This game is terrible. I always felt like this was unfinished business from back in 2013. I routed the game, ran it at AGDQ, and then never bothered doing PB attempts. This run remedies that.
This run was done on easy difficulty because the higher difficulties really only significantly affect the shooting sections. On hard difficulty, the enemies fire a nonstop stream of bullets, which makes it incredibly hard for you to line up and hit them. The boss fights are near impossible. I can barely target the weak points on easy mode when I have to dodge fewer than 10 bullets. On hard mode, you can never stop moving, so the bosses would literally take minutes longer. Considering the worst and least entertaining parts of the run would be made worse and the only tolerable parts stay mostly untouched, I decided there was no reason to run on a higher difficulty.
So, this run was pretty ok. There were no major mistakes in the platforming levels and the three boss fights were above average. There were definitely mistakes in the platforming sections, but none of the "major" mistakes you can make (the ones that cost 30-90 seconds each). I also had one slip-up with smart bomb management on the way to the fourth morph pod I think? Not the best shooting sections.

I love how all the enemies have the same death scream be they man, robot, or green slime monster. Also it appears the player has the same death scream too.

Lol the female enemies have a different voice at least, even if it is all the same for each type of them.

I'm glad! I've been meaning to upload the commented versions for a long time but never got around to it. This was actually recorded 8 months ago but I never did anything with it. Haha.
100% in favor of this commentary episodes. not speedtunner myself, but i do also make poor life choices, otherwise why would i end up here? in any case, your my fav speedrunner man as a whole (comment, humor, the way you are very sensible to the viewer). I apreciate the time put into this, specially the effort to study a game as awfull as this.

I was tempted to watch this video, then I realized I would have to sit through about 40 minutes of metal morph.
i'm not at the level you are PJ at torturing yourself, but i did watch the 2013 run live, and a few times after that on my own free will. I saw the streams of you routing this game, and your attempts. I am now watching your commentary speedrun of this truly awful game. I don't know what i'm doing with my life. pjdJobe

Other cool things about Metal Morph: - If you go into metal form anywhere remotely close to the edge of a platform, you slip off. The level design abuses this with pipe entrances in the middle of very narrow platforms. - Speed powerups (which increase your movement speed but don't make the shooting sections progress any faster) can STACK up to two times, making it impossible to hit anything and treating you to a truly nauseating Mode 7 experience. - The plot is nonsensical, the narration is confusing, and the game's font has about six letters of the alphabet that all look pretty much identical! - Google "metal morph box art." Thank me later.
those shooting section backgrounds sure have some special kind of parallax scrolling
So this game is basically SNES Limbo of the Lost with 90s IPs: Kano with the T-2000's metalslime thing and Judge Dredd's gun, with a mix of bad Metroid ripoff and bad Starfox ripoff stages.

Good job making it through this awful game PJ....As you were completing the platform levels I was wondering who's pimp walk animation was more obnoxious, Metal Morph guy or Treasure Master guy?

It does not. Hard mode ending is identical to easy mode ending.

Hmm. Than this game is truly terrible in every possible way. I thought there was perhaps a better Ending...
Why did you speedrun this game?? It was the only way to outdo Feasel's Deadly Towers run, amirite??

My sister got this game for my birthday knowing how bad it was. How did everyone else come by it? (If they have a copy)

I actually found this channel today after searching for "AGDQ PJ speed runs". I'm actually sad you have so few commentary videos since your runs for charity are full of explanations on how broken the games are and how the mechanics for games can be abused. Well, that and laughter, because you have fun running these things. Anyways my commendation for powering through this 'gem' of a game. I could only ever beat it with the level select cheat built into the game.

For all speedruns that I've done recently, I've been trying to upload a copy with commentary. That has only been the case for the past....year or so? Most of my older speedruns did have commentary but I didn't upload those versions to KZread for a few reasons: 1. I didn't know how to change default audio tracks back then; 2. Those runs were available on SDA; 3. The SDA channel used to upload the runs with commentary to their KZread channel and I don't like duplicate copies of my runs on KZread (same reason I don't upload my GDQ runs to my own channel). That being said, reasons 1 and 3 no longer apply, and reason 2 isn't a big deal since most people don't use SDA anymore. I might upload those older runs with commentary eventually, but we'll see.
