I come from the year 2021 where 54R is a rare bird... I got 60 Unused Norma cases and never reloaded before so here we go. Thankyou for the help.

Raised the volume, and everytime you went 'PPPFTHH!!', my cats jumped and scurried.

For hunters. I wouldn't shoot any deer with those bullets if you want your meat. Amax is made for paper shooting at long range. On animals and milk jugs it behaves more like a ballistic tip varmint round. Rapid, violent, explosive expansion. If you hit any meat you want to keep, it will be burger mixed with lead. 168 grain amax. 3.0 COAL (can't go any shorter because it's a compressed load) 45.7 grains of 4064 (35 years old) from the hornady 3rd edition load manual from the 70s or 80s.

I went with IMR4350 for my powder. I have a old Lyman reloading manual that said it was their accuracy load. I went with 150 grain Speer bullets. Their box says 303 British. They are .311 diameter. I picked up a mosin that was sold by a armory out of the Ukranine. They installed a AK side rail and threaded the barrel. I found a low profile ak side mount. Took off the flash hider and installed a muzzle break. Installed a Barra Hero 5-25X50 rifle scope with EGW low height scope rings. Took it to the range. Was shooting it. When a gentleman approached me. And said can I take a picture of your load data. I asked why? He said I collect Mosins. In fact I own twelve. And none shoot as accurate as yours. 😊

Not everyone has a 91/30, some of us have M44s LOL. I got the Lee Classic Loader to neck size and load. The Hornaday manual is indeed awesome. I got a box each of PPU, S&B, and Winchester ammo to see how they run. First batch was way smooth compared to steel case, but still having problems with case mouth diameter and bullets. 308's slip into the case so I moved to Hornady .3105 174gr FMJ wc to see how it goes.this is very helpful, thanks for the video.

The lee x39 die set has both expanders. Probably safe to say that if you have a mosin you probly have something in 7.62x39.

You can also (very carefully) visually inspect the length of your cartridge by comparing to a factory load...

Looking back at this video, Trust me, you can't load these rifles hot enough to hurt them Unless your stock is nice and roomy on the action... Still the most fun rifle ever Best gallery load is 13 grains of red dot stuffed on top of anything you like, preferably anything sub 182gr, Better fun is to hand your buddy a mosin full of gallery loads and one full power match load.

I watch all you videos. one advise...before you make video, you can make a list of main point then go through those points briefly, which make you video much more enjoyable. I am not saying your video is bad. It just too dry and too long. I believe that will give you videos way more views and thumbs, because i believe your video is most detailed Mosin reloading tutorial so far.

The primer pocket reamers are helpful for getting rid of military crimps on some brass, especially 5.56/.223 from some manufacturers.

My load for 54r in my Hungarin M44 shoots about a minute and half at 100. 150gr Pro Hunter ontop of 46.5gr of IMR 4895 in PPU cases. Pretty darn happy with it.

My Russian M-44 shoots about… well, I might could hit the barn if I was inside it.

As far as bore diameter, my American made Mosin has a 308 bore. It will really kick with the larger surplus cartridges!

The rcbs 29001 set comes with both expanders. No Lee factory crimp of course, so it's a 2-die set.

About needing a "big boy press", I load (full length resize) 7.62x54R and .30-06 with a Lee Hand Press. If you are reasonably fit then its just a matter of finding favorable body positioning to apply enough leverage. Any bench mounted press should be more than enough if it can load standard length cartridges.

I have a vepr54 and I want to get some monstrous velocity out of some medium weight ammo.

Got an o pap today. It is absolutely nicer than any other AK's I have ever seen. Even my vepr

Seems to be a team with me commenting on your old videos but I have a 1918 dated M91 that the bore slugs .309 When loading for a mosin check your bore.

I have a new barrel on my mosin with a .303 bore 1-10 twist. Is it safe to shoot surplus? Silver Bear 203 grain? Winchester?

