Tin Whistle Lesson - Ornaments: When, Where, & Why (Cooley's Reel)
Музыка
I often get asked "how do you know where to put the ornaments in a tune?" This is a tough one to answer because there really aren't any hard and fast rules about ornamentation as so much of it is down to personal style.
But to get you started, I've come up with 5 tricks that can be applied to (nearly) every tune to get some ornaments added at the right spots.

Mate this is spot on, exactly the guidance I needed. Thank you
Thank you, Sean. I appreciate you showing us some opportunities where ornaments could be used.
My prayers have been answered! Thank you so much for this! :)

Learning and hanging onto every word, thankyou.
Thank you ! 😊soooooo helpful
So helpful!
Thanks you have helped me in my whistle playing..
Those techniques are way beyond my ability it is a big challenge undoing the knots in my hands and I really actually thought that no one can play so well. I am overwhelmed at what I can do. I will practice right now and spill my black two tunes on the street serve it with my hickups.
Wow...keep thinking you've sped up the film but there's no munchkin voice so you really are that fast - respect!

Hahaha - cheers! Just lots of practice and time spent in pubs. :)
A better word for rule might be guidelines 😉
If I heard this without video, I'd think it was Obama If I watched this without audio, I'd think it was a guy talking about sports

Thanks a bunch - that's a great tune, I'll get it on my list!
Would you spell out the notes in the triplets? Thanks.
Reelys cool
Could you do a tutorial of Mouse in the Kitchen on the tin whistle in D? It's a traditional tune, and a nice catchy one.

That is a lovely tune though it's not traditional, it was written by Colin Farrell who's currently with Lunasa. I don't play it well enough to teach it though I'll put it on my list and see if I can get to playing it properly!

Thanks a tutorial would be very helpful . I’m playing in a session at the end of the month with some musicians I’ve only met a couple of times and they play the tune. I’ve had a good look about for it on YT but no luck.
I am a cellist and aspiring Irish Trad musician who is currently learning to play Irish flute and bodhran, and I'm planning to learn Irish whistle too. Which whistle would you recommend I buy for my first beginner whistle?

I like the Sweetone as a starter, but if you think you'll be remotely serious about it it's really worth it to dive in with something a bit more reliable. You can get a professional instrument for between $75-$150 and that's all you need to spend for it. That way you know that when something goes wrong it's your fault and not the whistle's which is a good problem to have, because you can fix that!
What whistle are you playing?

I play whistles made by a fellow named Gary Humphrey.

@@whistletutor Cool, good price and I like the sound (although I try not to be influenced too much by your great playing skills :D ) ! I am thinking about buying a (high D) Burke. By the way: What is the (red or white) tape on whistles thought for? (I saw you put it on the whistle in your review of the Humphrey whistle.)
I'm hearing things I could practice, but I'd need to go somewhere else to actually learn it. The video seems to only show us all the cool stuff he knows; he's certainly not trying to teach at this speed.
Why can't you slow down!!!!!

Hahah - yeah, some of these older ones I tend to blitz through. Hopefully they've been better lately!

Adjust playback speed to 0.25x
It's a pity you don't take things a bit more slowly.. you are going too fast and too much talking.

Agreed! Trying to do better at that in newer videos :)

Sorry to be critical... maybe splitting the info into 2 videos rather than trying to do it all in one hit?
