Seller & bellott makes match grade brass cased 7.62x54R. Steel cased rimmed cartridges are always going to do worse than brass because they headspace on the rim.

9-Hole Reviews did a video on how bad the accuracy and consistency PSL suffers from. Barrel is too long and bad harmonics. It works as a slow shooting weapon. The minute it heats up it throws rounds everywhere

I watched that video and found it interesting. How ever I’ve watched people firing these for an hour even rapid firing pull off tight grouping even after the barrel was hot. Obviously it’s not designed to be a 800 yard sniper riffle but it’s record in combat and things I’ve personally witnessed have proven to me that it’s a very affective battle riffle.

A good looking rifle doesn't necessarily mean an accurate rifle. I have seen tests on this cartridge that grouped in a dime, others weren't as good. 9 Hole Reviews shot a Mosin Nagant to 500 yards with the 7.62x54 and did quite well. A very good rifle built in the 1930's. Another video from Shoot Show was hitting target at 1100 yards (1 km ). So don't be the least bit disappointed with your shooting WTW, we know your abilities. Great looking rifle, and another great video. Stay safe and happy shooting.

Silver tip is mild steel core light ball ammo 148 grain bullet. The PSL is designed for 148 grain ammo. The 208 grain is too heavy a bullet and is hard on the action. S&B, and PPU may have a match style loading.

My personal rifle seems to like light ball ammo from the 1960’s and 1970’s. I had a can from the 90’s a few years ago and I ended up getting about the same results we saw here today. The older ammo ran better and held tighter groups. That’s my personal experience with my rifle. I am by no means an expert.

It was never meant to be a precision rifle. It may look similar to a druginov sniper rifle but the psl was meant to fling 7.62x54r in a general area to keep heads down. It’s more of a designated marksman rifle than anything

If you reload, the Cutting Edge .311 cal 130 gr ESP Raptor is as good as it gets. It even outshoots my best smk loads and to top it off, it's on game performance can't be beat. I have shot 100 yard groups with my mosin sporter with all the holes touching. RL17 powder is what I use. If it won't shoot those well, it won't shoot anything. Same goes for my buddy's budget mil spec AR. Most everything it shoots is about 2 moa except for the Raptors which will literally stack all day through one big hole.

The PSL is not a modern rifle. It is a DMR. I seem to group a bit better with brass and hand loads, but it isn’t a sub MOA with those. I picked mine up to see what our guys were up against in Asia Minor and maybe in the sand box area. It’s a fun shooter.

AK operator's Union got sub MOA with this gun, but I believe he had to change to an adjustable gas piston to allow him to shoot heavier grain boolits without risk damaging his rear trunion, I believe he was using Sellier and Bellot 174 grain HPBT ammo. Plus as others mentioned before you need to let the barrel cooldown longer between shots due to the stringing effect. So the gun seems to be capable with the right ammo and a little modifications.

If I want to scrub guns from top to bottom I will go back to black power .

@@isaachany2461 As I said before, I’m no expert. Just giving my personal experience. I know silver tip is steel core (I assume that steel core is meant to be some level of armor defeating bullet) I have shot 1/2” mild steel at 100yds with them and it zips right through. Probably not going to do much damage to hardened steel, but again I’m no expert. I do love the look and feel of my PSL (poor man’s dragunov) and it’s a hell of a good conversation starter when folks see it at the range. Everyone says “oh man you have a sniper rifle!” But I always make sure to tell them it’s certainly not sniper grade. It’s meant to be a DMR.

Recently I came to the realization to tighten the optic fasting nut one “click” tighter, even though I perceived no play before. I almost had to tap the optic onto the rail with a rubber mallet. Now along with my hand loads my PSL does 1.3 inch groups. It’s like I have a new rifle.

Shooting groups, keep time between shots at least 1 min apart. The silver tip is AP. It is also corrosive primed. My rifle shoots 3 MOA with Silver Tips. If you handload, pull the 154gr soft points out of the Wolf 7.62X39. You will be amazed at performance on game and accuracy. No one makes the 154gr SP in the 7.62 X 54.

When your iron sight groups are better than your scoped groups, you have scope problems - period. What kind? That's where some detective work is required. Make sure the tube isn't slipping inside the rings. If not certain, I'd dismount the scope from the rings and add a slight dusting of rosin to the rings. Of course, this after double checking all screws first. Second, I'd suspect that the scope and mount assembly haven't "settled in". Whenever you have frame/side mounted rings, regardless of how "tight" things are, that particular mounting location requires a "settling in" period of time. The Dragunov (whoever made it) was designed for long range precision. You, therefore, have some work to do, because the rifle is capable at its core.

Hey buddy do not get disappointed with your PSL Accuracy issue. you will probably need to add at least a one-inch extinction but pad to get the buttstock correct for length of your arms. Also make a higher cheek rest to be steadier and in same exact position every time you fire. So important to be aligned exactly the same for each round with the factory optics. My cheek well is probably 1.5 inches higher to get my face very steady into buttstock. You can make something up that attaches in a improvised manner without taking away from the original rifle. Something that can be taken off and on very easy. I had the same luck as you and after making the improvements my rifle has so much more accuracy its incredible. Please don't give up, once you dial it in you should be impressed. Also, hand loads will make a huge difference. Signed PSL Lover

I scoped mine with a bad ace optic mount and put a Boyds stock on it and bent bolt. It's very accurate with 200 grain ammo and Winchester white box, also with yugo surplus. Took forever to tweak out my long barrel Mosin. But is very accurate. Scope maybe no good. Stick to iron to start.

Not sure how you always shoot so well. Every time I try for precision my heartbeat in my rest cheek moves the crosshairs way too much. How do you eliminate that?

These are not supposed to be Olympic target match rifles, they are designed to suppress the enemy beyond the standard range of an ak, but by default in order to pass through trials they must be able to hit a soldier sized target at these distances, its not a moa rifle, it is a mom rifle, which means minute of man lol. It's a force multiplier not a sniper rifle, I can be used as one but it's not what it is designed for. I put a rear sight rail on the rear sight base and threw a cheap red dot on mine, I use it more like a battle rifle where I shoot 50-300 yards of the shoulder and leave the long range one and done shooting to my mosin with a 7 power scoutscope

Remember two things. 1) this is not a sniper rifle (and for some reason is better at longer ranges 🤷‍♂️ idk why) 2) almost all surplus ammo is Soviet machinegun ammo. It is not designed for our American standards of accuracy

Try it without the lead sled or whatever you are using, use bags instead. Just a thought brother👍. Should see better results as long as you do your job. At least that’s been my results, of course everything is different though.

Are there any good commercial defense loads in this caliber or do we need to hand load for this? Can you get good accuracy with 123-125 grain bullets?

I had the same rifle at one time with the same results. I expected it to do so much better for what it's supposed to be. I just got rid of it.
