako Laplander and 2 silky saws and 2 corona saws and they all work well. I tend to use the corona more for work I’ve been through a few over the years the others are ones I keep for occasional use if I need them and have them in different vehicles or back packs. Since the corona is cheaper I don’t feel as bad beating them up as much if I have too. Good video

I have several saws, including some I got as press giveaways at trade shows. (I write for the construction market.) My Corona remains my go-to for exactly the reasons you cite. I also like the teeth protected when folded in the latest version. I'll upgrade when this one dulls, I guess. Thank you for watching the vid and for taking time to comment.

It is apparent from the data (faster second cuts) that either you're getting stronger or sawing sharpens the saws.

One of those is clearly the inescapable conclusion, or perhaps both factors are at play. More research is needed. I'll be seeking funding.

Hey . Amazon prices go up and down. Currently I bought one for around $25 . Still in the pack in my car trunk. Thanks for the video! Happy I have a back up, I don’t use my silky big boy 240mm Straight saw, I seen so many people break them because of the harder temper of the steel. I paid $75 for it and don’t want to see broken. Corona I’ll buy a ton of though. All round great camping saw! 😊

You're right. Amazon prices fluctuate, for sure. Not that I'm advocating timing the purchase. A few dollars either way is fractions of a penny per use over the service life of the saw. Like you I've used other saws but I keep coming back to Corona, especially with the improvements. Thanks for watching and for commenting!

Well, this is a good comparison of a new sharp saw vs. an old duller saw. I would have liked to have seen the same comparison with your new old saw and the new new saw! If you get my thought. I just got new your old saw, and I really like the textured black grip surface, the new one you have does not have that. Perhaps you could plastidip the handle to reproduce that. Just a thought, since you did not mention that feature a a negative on your new saw.

My objective was not a cutting comparison but to illustrate the benefits of replacing an older saw with a new one of slightly different design, pointing out the similarities and differences. I like your Plasti Dip suggestion. I find the handle on the new saw perfectly useful but Plasti Dip could make it even better. For those considering this step, note that Plasti Dip can be brushed on; you don't have to dip the object and brushing may be the better application method here. Thanks for watching the video, Mike, and for taking time to comment and offer suggestions.

Would you please tell me the Model number for the new saw ? I tossed my totally inferior and overpriced Silky saw in a camp fire . Your testing methods are brilliant. Thanks for your video and all the best in all future endeavors.

@@rudeman1914 the catalog has been updated. If you do a search using the model number I cite (RS7265D) you'll find last year's model...they're still available and with the textured handle. The RS16150 is the current model.
