[Commentary] Brain Lord any% speedrun in

If you want to watch this run without audio commentary, you can find it here: • Brain Lord any% speedr...
Shoutouts to Mecha Richter for selling me this cart like 8 years ago. I loved this game and I hope that more people will give it a shot after they see my runs/streams of it.
This category uses the Rotayo Skip to go straight to Toronto at the beginning of the game, skipping the first two dungeons in their entirety. Starting the run in the third dungeon with no fairies, no stat-ups, and only starting equipment is a substantial challenge. The speedrun would be hard enough even when appropriately prepared, but with so few resources available this becomes a tremendous hurdle.
This is what I'd consider the "entry-level" route. This category will always be incredibly difficult, but this route incorporates a lot of extra safety measures without sacrificing large chunks of time. There is only one shopping trip for the entire run, and I collect exactly enough hearts/equipment to guarantee that I will survive two hits from the final boss and usually survive two hits from the Ghost boss.
The next step is to update the route to cut out most of the equipment and hearts, and add some of the other skips that I know about (notably the Early Ocean Key skip), but that will require a pretty substantial reroute and a lot of practice.
As for the execution in this, I'm very pleased! I have no unintentional deaths, but I did have some pretty sloppy mistakes here and there and failed the full Droog RNG manipulation. Both boss fights were incredible, though. Please refer to the audio commentary for more details on mistakes and route considerations!

    Always love the commentated run. You always manage to explain even the most complicated tricks in a run so even if I never played the game I can understand. Outstanding work as always. You are and will always be the top speedrunnner/streamer I use as an example when explaining my love of the hobby. Thank you for everything you've done for the community!

    I started watching your runs/events at such a shitty time in my life. I had to sell all my consoles and games to avoid being homeless. Watching your runs with commentary I swear kept me sane. I just wanted to say thank you for all your hard work and grinding. Love all your work PJ and I hope wherever you are, you are doing well. Keep grinding man.

    Great run of a very underrated SNES zelda-like game. Can you do a 100% run?

  • @TheSuperSNES

    @TheSuperSNES

    2 жыл бұрын

    Thanks! Unfortunately, 100% would be too hard to define in this. Inventory is too small to collect every item/piece of equipment/Jade, and there aren't really any meaningful sidequests except for the Arena. People have suggested doing an "all Jade at max level" run, but that'd frankly be really boring. Would just be a ton of grinding for cash and levels. There's not really a meaningful way to define/run 100%. I think the only other worthwhile category would be an "all dungeons" run, which would either play in the intended order, or would do the skip in this run but return to complete the others later.

    IMO his best is the Dragon View WR since *according to tasvideos* they haven’t gotten the grand memory clobber to play the credits in their entirety. He’s probably the only person to hold the WR *over* the TAS. Without checking I know he’s got Dragon View and Lagoon. Probably Bionic Commando and maybe the remake, I can’t imagine anyone else grinding out 7th Saga, and I’m not sure if he’s got the Robotrek record or not. Actraiser 2 possibly. Batman and Robin is so terrible I wouldn’t be surprised if he has that. Oh Mohawk and Headphone Jack? So somewhere between 4 and 9 offhand, but I’d wager there’s more.
