Hi Suzanne. I just love it when I see Americans respond nicely to our Cliff. Despite over 40 EMI UK hit singles in just the 1960's alone, EMI USA, the parent Co of EMI UK, refused to promote Cliff at that crucial time, (and forever since), and treated our Cliff with total disdain. His UK singles total, now exceeds 140, and still climbing! Last Christmas, he was number 2 in the album chart, pipped by some guy called Stormzy. Cliff was 83 years of age !!!!! He has had a top 5 UK album in each of the last EIGHT decades!!!! That feat shall never be matched, not even by Elvis Prickly, the man who was so underhanded with his threats to USA record labels, TV and radio stations, to ensure our Cliff never had a level playing field. Despite this, Cliff has had three top 10 Billboard hits, and 19 Billboard entries in total. I am 65, and just hate Elvis for what he did. Elvis couldn't lace Cliff's boots. Cliff is enormous globally, everywhere except in the USA. Our own UK charts, which still hold enormous prestige, have been battered by our Cliff. 14 numbe one hit singles. 7 number one albums. 147 hit singles, including 68 top ten, (14 number 1's, 12 number 2's, 8 number 3's, a total of 51 top 8's). 81 were top 20, and 112 and counting, top 40. 105 albums over 66 years, of which only 3 (!), failed to chart, due to being religious albums. 7 albums were number 1, and 28 top 10, and 42 top 20, and 81 top 40. His DVD's record is staggering, what with them only coming out in the late eighties. Cliff recorded 18 CONSECUTIVE number 1 DVD's!!! He has released 41 DVD's, all top 3. He has produced each year, an annual Christmas calendar, since 1976. I have every one of them. It has been the best selling UK calendar for 46 years out of the 47, the group TAKE THAT knocking him down to number 2 in one particular year. When he released a perfume brand for the ladies, it outsold, in the UK, Chanel, Yves St Lauren, Joan Collins, Estee Lauder,.... all top brands, ...period! He had his own vineyard, and his wine, named Vida Nova, sold 8 million bottles here, and even Harrods ran out!!!! All biographies about Cliff, plus his 2 autobiographies, peaked at number one in the best sellers chart. 300 million record sales worldwide, SO FAR, which, like Julio Iglesias, is staggering, what with their bizarre lack of commercial sales in the USA. The USA market baffles me. It fully embraces Celine Dion, whom I just worship, yet totally ignores Lara Fabian, who is the only female singer entitled to dine at Celine's table,.... and vice versa! Anyway, so glad you love our Cliff. He is our true national treasure, and, over here at least, has a higher profile than anyone, including Paul McCartney. Not just music, any art form or any form of celebrity status. He is the dog bollocks and, for me, alongside Neil Young and Joni Mitchell, simply the greatest of all time.

But one thing about the songs of the past is that they are oustanding. Cliff has said in the past that this was one of the nicest songs he had ever heard, and that it would of been a hit for anyone, but the singer and writer Dave Townsend said Cliff gave it something he hadn't even imagined when he wrote it. Songs are like babies to writers, and when he heard Cliff's interpretation ,he instantly knew it was Cliff's song, and helped produce it.

30 years ago I saw Cliff perform this in Belfast. At 'midnight diamonds' they turned the mirror ball flooding the hall with points of light, and the entire audience of 6000 people spontaneously went "Awwwww.....". It was incredible to see so many people crying by the end of the song. That is performance.
