    Great content :) I started shooting a Hinge ( True ball BT Gold) soon after I switched to compound from recurve about 14 years ago. I had target panic so bad I simply could not use a thumb trigger without punching it. Back then people in my club used to laugh at me as no one seemed to use a hinge releases here in the UK and considered them training aids only. Oh how times have changed. I can now shoot any form of release. The hinge release with lots of blank target shooting saved me from quitting the sport all together and really taught me how to use back tension. Many of the people who used to laugh quit years ago, target panic is a killer.

    1 sign back tension is incorrect is in follow theough. The follow through should not be exaggerated, and it should be the result of good executed shots. What that means is that it shouldn't be something you do consciously. The best analogy I can explain this with is if you have a rope, and you're pulling hard. When the rope snaps, the hand doesn't stay there, instead it continues moving back. Hope this helps some of you!

    I learned this from golf. Please just trust me. Practice does not make perfect. It makes permanent. Practice the wrong things and you'll just get really good at messing it up, which can actually work really well for you. I see a lot of guys shooting, golf and guns and bows oh my. The thing is, you'll have good and bad streaks as well as days. Dont let a bad streak break you from what you know works. That being said, it can be refreshing to try new things just to get your mind right, but in the woods if you're used to a triple blade Muzzy or a Rage Trypan, roll with it. Confidence equals clean and ethical kills.

    But I can cheat on a hinge too ? I started compound 12 month ago direct with hinge (as I hoped it’s close to my recurve shooting). The first 6 month or so I often forced the release by simple rotate. And boom. After watching more videos I understood how to let the rotation happen by apply back tension and movement backwards. Now I also got a true back-tension release and the accuracy improve quite a bit (but my muscle still need to build up; fatigue quick). Thanks for the video. So are the back tension and command style for automatic or manual? I was taught to practice shooting till bullseyes become muscle memory, and have accomplished that but this sounds like machinery is added to an automatic bow instead of a straight up pull back, find your spot, and release type of shooting

  • @brandonmartin8258

    One thing that helps me a whole lot when using the strap on release is an old trick I brought from my gun days. Instead of wrapping your index finger around the release trigger, use the middle of the tip section of your finger, you know, the flesh around your distal phalanges, and apply pressure in the corner between the trigger and housing. It really allows for a smooth release that will usually surprise you fairly well.

    But don't you have to adjust the sensitivity of the release in order for it to be activated effectively? A truBall Fang release has no spring, heavy and medium weight springs and it won't shoot with springs and if it does, it takes ages for it to go off

  • @geraldtarrant7576
    @geraldtarrant75763 жыл бұрын

    Two things, first you are correct when you say that the index or pointer finger is more sensitive than the thumb. So why use the index finger at all?? Try the middle finger ,it will give you better alignment, a better anchor using the index knuckle just behind jaw bone below the ear and is about as sensitive as the thumb. If to command the shot properly you need to put the back tension on and let the pin float. Look for the period stability that will come then trigger the shot. It should require as much attention as clicking a mouse button.

    Great Video!!! I stopped using a hinge when I saw a top level archer I won't name during 2 livesteamed events launch an arrow on the draw. He also mentioned in a seminar he launches arrows into the rafters a couple times a year. Also, some punch themselves in the face when it accidently goes off and end up with a bloody or broken nose, black eye or broken front tooth. Where I come from having a shot go off unexpectedly, during the draw or letdown (not aimed shot) isn't acceptable and is dangerous. Doing that at a rifle range would probably get you thrown out. Imagine a rifle round leaving the range while shouldering the rifle. Just my thoughts on the hinge which I have many and many thousands of shots using. Not saying not to use one either but something to think about.

    Let me tell you who mastered command style shooting in the compound world. Frak and Becky Pearson. Along with every Olympic recurve shooter. Yeah I sound like an ass here. But i would bet if you contacted cabe at spot hogg archery and bought a hooter shooter you would find out no matter how hard you pull on the release, It will never go off. Your wrist and fingers will not give unless told to do so. I have argued with George, Bernie and many other on this. You should video from the stands and see all the archer do this wrong. They shake like a dog shitting razor blade as they pull. often causing a push pull offset. i would suggest you video your release hand. Or having someone who can detect muscle movement in your release hand. You have to relax one part or nothing will happen. Keep pulling with back tension is a myth. Your only holdig even pressure between your shoulders for true forward and backward motion when the bow goes off.

  • @brendavanorden9550
    @brendavanorden9550 Жыл бұрын

    I also call bullshit on command shooting. Every rifle shooter knows they are applying pressure to the trigger. Same with your release. No index or thumb pressure no shot execution. Sme for a cam over release. What one may call a B.T. release. I know more archer pull with the fingers on the pivot back side to activate this release. The better archers relax the index finger. If you still disbelieve try it . Or ask Sergio who shoots a relaxed thumb from spot hogg. Send us a close up vid of your thumb and wrist or a cam over shot. I can pick it apart to see what moves. Buy the best camera you can afford to show exactly you B.T. methods!

    Why do people say panic? Where is the panic? Why are people panicking? I don't understand this is archery. You just practice keeping still and buy a good stab. Why would I want to not know when my shot is going off? I can't wrap my head around this for the life of me. I think after shooting for 20 years its like teaching an old dog new tricks lol

    Kind of disappointing... You just say "establish your grip, set your finger/thumb never and don't move it again," (nothing/no info) "push, pull, and the shot goes off!" Nobody on KZread does a proper job of explaining how, once your trigger finger is locked in place, that finger is ever going to cause the shot to go off. I infer that you're just digging the body of the release in to the flesh of your grip digits, (or wrist strap in to your wrist fat,) that little bit of extra movement actuates the trigger on your motionless finger or thumb.

    I mean I have videos on multiple platforms talking all about form, release execution etc. this was one of the first videos I ever made. So sorry if it’s not up to your standards lol. I can’t tell people everything in one video. Hence making a lot of smaller videos with more detailed info. Most of my stuff is on Fb and insta. I’m just now coming back to KZread so I’ll be making more stuff soon.
