Cops Crush Gaza Encampment At UPenn - Where Are Free Speech Warriors Now?

After cops crush a peaceful encampment protesting over Israel's genocide in Gaza at the University of Pennsylvania, I talk to Eliana Atienza, one of the student leaders, and Dr. Dagmawi Woubshet, member of the Faculty for Justice in Palestine group.

If you do not own the land, you have no right to claim it. Any court of law will tell you that. Ask the Palestinians to show you their title to the land. They do not have title to the land. They just squatted on it back in 1947 and 1948.

That is not true. 1) There is a genocide there now, according to many of the same voices. I rarely hear much about it; 2) They murdered 10s of millions of people in their recent history, and nobody says much about it. Particularly their fellow travelers on the left. The US has killed, millions of people in the Middle East and Afghanistan, and I don't hear a lot of protest about that history. The reality is the opposite. You can kill millions of people and people like the Clintons and Bidens will still court you for your money.

Thank you for covering this. I walked by the encampment daily and saw the events going on there. It was more tranquil, focused, and educational than I could have imagined. They remained on message and ignored counterprotesters, never provoking anyone. They had a library, they had discussions, educational film screenings, speeches. It was more “learning” than I’d ever seen in a college campus. It had a beautiful feeling. And sure they were practicing free speech, but it was more than that: they were articulating a political message in a way that should make a scholarly institution proud, practicing writing and speaking and critical thinking. I also directly received communications from Penn administration that was so inaccurate, disingenuous, and painted such a distorted image of what the camp was like. It was disgusting. I suppose I was naive to assume that the university’s first priority would be intellectualism and education, two things that defined the encampment
