*CLOSE RANGE* The Dalton/Ashby, MN EF4 Tornado - Full Chase and Life Cycle - July 8th, 2020

Whoah, where do I begin?
This was honestly a dream chase and one of the best chases I’ve ever been on in my 10-year career chasing in the midwest. It was amazing to witness this slow-moving photogenic supercell that produced a drill bit photogenic tornado that was on the ground for over 40+ minutes! It just doesn’t get any better than that!
Unfortunately, there is a dark side to nature’s beauty. It’s hard being in a hobby where you are sometimes the active watcher in other people’s dismay. It’s a tension that not only myself but I know a lot of other storm chasers have wrestled with over the years. No, we do not want to see property or lives being destroyed, yet we are mesmerized by the power weather can do. All of that to say, I love weather but wrestle with its destructive nature. And within that wrestling, learning to just trust God with what's going.
I hope you enjoy the video though - as you can tell from the video and the description, it was a very bitter-sweet experience for me but is one that I will never forget.
GoFundMe Update: The GoFundMe link has been removed - thank you for all that supported the families and those that were affected!
Details of the Tornado:
The National Weather Service has officially rated the tornado as an EF4 with winds up to 170mph. It was on the ground for 40+ minutes and tracked 11 miles near the towns of Dalton and Ashby, MN.
Disclaimers:
- There were several other people in front of me that checked on the homes that had damage before I got there.
- Because I know someones going to say something about it - No, I didn’t stop completely at that stop sign, yes I definitely looked all the ways before crossing.

That's just like praying to the god that sent the tornado to protect people even though god sent the tornado to ruin people's lives and kill them. How does that make sense? Seems as though there is a gap in cognitive reasoning.

When he said WOW I said it at the exact same time. Amazing filming. I lived through a tornado when I was a teen. We knew one was coming but we were looking for it and it was on the ground. We couldn't see it at all. Talk about calm before the storm! It was dead silent and not a leaf was moving. All of a sudden we saw leaves lifting straight up. It took many homes in our area including the one two houses down from us. Nobody died. That was a miracle. It did sound exactly like a train.

Thanks for reminding us all that a destroyed building or home is more than a bunch of lumber & nails. I am truly fascinated by the complexity & power of 'mother nature', but at the same time, I am horrified & saddened when I see that someone's lifetime of memories & hard work has been obliterated in seconds by 'mother nature'. I think it's important to understand that storm chasers would much rather see highly photogenic tornadoes like this one, but that they also stay completely away from homes, businesses, and other occupied buildings. Unfortunately nobody can do anything to control 'mother nature', just warn people when they're likely in danger (which storm chasers usually do).

I was in a tornado watch today, I got kind of scared when the clouds started getting dark. They were moving fast, so me as someone who studies about tornadoes I Knie that the tornado was in our area at the moment, so I got scared and told my grandma and I asked her “do you think the tornado will come?” She said “I don’t know..” that just made me even more worried so I was about to actually get in my closet. I didn’t go in but I was still scared! I kept telling my best friend that “OMG IM SO SCARED!! I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO!! :CCC” and we were both worried. Like an hour later it got lighter outside, I was so relieved that it passed. IF YOURE IN A TORNADO WATCH OR WARNING GET IN A CLOSET OR BATHROOM OR THE LOWEST FLOOR IN A STURY BUILDING!!!

No, tornado's move in one direction, from the sw to the ne. If you are on the other side looking back at it, that's the dangerous part. Following one or staying behind it isn't. They can take a "right turn" which you see in this video. However he is behind it, so it appears as a left turn. When they take a right turn, those in the path or on the otherside watching it approach are the ones in danger. You always want to be behind the tornado. Coming from someone whose lived in tornado allly 53 yrs. Also they can stop and just churn and churn. That's what happend on I think May 8th famous tornado. It sat outside the hospital in Joplin Mo. LIke and angry beast. However if it hand't of stopped and just sat there, many more would have been killed. It gave the hospital time to move the patients. Tonadoes are truly the "finger of GOD".
