Hurting someone wasn't part of being a Club Kid though, this was secretly done and based on personal greed and drugs. It's nothing to do with the group as a whole.

He took angel and chopped him like a turkey on Thanksgiving. To get his limbs to fit in a bag 🦵 Then he comes out of prison and wants a reality show. If that isn't a sociopath/Narcissist combo then I don't know what is.

It's amazing they can remain so calm with these a-holes making fun of them on tv ! St James looks so pretty

I remember the club kids, they were so fun to watch, I was actually a club promoter for Limelight, Club Velvet, Webster Hall, Palladium, and The Tunnel in '93-94, the year this episode aired in fact, and I remember partying in my bodysuit, miniskirt, fishnets and combat boots even before I started promoting, it was the best time ever!!

This scene needs to make a comeback

In the early 1980s my older sisters and I had been in downtown Chicago IL by the Limelight Night Club! We saw three club kids all dressed up and I was hooked at 15 yrs old. We rolled down the windows of our car and yelled WE LOVE YOU ALL. Anna is now 54 and still loves them all dearly.

I frequented Limelight but never dressed like this. I remember watching from the balcony. Never took a drug and maybe had one drink. I liked the music too. It always surprised me at how open the drug usage was and they never got busted sooner than they did.

Ms. Close I used to go to Limelight for fun, as well, in the 80s. My boyfriend’s brother’s group performed there in 1987.

The party scene were the best years of my life. I am really working to get to where I can bring this scene back and better than ever.

Phil is so adorable with that sober, Irish dad snark with big grandpa eyes and hearing aids.🥰 Michael Alig literally clapped at him to get his attention LMAO. They simply could not impress him.

The apparent homophobia is bugging me...jeez we've made a lot of big strides since then.

I like how they "lost" the caller that did Rocky Horror.

Crazy….. I remember being home from school while sick and seeing this episode. I’m 45 now lol went to the limelight at the tail end before they closed…. At that point the tunnel, sound factory, exit and Twylo were the big clubs. Then Giuliani had them all closed. Nyc was never the same. Now if you want to go out dancing you need to get a table and spend $600 a bottle. Good times back then. They say youth is wasted on the young…. Definitely wasn’t wasted we had a blast!

I was too young to remember Donahue.... Thank God for that!!!!!! Club Kids are Great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I remember watching this when I was in 8th grade!

That huge dread-like hair piece is blowing my mind. I want to copy his whole look, it's amazing.

I remember this episode! I was in 7th grade and my mom was watching. I only stopped because I thought it was some kind of Halloween costume show. :/

Honestly this one got under my skins a little bit because I've always been fascinated by performers and club kids and drag queens...it's all about being yourself. I don't get what was so hard to process.

ironic that Donahue judges them by their clothes and then asks if he'd be welcome in some Club because of his old look. what a jerk.

I didn't think this interview would annoy me as much as it did but damn I hope parents have changed their ways since the 20 years this was on. Not trying to get political here but kids are killing themselves because they haven't got anyone who understands them and that even their own parents laugh at them or disown them or are ashamed to have them. And I think one thing Michael and James did great was they gave an opportunity for the kids to express themselves and honestly, I can honestly say that they probably saved a lot of people from killing themselves. It's a shame what happened afterwards with Michael.

My friend made me watch Party Monster a couple weeks ago and ever since then I've been fascinated by club kids. I don't know if I would necessarily want to be one, but I find them all fascinating.

I liked the scene back at the turn of the millenium the best; the vibe and the flashiness that erupted from people's excitement was such a great thing. There were a FEW people who did dress up a little like this, but the style was completely different. Lots of shiney and silver stuff, flashy lights, etc. So, the atmosphere and clothes were kewl, and everyone was so excited and happy, because of the events of the time. It was pretty neat to experience ^_^

I always wanted to be a club kid. Now at 49 I wish I would have tried it. But I'm glad I didn't cuz I would probably be dead or strung out. Nothing worse than a has been trying to look cool. Looking at you Astro Earl. It's time to grow up.

I'm currently a club kid... you all should come to garlands liverpool and see how we do it in 2012!!!

& i love at the very end the white all over the dance floor with the huge K hanging from the ceiling. classic. miss those days.

I love this culture, it seems non judgmental, I know they are profoundly judgmental but at the same time it lets people live their fantasies. I wish creative fashion was mainstream everywhere, really.

I just love philly d. my mom still talks about going to his show while he was in Chicago. i think he reinforced my parents accepting attitude. Phil is a great interview. his class, style and demeanor is a force. wish our media talking heads would remove their proverbial heads and recall what class looked like/ Mr. Phil Donuahue, you are a class act.

Donahue's judgement towards this is all about his homophobia.

They were pretty punk rock, and by that I mean very anti-conformity, they don't even have a set look, it's WHATEVER.

Kids and want to be Club Kids the one place you can still see this type of scene today is New Orleans where it is still cool to be Fabulous..

the make-up is amazing, petrilude needs to do some tutorials from club kid inspiration

It's about dressing how you feel... I always dress how I feel before I go out to an EDM event =) Club kids are still around just not as extreme... James St James just held an event an hour away from me this past weekend. =0)

@hattersuffa there are still some club kids they just hide in the rave scene if you want to bring back the club kid scene then do it :)

We go to tunnel,WebsterHall, USA, Mars,of course Limelight.NYCBABY.We were straight so we didn't dress like that,used to see Club Kids all the time having fun.We used to go upstairs at limelight. One of the cross dresser rooms and hang out and have a blast or 2 LOL! There was always this same guy wore a big dress and a lot of makeup prolly a club kid-big 6ft+ heavy guy that used to always try to dance with me, cut in front of me-whatever girl I was dancing with and bump me-I danced w/him once,we all got a kick out of it. my friends would break my balls-Say I was going to the other side. He knew I was straight but he was having his fun, wish I knew his name. RealBigXDresserGuy.My friends & I hit several Clubs a Night eat E and go to tunnel at like 4am Dance to Junior Vasquez till 9/10am. we would all come out of the club with the sun Shining-like a bunch of vampires. Still energized. Go to breakfast,Than sleep or work all DayMeet-up-rinse and repeat.AAH! MISS the shit out of them DAYS!

@MephistophelisedHam before richie was a designer he did actually release some club tracks in the early 90s. i belive he even released a 4 song EP that did pretty well amonst electronic music scene. :)

@Eric61801 although that is probably true for some, one opposing example James St. James ( the one with black green and yellow huge crazy hair thing) has written two very successful books and is a staple in the fashion industry and on shows like rupauls drag race and America's next top model. Just letting you know

I never did anything stronger than shots, and that was true for most of my friend and other promoters I worked with, and even the few that did pot, they never got into anything stronger than a joint, so not everyone who partied in Limelight or any of the clubs, in this era did drugs, and I loved the club kids, they were friendly and entertaining and not all were junkies, so it's not a fair assumption.

i feel this show was too conservative and seemed to attack the club kids.

Most talk shows start out as kind of respectable and legit. Then they realize people who are watching are mostly trailer trash rejects who want to see sensationalism. Donahue is no different.

Phil is In-real-life scared of people in costumes... he has never heard of going out to clubs, doesnt know it's called "going out"... is surprised they let in black people . WTF ? seems like he grew up on an isolated red-neck ranch, then jumped straight into live TV. Also, 6:30 - hangs up on the caller who supports the club kids.

The NYC club scene was so much cooler back then. If only I could have been 22 in 1993 instead if 2011 -_- , I definitely would've been a club kid! Now its all about this Jersey Shore type of scene, which is quite boring to me. I want the club kid scene to make a comeback!
