Wow this is amazing. I loved the way the smoke was black for 5 seconds then switched to white.

As a Catholic myself, I've always known nobody can put on a show like Rome. Ever. This was another awesome moment in the life of the most organized and the only Apostolic Church on Earth. Even a non Catholic friend of mine said when this happened, "Well, I will tell you that the Catholics do this well." Amen. God Bless. Cars.

Because our Church is very systematical. Unlike the protestants, anybody could be the shepherd of its flocks. Anyone could acknowledge themselves as a pastor or even prophets.

I was there and I assure you that the emotion was very very much!!!

I was a bit ill that day, When I awoke, a little after 7 o'clock, I put on the radio, the first thing I heard was a journalist yelling loudly: White smoke, white smoke... What an evening remember. Yes, Annuntio vobis gaudium magnum, thill this day!!

I remember getting on my school bus and looking up "new pope 2013" on my phone, and there was a video of white smoke posted 10 minutes before.

I always replay this video and it gives me goosebumps.

lol so do I. Except I didn't really see it. I was home sick from school watching the news for 2 hours. Nothing had happened with the papal election so I switched to another channel for literally 10 seconds at most. Come back, white smoke all over

seeing the smoke transforms from black to white gives me chills.. and the sound of the bells too..

How beautiful, to hear all those people cheer like that.... amazing moment.

its good to see a brother of the faith defending his holiness in such hard times.

Matthew 16:18 "Peter, you are the rock upon which I found my church." Jesus said this to Peter, and he went on to found the Catholic church. John 21:7 is when Jesus told Saint Peter to "feed his sheep" with sheep referencing us.

I had to explain to a co-worker who aped what they were saying on CNN because the Church paid billions to the victims of molestation. It is a large bureaucracy and these things are very hard to control. We haven't heard whether the Penn State Sandusky victims have been compensated, and they haven't closed Penn State, yet they knew about Sandusky 10 years ago and did nothing. It is a patten of abusers: they go where they can have access to their victims and an alibi. Are all coaches abusers?

Because they are simply works of magnificent art intended to inspire us. They are not worshiped. They are not idols. They are not substitutes for anything. Imagine living in the time period when they were first created. Some people had never laid their eyes upon anything remotely beautiful as these images you bash. It helped give them hope and light in a world that was, and still is, quite dark.

Yeah, have you been to the Vatican? I have. It is a luxury beyond belief. They dress in gold lined cloth, their altars are made of priceless gems, their floors and walls are made from the finest marble, the walls are lined with priceless paintings and jewels....yeah, they are really concerned about the poor. That is correct more or less. The Pope is supposed to be the symbol of Christ, thus the title Vicar of Christ. Peter was chosen by Jesus to lead his church, thus he is considered the first pope. Also with what you said about the popes being human and having their own faults, that is true for everyone one of them, even the saints. Francis I, seems like a man with much humility, a trait I find favorable.

asteRISKY There’s always a bit of “just smoke”. It’s the burning of the conclave ballots. Once aflame, they add something to it to makes sure it’s black (no election) or white (habemus papam) and not some wishy-washy grey smoke to leave everyone wondering.
