Well it's now 33 years later and I'm still mourning Nelson's early death. So, I'd say the world became a LOT emptier the day Nelson died. We can only imagine what great things he would have contributed to LGBTQ and NYC history had he lived longer. Nelson documented both is such an excellent, intimate and personal way. Thankfully NYU realizes the value of Nelson's pioneering vlogs and has archived around 2,000 of them. RIP Nelson Sullivan, you are one of the giants of LGBTQ and NYC history and are widely loved by both communities!

you can tell everyone kind of doesn't want to be on film this time around...but i think Nelson knew the importance of capturing a scene and a moment...aka pretty cool to be a fly on the wall over 20 years later! cool condo too btw...

Sudden-death, which is a massive heart-attack with no warning. I remember that he was very exhausted that day, as I saw his last video when he said that to his dog, and he passed-away, presumably in his sleep, just a few hours later at his home. As I said in my previous comment, he never looked "well", and many people ASSUMED that he was "sick", but no one ever believed that he would drop-dead with a sudden-death attack as he did. The world is a little emptier with him.

I thought of doing something like that several years ago...but now Dick is dead. Sylvia is dead. Micheal is dead. @@rundbaum Baguettes are a cultural food staple and aren't going anywhere. They are awesome, and delicious, and extremely far from dumb. They are actually very sophisticated, and they go with every meal. Petite dejeuner. Dejeuner, at diner. We are dumber now if we don't eat them, especially because they mean a lot more than nutrition. They mean family and communication and home especially in France. I just wanted to knock that claim to dust right off the bat, because it is ludicrous. People are so stupid today. They are a pound foolish and a penny sly. Alig was cool. He did a lot of cool things. I feel really badly that he died the way he did. I would have loved to have met him. I am going to check out this acid house music. Thanks for the tip.

Not really, it was the first half decade of the AIDS crisis, and the community was traumatized by death after death of brilliant, beautiful young people. Not care free, at least not this latter half of the decade. Imagine a pandemic but it only strikes people in your own community and every one else turns up their noses at you and blames you for your own illnesses and suffering. The big controversy was not about bathrooms but about whether children with HIV should be ALLOWED to attend school at all. That was a common conversation and the public was in full homophobic panic. Any time before smartphones was carefree like this. People were more relaxed with each other. I will give you that.

I knew a lot of DJs and was a dancer that people knew (not lots of girls in circles back then) but I knew these kids from the darker side of that world, if you know what I mean.
