[Commentary] Lagoon deathless speedrun in

This run was achieved back in December 2015, but I didn't have any audio commentary uploaded to KZread. Since this is probably the one run for which commentary is most requested, I figured I'd go back and record it!
In the audio commentary, I cover basically everything that I care to talk about, but I guess I can give some quick summary points. This run is deathless, not only because it is faster, but also because this "category" necessitates it. I had no plans of improving this because everything went basically exactly the way I wanted it to go, but upon rewatching I think I found a few improvements that I want to look into. I might return to this run to try to get a 1:1X, but I am not making any promises.
I hope you enjoyed this run, and I also hope that the commentary is at least partially coherent.
If you want to watch this run without audio commentary, you can find it here: • Lagoon deathless speed...
This run was streamed live on my Twitch channel, so you can also watch that highlight here: / 28708013

    Also very excited about this run! The ADGQ 2016 run is one of my favorites of all time. Lagoon gave me hell as kid, so it's particularly satisfying seeing it completed so well. Getting commentary on the legendary save-less/death-less run is fantastic

    That's the run that introduced me to him, and it's definitely one of my favs. Seeing someone having so much fun demolishing a game that was the source of so much stress for me as a child was cathartic. I imagine it's how someone who grew up only allowed to learn classical music feels the first time they see someone having a jam session. It's like "oh... this is supposed to be......... fun? :o"

    PJ, bro. I fell in love with you, and speed running in general, when i saw you run this at agdq, like, 10 years ago? When you had puwexil and brosentia on the couch with you. Shit was amazing. I couldn't believe my eyes. I hated this game. You made it look so stupidly easy and that was it. I was hooked on speed running. You're still my favorite runner. I love these commentaries of your older runs. You're a legend in my book, and you seem like the nicest dude ever. Hope you're well, much love. Thank you for getting me into the scene.

    Hey PJ, finally found my way here after watching your GDQ run of this more times than I can count. Love your commentary and how much you seem to genuinely enjoy playing these sorts of "awful" games, it makes me smile and is helping me through some dark times. You're great, keep it up! Also kinda makes me want to play Lagoon. Might do it.

    Do it. The game's not like super hard to play, the main problems are the same things that make the speedrun a pain. The game is cryptic at times, enemies can hide in the background because its on two separate layers, and some of the bosses are a bitch to fight, but its not as bad as it may seem.

    Lakeland has a drinking problem. The answer is PJ. (that or more booze, but they're out.) joking aside, this is a weird beloved title fomr my earlier years. Nothing special about the memory, it was just one of the games I played with my friends alongside SGnG and Mario World.

    Always love to see your vids PJ. Good to hear from you. I know you always say how bad this game is, but this game was a staple game of mine growing up. As an 8-year old, the plot holes and mistranslations didn't register and as far as I was concerned, this was an awesome game. God forbid if I tried to speedrun it though.

    Is it just me, or is the commentary slightly de-synced with the video? Look at PJ's counting in the ella fight: 1:04:34 It's not really a big deal for a video like this, but I thought I should point it out. Also, I think you forgot to cover the lava jumping in dwarf cave, but that's also not as much of a trick as it is just exploiting normal mechanics. Overall, an enjoyable video.

    Out of curiosity, does the tri-shot fireball (the big fire ball specifically, not the tiny ones) deal substantially more damage to be worth using? Like versus the original fireball or windblade, I mean.

  • @TheSuperSNES

    @TheSuperSNES

    2 жыл бұрын

    It does! I don't have numbers, but it does a LOT of damage to the enemies in the Siegfried Castle basement. Idk if it is that much stronger than wind magic, or if those enemies are just resistant to wind magic, but it is definitely worth using over the small fireball or the wind cutter.
