Got the endurance max Minn Kota...The adjustable shaft works great. Spent big money and got a 100AH Lithium battery , because Minn recommended it , not really needed, But bought the battery new and the guy said it was charged and may just need to be topped off, I didnt. Went and used it over two full days, checked the meter...Still showing completely full. you MUST center the motor, or you play the left right left right game. Get the fin that attaches to the shaft it does help. I need to try out the seat steering hack as the extended handle and trying to control has you in one hell of an awkward position .

instead of seat steering, you can hook up a couple of pullies and a push/pull stick steering system, kind of like an emergency brake handle...

Have you thought of cutting the board down or flipping the board around, the motor mount would sit on metal frame and wood would be lower. I think that would give you at least a couple inches more motor in water depth.

I have the short shaft and mounted mine the same way as you did, in the center. One thing I did differently is mounted the wood even with the cross bar and put a piece of aluminum plate on the other side (where the trolling motor clamps onto). I tried the rudder, didn't like it so I sent it back (my opinion). What I do now is leave the wheels attached to the bottom and that acts as a rudder. I have only done this one time so I may end up going back to just using the oars as a rudder (per a previous recommendation from you, I believe) in the event that there is too much drag. I'll be taking it out this weekend so we'll see how it works! Cheers!

  • @willritter

Hey Gordon, super interesting using the wheels! I put in a link for the rudder since many people don't like to have the oars. I think people who choose to have a standing platform and elevated seat lose the practical ability to use the oars...though I'm not totally sure. Let us know how the drag situation works out!

@@willritter Well, I think the wheel "rudder" worked better with the single wheel than the two wheel set up (I tried both). I also decided to mount my motor on the front, mounted it with angle metal to my standing platform (diamond plate aluminum). I need to try that next. May not need to leave the wheels on but I probably will because it is just easier and quicker to get it out of the water.

Yes, in California if you add an electric or gas motor to your pontoon, kayak, or SUP it must be registered as a vessel where you are going to get numbers and a mussel sticker as well. AND depending on the lake or body of water of your choice to use the "vessel" it may required a lake permit from that county AND full inspection prior to launching. I registered both my pontoons (colorado xt and a creek co, pontoon) where I pay every two years $20 and $25... worth it!!! The initial registration process is a bit cumbersome but I know ways to get it done easy. 😉

why ask for a Thumbs Up before you validate your complaint about a motor you have not even identified yet... AFTER you give me information I feel is worthy, I will consider a Thumbs Up... Ok... so what you are saying it's NOT the motor that's the problem... it's YOUR mistake in not measuring what you needed and also how you may have mounted it... you can remove and shorten those tubes so therefore it might be possible to contact Minn Kota and ORDER a longer tube.. it's a simple fix... and for you to suggest "any other pontoon" is just arrogantly stupid as you DO NOT know the specs of ALL the other manufactures dimensions out there... you can't even fix your own problems... your explanation of Thrust is very poor... ALL Minn Kota motors are designed for different SIZE/Weights of vessels... but ALL are designed to push their Class of boat at approximately 3mph... now a 30lb on an inflatable with low drag and shallow draft, you "might" get 4-5 on flat water with zero wind... but going up river against a 3-4mph current and a strong headwind might just see you going backwards... I ran into that problem with a 30lb on a canoe, so I'm now running a 40lb on my inflatable which will give me more torque and maybe a bit more speed... and yes it will take more power from the battery and less run time... but you can also put a small GAS outboard on the XT... a 1.5 or 2hp would be perfect... your complaints are "your" complaints... I see simple fixes for all of them... you could drop that motor mount down another 4in. at least and that should solve your problem... you could probably buy a piece of PVC to slide over your motor shaft and lengthen it that way...
