    Been seeing a lot of 5 star islands & wow they’re super overwhelming. My island theme is more neighborly. Everyone’s houses is on the main island right now. So pretty much everything else is empty. Have no idea what to do now as I don’t want to do to much crazy terraforming, or none the less don’t even really know how to do it. Can you post a video of terraforming for beginners, or simple terraforming tips and tricks?

    I'm going for it, I design and build houses in real life so I kinda go against the grain in AC to escape from my day job. The one upside of a natural environment is asymmetry, so in theory you can use a variety of different island furnishings, where as in a suburb you would want to match for a consistent aesthetic...probably easier said than done :D edit: just did my first island eval and got a 3 star, I'd say about 3/4 I've still yet to even get around to! I was expecting a 1 star at the stage I'm at for sure!

  • @jesseconlon5568

    @jesseconlon5568

    The things you will want to plan for at the beginning that become costly to fix later in the game would definitely be building placement and ramp or bridge placement. If you want to make a village later in the game you want to think about where the houses will go from the beginning. Also keep in mind you will have 2 stores and 1 extra establishment: Nook's Cranny and the Able Sisters, and the Museum. If you want them as part of the village or want to make a shopping or entertainment district later in the game after unlocking the island designer tools, plan for that when you set them up as well. One thing I wish I did in the beginning was lay out the houses properly and it costs 50,000 to move one house later in the game (and you can only move one per day). Also think about accessibility. Ramps and bridges are costly so if you have ideas for how you want paths to go around your town, plan that out first so you can create the bridges and ramps to line up with those later. These cost from 90,000 to 300,000 so be very careful with placement and planning if you don't want to have to redo these later (they also only allow one built per day OR one removed per day). After that pretty much everything else is substantially easier to move around later.

    I have a neat way to do the stepping stone thing! Okay so you might already know that you can put down custom patterns with at least 1 transparent pixel over top of one of the other path styles(dirt/stone/etc.), and it'll keep the natural looking edge. BUT alternating the dirt path (or literally any path besides dark dirt) and dark dirt path, and covering them with the exact same custom patterns actually makes the custom pattern's pallet look darker when its on the dark dirt. You can make neat, compact little stepping stones or accents that use the same custom pattern, but have dark and light variants. Your tips are great and have helped inspire me, so I hope this helps someone else.

    questions: 1) How do you organize neighborhoods? is it better to spread them out, or one big dedicated area? 2) kind of a weird one, but how to better organize elevated areas that are at the bottom of the map? usually people put elevated areas near the back of the map, but I kind of wanted to make some high cliffs with waterfalls that have villager houses, or shops on. The problem is, that the cliffs kind of block the camera when you go further up the map to build stuff

    For the town tune, if you have even a smidge of knowledge in reading music, you can take almost any song and turn it into a tune. If not, there are tons available via twitter, tumblr, pinterest, youtube, etc.

    Maybe you should try making some paths. Start by making a path from the Airport to the Resident Services building. You could use each side of the Resident Services floor to each go to different parts of your island. Making paths really did made the game fun, at least for me.

    I did something similar to the farmers market, except I made it into a flea market! You can really go crazy with this idea, and it’s actually super useful if you have extra items lying around. Just put a few stalls, add a sign saying whatever market, and add any items you want! I added a few clothing pieces, a tricycle, the cooler from the fishing tournament and some fruit!! I also created a checkered pattern for the ground using one pattern in a solid colour and another in a different colour. Then I formed them into a checkered pattern. I think it looks really cool, and hopefully it inspires someone to decorate their island :)
