Colorado Public DIY Mule Deer Bow Hunt

Ойын-сауық

Ricky Vandawater and Mike Horchner went to Colorado in hopes of bagging an archery Mule Deer. This was a grueling hunt that paid off for Ricky. Elevations reached over 13,000 feet in elevation, but the persistence was key in getting a shot at a DIY Colorado archery mule deer.

    As a Colorado Native, archery mule deer on public land is a tough hunt. It’s not like sitting in a tree stand by a feeder all day. Challenging, yet fun.

    Congratulations on a great buck! I do have a question, was it just the angle of the camera or was that giant 2 point standing right behind the buck you shot? I see that you did have a complete pass through, so my question is, is it possible you could have stuck the 2 point behind your buck after the arrow passes through your buck? It's always tricky when they get batched up like that. Either way, congratulations on a very nice buck!

  • @rickyvandawater5152

    @rickyvandawater5152

    Thank you.....The 2 point was at the rear of the buck I shot from my angle (shooter) I know from the camera angle it look directly behind, but it wasn't. My arrow actually went behind that rock that was in view if that helps to tell how different our angles were.

    Just curious in hindsight that first bomber you were bellowing at shouldn't you have closed the distance at that point if wind and noise was clearly a non factor? Great hunt though really enjoyed the video!!!

    Yes possibly but he was totally confident in shooting the 50 60 yards and didnt want to blow it and not even get a shoot. But I guess it is a gamble either way to be honest. Try to get another 10 to 20 yards or wait him out and take a longer shoot with more factors to consider. Thank you for watching and liking it.

    The deer was 66yds, and shot like 60, and I felt very confident with my 60yd pin. However I did not compensate for the wind current coming up the mountain, and shot over him. Looking back now I wish I would've tried closing the distance. The arrow might not have sailed on me 🤷🏼‍♂️ ...... Live and learn I guess..... Thanks for watching ....

    Can't help it, we owe it to those enamored by this video. - Albeit gorgeous, this is roughly 500 yards off of a well traveled famous highway. These dudes drove ALL the way up that 13000' elevation and glassed those deer from a pull off at the top. I assure you this was not as "grueling" as it appears.

    Am I the only one who is questioning this guys knowledge of hunting/bow hunting after watching?! First shot was horrible but that happens, then the second one he shoots with two deer directly behind it(surprised he even hit it seeing that white knuckle grip he had on his bow), then to top it off apparently leaves it overnight without even gutting it.. what a joke.

    Angles can make a big difference I believe he wasn’t at the same angle as the camera and he hammered the one he wanted so my only complaint is leaving the guts overnight really should have not stopped tell the deer was at the truck.

    that was not an ethical shot... there was a deer directly behind the target buck, there was a high probability of injuring or killing multiple deer. Not cool.