I shot that same name brand ammo through my Swiss k31 of course the 7.5x55 bullet. Today I just ordered another brand to try because the mouth of the cases where bent from shooting them I'm hoping it's the ammo and not the gun. I just got my gun and I'm not familiar with it yet.

+Billy Nix My K31 does the same thing if I try to run the gun at full speed and work the bolt hard and fast. It also slings brass all over god's creation. A resizing die will straighten them out no problem. I try to be much easier with the bolt now to prevent it, though.

Heard you mention your Garand. Where did you get it and how much did it cost? I'd like to get one just for fun shooting.

If you just got a random 91/30....how do you tell what size bullet (.308 or .311) it takes?

No one answered you so, what you do is slug the bore with a soft lead ball or any soft slug of lead that's lubed with grease. You tamp that into your bore with a wooden dowel until it comes out the breach end and measure the fattest part of the slug with your calipers. If your reading is .311, you'll use a .312 jacketed bullet or a .313 cast bullet, for example. I use a 200 grain .314 cast bullet for both my Mosin and my 1918 SMLE.

I want to invest in reloading. what would you consider purchising for starting for the first time ? my main cailbers will range from 9mm and 7.62x54 i dont want too cheap...... but not to pircy either lol. also.... if you fire corrosive ammo can your reuse those casinings ? thank you

The simple answer is to buy the small investment first. (The reloading manuals) That way you learn well before making the bigger purchases.

What edition of the Hornady manual were you using in this vid? I ordered the ninth edition and heard that it does not use .308 diameter bullets as an example for 7.62x54r reloads - it allegedly only a uses .311 -.312 . Do you know if that's true? If so, what would a 178 grain eld bullet require in terms of grains of powder using varget?

Nope. Both versions (9th and 10th) include 7.62x54R data for .308 bullets as well as some .311 and .312. Varget is not listed for the 178, unfortunately. They use it for the 174's and show 39.3-46.2gr.

The Hodgdon website has data for some Swift 180gr bullets. They show a range of 43.0-46.5. So you have 174gr bullets and a max of 46.2 (Hornady manual) and a 180gr bullet with a max of 46.5 (Hodgdon Website), so that gives you a good starting point. If you start around 40 and work your way up slowly, it's likely you won't blow your face off. Watch your pressure signs on your brass. You have to extrapolate sometimes in this hobby. Especially if you're limited to a single powder. Data for your exact combination just isn't always available. I'd make a video on the subject but it would probably be long and annoying.

Back when I reloaded EVERYTHING, I realized as I was doing case prep an 7.62 X 39. What was I doing??? It's so cheap that there is no reason to reload, especially since I was duplicating standard loads anyway.

I make lite loads so i don't have to chase brass in my sks. 32acp and 32-20 projos run from .311 to .313. 100 xtp 60gr are 15$ per 100 10 gr of unique . 313 lead cast powdercoated 100gr are 8$ per hundred at my lgs 6gr unique works fine.200gr gcsp sized to .313 are 15$ at my lgs. 7gr of unique is a good load in my rifle. Its one of my favorite cartridges to work up loads for because their is a projectile that will preforn at every velocity . want subs? Pistol bullets work at those speeds.

Which size mtm Ammo box isn't that???

I just rebarreled my 91/30. McGowen Precision Barrels in Montana. They make M44 copies too.

Ive never heard of an m39 with a .308 bore. thought that the Finns designed the m39 to use captured Russian ammo which was .311?

You might be right! I was just repeating what I had read on the subject. The good news is that I just bought an M39 so I'll be slugging the bore in an upcoming video, and trying different diameter bullets in it depending on the results.

All M-39's have a .310 bore. All of them. some earlier Finnish Rifles were .308's but by the time they made the 39's they went with .310 to shoot the Russian ammo...................

If you're putting dimples in the neck or shoulder of your brass during resizing your using too much lube or you could have some junk built up in your dies

slug your bore it will tell you what the diam of your bore is. if it's 308 then u can't use the .311 bullets
