Iv been a Irish tin whistler for like 5 years now :) and don't worry about speed/style your playing the song in because most of the time Irish music was passed down orally and without any notation so everyone has their different styles of playing songs, so don't put yourself down for not playing it at speed or without ornaments 💚keep doing what your doing, I'm glad to see ppl learning this class instrument 🇮🇪

she is just lovely isn't she. and yes you are right and the speed merchants out there i liked her slow version the best often i think the speed is actually ruining the songs :) just my two cents anyhow

THANK. YOU. As a beginner whistle player, I don't WANT the ornaments in there. I need to know what notes to play before I get fancy with it, and I'll add the ornaments that I like when I see fit. Having an example to follow that doesn't muck around with that sort of thing straight away is so helpful!

The slower, articulate, version is beautiful. It has an emotional component missing when the tune is played in a rush. Music, like life, should not be hurried through. It all ends soon enough.

Oh this. This is one of those skill walls. Once you climb it, you're able to do lots of other cool stuff just because of what you had to learn to play the song in the first place.

Thank you, Thank you! Nice and slow (ish) for us newbies (or oldbie learner as the case may be). In the famous words of the band master in the movie Brassed Off... " and she calls that wobbly?". That was really nice! As a bagpiper, I often find that too much emphasis is placed on speed and ornaments in tunes and not enough on the feeling , to the detriment of the tune. As my old tutor used to say " You can play a tune without embellishments; it's still a tune, but you cannae do it the other way around"

If this is your worst playing, the your a true pro! Music is meant to be played in any style any tempo any way you like. Your amazing and i loved listening to you play this song. I know this was years ago but still, dont beat yourself up just because you cant play a song the same way as someone else. Make it yours! Play it the way you can play it, and it will always be perfect!

The great thing about folk music i learnt and especially irish folk music is that you really can make it your own. All the great whistle players and fiddle players add their own personality to the music through a variety of ornamentation. Personally I thought your version was great. Keep playing with it and find an arrangement you like.

I am new to the tin whistle, and perhaps I am a musical brute and not knowledgeable about how these songs should be played, but I think you play well and your renditions are pleasing to hear. You also do a good job explaining things in an easy to learn manner and provide helpful tips such as adjusting playback speed and the tabs are extremely helpful. Since you are putting yourself on the net for public viewing, please don't let criticism get to you too much. Take what you can from them and leave the rest behind. I was happy to hear that you started out just like us, perusing youtube tutorials. It gives me hope that one day I can play well. Cheers

But when the lock down kicked in I thought I would have a go with the whistle and some traditional tunes and now I really like it thanks to yourself and one or two other with these great tutorials, so thank you

Woah, you have to real back that negativity. You did great from what I could tell and I rather enjoyed it. If anything, I think you should tackle more Irish music if you feel like it's your weak area. You've got the talent and the passion to master the instrument and all it's abilities so please don't get yourself down over one song.

Aho Stephanie. Please realize that you do NOT suck. You simply aren't where you would like to be in regards to certain things. You may be stressing out over your promise to all of us to post two videos a week because you would like the content quality to be a little better and there just aren't enough hours in the day. Trust me, in time you are going to become far better than you are now, and by the way right now you are way better than a good percentage of us. I do not want to see you burn out and fade away like so many do. If you need more breathing room I think I would rather see a little less of you than to not see you at all. Or maybe your second video doesn't need to be a song post. Maybe some history and folklore about the origin of the whistle. The Native American Flute has a couple of stories about it's origin. I would like to modify an earlier request for you to do some improv. I still would like you to do the improv but I don't want you to record it or post it. Please take some time by yourself to empty your thoughts and truly play your heart spirit with your favorite whistle outside in a secluded place. No particular style. Just play your own hearts spirit. This will strengthen you and help you to what us N.A.F. people call, center your medicine wheel. God bless you Stephanie. Toksa Akhe Mitakuye

Glad you enjoyed it. I'm on holiday at the moment so I'm missing next Tuesday's video (still posting this Friday though). Luckily I'm back in time for the following Friday too!

PLEASE DO 'ROLLING WAVES'. I'm actually playing all these on the recorder, changing the fingering, but your videos are some of the best I've come across to help me learn. Thank you.
