In this video, we test some of the most commonly available commercial loads for the 7.62x54r. The round itself has made tremendous leaps in popularity, mainly due to the fact that the M91/30 is such a cheap and available rifle in surplus form. One reason the round has taken off well too is that it is still in service in the Military so surplus stores are continuing to replenish. It has the distinction of being the long serving military cartridge in the world, being in service since 1891.
We will shoot another test in a future video showcasing some of the most common military surplus ammunition. We thought that a test of commercial ammo would be a prudent thing given that most of it sells for a considerable premium over most surplus offerings. On the plus side, much of the brass cased commercial ammo is boxer primed and reloadable.
Even despite the seemingly cheap cost of surplus ammo, some of us still like to experiment with handloads in the Mosin. I am one of those people and will share some of my pet loads in a future video.

FOR THOSE LOOKING FOR THE STOCK: This is a Richards Microfit Tack Driver stock.
This channel has come a looong way! The audio and video clarity is the best on KZread. The editing is top notch as well. Love all the videos!
Awesome job. I'd be proud of the work you guys did on it. I hope your customer appreciates the rifle...I know I'd be damn happy to have one like that!
Thanks for this review. I've been curious about the commercial loads available, particularly since I'd prefer to reload as well. As always, thanks again and keep up the great reviews and various videos!
IV8888 - Thanks for putting this video together. Amazing job on the sporter and it shows both in good looks and accuracy. Appreciate all your efforts. Keep em comin'
This is one of my favorite videos. Love those tiny groups you got with the S&B. Out of a Mosin id say thats the best I've seen one shoot.
Great vid Eric. Thanks for taking the time. I've been getting tired of having to clean my Mosin within an hour of shooting surplus ammo. This really helps me narrow the field of non-corrosive ammo to look for. I've got a couple boxes of 180 grain Winchester white box 7.62x54R soft points that I haven't fired yet. I think I'll try upload a grouping session with them when I get the chance.
LOVE these types of vids Eric! Thanks!
Solid and provable great information thanks again guys and nice shooting
I just love it when the inexpensive stuff performs great in my rifles ^^ Sellier & Bellot 180grs soft point for my .308 Weatherby Vanguard S2, is a sub MOA load. Great stuff! It's my go to deer hunting ammo.
The Winchester 180gr soft points have done very well for my Mosin as well as the PPU 182gr fmj.
Awesome video, I have been LOving your channel lately! More mosins and their variants would be highly appreciated, cant wait for the surplus ammo accuracy vid!
yall do great work on these videos
2:36 trying to load an empty shell :D
My bubba 19.5" mosin loves Tulammo of all things. I love it even more for that. lol
Very cool setup on that Mosin and great test.
Good video. I like the work yall did on that rifle too.
I have found PPU to be the best value for money when it comes to non corrosive ammo for the Mosin.

Wow, you are truly a great shot. I am impressed. Great video!
Wow, that action is smooth as a baby's behind. I have to manhandle my Mosin's bolt when I cycle rounds in and out of it.
@DustySquitoNM

Fully disassembling the bolt revealed that mine had some extra cosmoline packed away in between the parts of the bolt. Once I cleaned that out, scrubbed, and oiled everything again, my action got a lot smoother. Still, nothing as smooth as that beast.

What a beautiful rig. You have convinced me to buy another mosin. I am keeping one original, and going to make one like this. I am so impressed by the smoothness of that bolt.

May all the ghosts of the Red Army descend upon you every night for what you did to the poor Mosin. RIP comrade Mosin

I have a mosin nagant that is over 100 years old accurate to 300 yards so far...the shooting range onky goes out to 300 yards, and she's consistantly hitting steel plates
That's the best Mosin I've seen! How about a video on how this gun was customized?
That was just simply awesome that you were hitting a target out at 440 yards with a Mosin Nagant, just awesome. Thank you for making this video, please make more Mosin videos and have a nice day 👍.
Awesome build, bought 91/30 for wife but she only wanted LimbSaver recoil reducer and BrassStacker rail for scout scope. She likes older look of this hex receiver type Mosin built in '33 at Tula as it is save foe the scope. We usually like 5 round groups to truly ring out accuracy potential of any rifle/ammo combo. Your videos are well made and to the point with info people that like guns are looking for. Good job.
Eric. Where can I get that "party of five" shirt?
Wait!? So your telling me there is a Mosin under all that camo??
what a great video, thanks a lot. i like them to be a little longer so this was a lot of fun.
Thanks for this, Eric. Lotta good info here.

@avjeeper7006

If you have to beat the bolt, the receiver probably needs to be shimmed. Sometimes the magazine is recessed to high into the stock. The top of the magazine is impacting the bottom of the bolt causing interference. Loosen the screws half a turn and then cycle the bolt, see if it loosens up a bit. If not try a full turn on the screws.
I would be interested to know what an off the shelf Mosin would do with the same loads, how much of the accuracy can be attributed to the work you dud, and what the price tag would be for the work.

I have a 90% "as received" (I Refinished the stock and slightly reduced the diameter of the stock where you grip it behind trigger) I do not know much about it, But it is a Hex 1914 marked receiver Mosin-Nagant the long barrel, M91 model, My sights are marked Arshins on one side and Meters on the other...My handloads which are Sierra 180 Grain Prohunter (Which are .311 for .303 loaded with Accurate 2700) will smack the 440 gong at 440, 19 out of 20 shots and I am shooting with open sights, at a red painted gong! (as for the off the shelf S&B loads, my first impression reaction would be YES, that is what I used to buy, and now reloading those cases)
fantastic video!
Nice video, love the 7.62x54r. Thanks Eric. Looking forward to the surplus test
I absolutely love that stock!! Please direct me in the direction that I can get one?! Thnx!! I love the videos!!

It is a tuner, you can tune by sliding it up and down the barrel, imagine strumming a guitar and sliding your finger up the neck of the guitar. You will change the harmonics.
@ianjacques3226
6 жыл бұрын
Philip Alpers Trent Wilson hustler0118 isaac Alan Hodgkinson it has a few possible/probable independent/correlated effects: Damping harmonics, tuning harmonic resonance to a different shape or speed of successive waves, tricking the barrel into thinking it is either more rigid or more compliant at a certain point, muffling the secondary shockwave that returns back to the receiver after the supersonic first wave exits, cushioning the rattle associated with the blast from the muzzle and a host of other dynamic and sound/shock effects. This product is similar to a muffler as well as bushings, shocks and the harmonic balancer on most every vehicle. I understand the theories due to studying vehicle dynamics and component force/energy transfer relations.

Is this on a mosin? If so you make that gun with it stock trigger group have a hair trigger with adjusting the nut the by the trigger. I know because I've done two of them. Just don't loosen the too far out. Only draw back is your bolt will fall out with out pressing on the trigger.
Great video, and a job well done on the Mosin.

Fantastic. My 91/30 shot about 4" groups. Corked the barrel, polished the trigger contact points and worked up a hand load using Barnes tsx 150s and brought it down to just over an inch. Killed the biggest blacktail of my life with it that fall. Very rewarding project!
