Cody And Joe Disagree On Which Shelter Is Safer | Dual Survival

Ойын-сауық

Trapped in the African savannah, Cody and Joe have to find a shelter that is far enough from a trail to avoid running into elephants and hippos. Despite Joe finding a hollow baobab tree and smoking out the bats and insects, Cody feels that the protection the tree offers doesn’t offset the risk of contracting many of the viruses and infections found in bat feces.

Remember, bats carry all kinds of diseases that humans are juicy targets for. Rabies, anyone? Not to mention corona... If a rabid bat bites you, and you don't notice and don't get a anti-rabies shot, game over. By the time you get the symptoms, you are a dead man walking. There is no cure for rabies at that point. I think it comes down to Cody respecting Joe enough to say, "Well, he's not an idiot and isn't going to just lead us to our deaths for no reason. Might as well try his idea out." I actually respect Cody more for defaulting to Joe's shelter and not fighting the issue and storming off like a baby when he didn't get his way. Joe's not a fool and Cody fully understands that. The chances of getting the Bubonic plague or hantavirus or whatever was negligible at best, however the risk-reward was just too high I'm catching a fatal virus. The odds are you'll be better off seeking in Cody's shelter rather than a disease-carrying tree. Research shows that some trees in Africa actually house a lot of different diseases and viruses. So this is where I have to agree on Cody on this one however good on you Joe. From a tactical standpoint who are very right nothing to get through that bunker of a tree.

Snakes are avoidable but what isn't avoidable is the bubonic plague that some bats carry and some even have rabies , just a minor scratch from a bat while you're asleep stranded and lost in the middle of nowhere could spell disaster , i live in a remote village where we have a lot of bats , belive me we stay away as much as possible from bats and bat guano ( bat poo)

I mean, I agree with avoiding the tree. It might be structurally more sound, but that risk of sickness is not something I'd want to risk in survival. While it is challenging to out run or get away from other animals, you can do it. Once you get sick, you're sick and there is no going back. Just wait it out at that point.

No it would not be a safe place to sleep in even if there was a way to clean out that floor of that tree. What Cody said it was a very old tree, therefore gets respect his knowledge in studying indigenous people. I'm part native American that even I know that if you don't see any cave writings of any time by pentagram Etc if you don't see any of that that is a no-go that usually means there is some potential Danger just got a place like that. So unless you done your research on native peoples and their knowledge you're going to fail that knowing what is and what isn't a good place to stay.

not really, Joe's points weren't valid at all. He's not at war. You don't need to have an impenetrable shelter. During WWII, we, America, built bunkers and gun emplacements at the Panama Canal. In the 80s, I was in the Army and we got sent to Ft. Sherman Panama for jungle training. They said we could check out the bunkers but carefully. Bat shit on the ground. It dries, you walk on it, shit dust stirs up, breathe it in, you get sick. A buddy of mine started singing, "I got bat shit fever," to the tune of Cat Scratch Fever. The instructors caught on. Totally with Cody on this one, as well as many other times.

I could see the option of camp outside and against the tree. Camp fire out side the entrance with as much protection as materials would allow.. Now disturbing the floor to "clean" is ill advised but if there is enough grass or what ever to make a barrier floor for the time being then I could see making it acceptable for safety if and when something shows up. When the danger leaves then go back out and feed the fire. Chasing critters out with smoke is a good idea.
