Consistently Finding Hunting Success, Mike's Complete River Farm Breakdown (Part 1) #hunting #deer
On this week's episode, we kick things off with Josh Sparks who is fresh off of a successful Nebraska turkey hunt with intern Lewis Miller and former intern Ethan Stubbs. Josh brings us up to speed on the Chasing Red series, the all new apparel on the Midwest Whitetail website, and finally a big surprise in the "Droptine" story. We then catch up with Mike Reed who takes through a complete breakdown on how the River Farm has changed over the years from a land management and deer hunting perspective. Mike is constantly game planning and attempting to make his farm effective no matter the time of year, and is a big part in his consistent success over the years. This story covers 7 years on how the farm has changed, how the deer movement patterns have evolved, and how Mike goes about bow hunting the entire north section of the farm. This will be a two part series with the second episode featuring a breakdown of the southern portion of the River Farm that Mike acquired in 2020. We hope there are a few things that you can learn from Mike and apply on your own hunting property, and as always, we greatly appreciate the support every week!

I don't mean to be a pain in the butt, but in the future could you guys try to keep the imaging North -south orientated please? It's confusing when your referring to a "southeast corner" but it appears like a southwest corner because West is actually at the top of the screen opposed to North always being at the top. I know I'm knit picking and I apologize. You guys do a phenomenal job and I'm a huge fan!!

It's crazy how productive this farm has been since the beginning. Especially when you consider the limitations on what work can be done due to the programs. Goes to show it's not always how much you do, it's doing it right that pays off. Looking forward to part 2! PS...I have enough points draw for a "cull" hunt Mike!! 😂😂

Nice breakdown of the farm Mike. I look forward to seeing the other 300 acres. I think you mentioned Moss was at the top of the list this year. Looking forward to seeing who the other starting lineup will be after having an exceptional year in 23-24

Consistently Finding Hunting Success = Move to Iowa (anywhere in IA) and buy a farm. Any average hunter with some time will get chances every year at 150"+ deer. It's not about the hunters / strategy, it's ONLY about the location. Send these IA guys to other states and they will struggle to kill big deer. It's why the IA guys only hunt Iowa. Went to IA in 2009, hunting public land, never been there before, 2nd day had a giant 165" 10-point with split brows at 25 yards. It ain't that hard when you are in whitetail heaven. Buy your pref points and go. It's worth it, even if you only have public land to hunt. Zone 5 is amazing, around Centerville.
