CNES Shoemaker Wholecut Review | Value Entry Level Goodyear Welted Competition From Asia?

Hello my friends with yet another shoe review (and yet another bad joke!). How's everyone doing?
This time around, I got my hands on a pair of CNES Shoemaker Wholecuts in Black Calf, the Vestan II OR-3 (what a name!) to Review and Showcase for you. I tried to incorporate a tiny bit of footage wearing them, let me know if you like it!
A decent pair of shoes that are more geared towards the entry level and in my opinion direct competition to Meermin when discounted around 190$. Good construction, a nice sole but overall average finishing and leather that leaves more to be desired.

You are welcome Andre! I think their stronger points are the patina shoes and the hand-welted range! Definitely a good buy/try for the sale price at 190$!

Criminally underrated channel. Thank you so much for the review! I just ordered a pair, fingers crossed they'll arrive by Friday or Saturday (it's Thursday 1AM for me now, same time zone as Singapore). I don't expect much out of them, just a decent shoe that I can wear to the office with business casual outfits or casual suits. I'll post a review on Emerging Shoe Brands and the Shoe Forum I've checked out their Vietnamese website and good lord there's so much more options there. The international website has only a very tiny fraction of what's on offer!

Thanks for watching as always! I try to be honest with my videos. CNES doesn’t talk to me anymore. I think their MTO and local webstore is much better than the rtw line available Internationally. Let me know what you think about them! For 190$ they were pretty decent but not full price.

@@MisiuAcademy Mine was an approx $170 pair, so I do have my expectations lowered. I know that you will say things that people might not like not like to hear, and we love you more for that. Acting like those menswear KZreadrs who push brands like Ace Marks and Beckett Simonon, saying only the very best stuff about them is disingenuous (I know they want sponsors, but still...). I prefer guys to be real with the review, and say all things good or bad about the shoes. Nobody's perfect. I don't want to spend my hard earned money, promised the very best only to receive a meh product. Keep it real and hope to see more videos coming from you soon! Looking forward especially to the pair of stingray shoes I've been seeing on your IG

@@hanwenyap that's the point. I have talked about negatives of Crockett and I retail them. A guy once commented saying why do I hate them. I don't, why would I even carry them on the shop if I did??? Septieme Largeur is a direct competitor to my own brand at the shop, yet I had great things to say. At the same time the Saint Crispin's was underwhelming in many areas. There is no perfect shoe. For some people, Meermin or even CNES might be the perfect shoe for their budget. I don't dislike them, I have merely outgrown them. It's all about expectations in the end. For $170 it's superb value for entry level even though I'd never get them personally. The Stingray video is currently editing and will be up on Friday! You can message me if you want a sneak peak!

@@MisiuAcademy I guess people just need to have their priorities known before buying shoes. Should one go for price over quality? Or quality first? Or do I value finishing? Justin FitzPatrick said it best in one of the videos on his channel. As long as people know what they're in for, know the purpose of the shoes (occasional wear or beaters) and know what compromises have been made things will be clearer. Entry level brands do have their place even among collectors. Their Blake stitched shoes are $90-110. Crap glued shoes in Malaysia easily sell for that price or more than that. I know there's shipping and maybe taxes, but still it's much more worth it. Buy them and wear till the soles die out and maybe resole them once before donating to charity. Not that everything is bad, just that we need to be clear on what's working for them and what's not. I love your channel and Justin's because you guys are secure enough with the shoes you sell that you're willing to cover competitor brands. Honestly, no one wants to see 20 C&J, 20 Carlos Santos reviews on your channel. I'm looking forward to the video on Friday!

You should always get the best quality you can for the money you can afford. But also for what you wrote at the end, don’t forget that is a hobby channel and nobody pays me. I review what I have or what I can get on. It obviously is much easier to get Santos and CJ. Luckily I have a big collection and helpful viewers!

Another great review Kostas. I wonder if you might have liked one of their patina pairs better and perhaps not in a wholecut which as you said creases more. For wholecuts you really need the highest quality leather or at least a perfect fit. Sounds like you didn't have either. I think a cap toe or brogue in the more regular fit may have been more impressive for you. Looking forward to more from you!

Hey Tony! Glad you liked it! As far as the jokes go...I hope to keep them coming! The Meermin I got for free is allegedly used 4-5 times only but it hasn't held up so great. I will make a video and article review in the following weeks. I would say these are around their territory!

I own another model in this brand and while they are quite good value they are not perfect. My shoes fit extremely well and are comfortable but they do crease quite easily which I do not experience with other brands.Good value to have on rotation for a work shoe.

Leather will crease. It can be worse if the fit is wrong or if the leather quality is from a bad part of the animal, or if it’s thinner. If they fit you well just enjoy them

@@MisiuAcademy Yes in deed ,,, I think the quality is the same,, just a brand name that all...If I have a chance I will buy it...you know live in Japan not much choice the Japanese brand are also expensive ,,the cheap dress shoes in Japan makes you looks like shit and hurt your feet LOL..The Japanese like to wear oversize shoe because they had problem with European design. I saw in Tokyo most of gents wear long shoe and looks funny...But those rich dude wearing smart and sharp due to expensive gear that they are wearing...it is not fair ha ha ha..
