Cleaning Out the Snakey Flowerbed & Planting Onions
Matt and I finally got the overgrown flowerbed tamed. It looks so much better! Once we had the area cleared we planted a few rows of onions to go with our fall greens and turnips.

I’m with Matt, I love the cold weather. If temperatures never rise above 60 degrees, I’d be as happy as a pig in 💩
The rose was such a thoughtful gift and the trellis will hopefully encourage the rose to climb. What a nice memorial for Miss Cindy!
Matt seems so relaxed. Glad y’all can work together now!

I don’t comment often but have watched your channel faithfully for a couple years. Thank you for sharing your life with all of us. Even though we’ve never met, you all feel like family & it is a comfort to hear the events of the day! One of my Sons has been after me to ask if there is something special you do to ward off ticks. Thank you! So glad you enjoy our videos! We appreciate you watching!! We don’t do anything special just look carefully for them 😀
Great video and I loved the story of Granny and the raccoon. Loved Matt’s story too, but not that he took home the copperhead, but how he thought it was cool he caught a poisonous snake and didn’t get bit. I’m sure he was proud of himself. Glad he didn’t do it again. Reminds me of a neighbor’s son back in WV. His name was Phillip and he would catch critters and put them in his pocket, but would forget about them. I head his mother scream many a times when she found them in his pants pockets. That boy got more talkin too than any kid I knew. He actually got a whoppin when she found the dead snake in his pocket. It was just a garden snake but she made sure he wouldn’t pick up another snake to put in his pocket again. I reckon he learned his lesson that day.
Matt's shovel drop and walk off was too funny 🤣🤣 Love seeing you too together all the time now. Thank y'all for having us along ❤
i was about 6 yrs old found a lil fury thing n picked it put it on my shoulder n walked in the back door to show my momma n she ripped me a new one saying get that thing out of here i cried i just wanted to show her the pretty furry thing lol later on i found out what it was it was a young river rat now i watch my granddaughter playing n picking up things she’s never seen n that reminded me of my lil fury friend ❤❤❤
When Matt paused in what his Dad about had, my mind filled in, "conniption." My Dad used the same term.
I loved doing this when I was able. Thanks for sharing with us. Good to see Matt enjoying his retirement.
I loved the Granny story about the Raccoon. I love Matt's reactions to your asking if he wants to work some more. Time for Matt to get a time clock so he can clock out for the day 😅 Have a blessed evening 🤗🙏💕

I’m not from Appalachia but I enjoy watching your videos that you make of the two of you and your family. My heritage is Italian but my grandparents were from the Apennine mountains in south central Italy. Mountain people have very similar work ethics and strong family ties, no matter what part of the world they come from. I just want to know how much I appreciate your videos. May the Lord continue to bless you and your family. 🙂

Another nice video. Thanks for letting us visit. Have a blessed evening. Prayers for Granny and wisdom for her doctors. God bless you all.
I had to laugh at Matt because when Tipper said you guys could start working outside in Jan., the look on his face was priceless! Matt you’re retired now and so now starts your lifelong job called Honey Do!
What thoughtful and lovely gifts in memory of Ms Cindy. A rose is so appropriate and the trellis is graceful as she seemed to be. God bless and be safe in this heat.
I’m glad no snake came out of that mess. You two are having a second honeymoon working together. My heart is joyful you all have each other. Take care❤
Here's a lazy gardener compost hack. Bury some banana peels close to Miss Cindy's rose. Roses love the potassium, helps them to set new roots. Next time you plant a rose just throw the peels in the hole with the rose. Easy peasey!
Matt is becoming a “ham” and I’m lovin it💕
I have an uncle couldn't stand snake. He flipped over backwards in a chair once just seeing one on TV. He loves to fish so when I was little I found some worms for uncle Wilburn . I was so proud! They turned out to be baby snakes😂oops

Thanks for taking us into the yard today. Couldn’t help but laugh when y’all had the are cleaned out & you said you hated to cut your last zinnias & phlox down, and Matt said he didn’t have a problem doing it. You see I have been planting perennial wildflowers on one of my banks over the years. But somebody; my hubby, always seem to forget they’re there and weed whacks them down before they even get out of the ground good. However, this year I finally was able to keep him away from that section & I have been able to enjoy my wildflowers. Plus, hopefully they will reseed and be more plentiful next year. See y’all again next time.
I'm with Matt. We're not done with the hot weather yet. Unfortunately!!! Hoping you'll be right Tipper ❤❤... Don't let the boss get to you Matt 🤣😂🤣😭😭
The 🦌 hunter is so happy about deer season getting here, that if he had a tail, it’d be wagging! 😂😂 That’s an ole saying my parents used to say. I grew up around hunters. We have much in common! ❤
48 degrees this morning. Sunday it’s supposed to be 90. September is cold in the morning and hot in the afternoon! Enjoyed our visit, now it’s time for breakfast, biscuits and gravy and fried taters, and watermelon! Have a great day!

I compost like y'all. I actually scatter it directly on the garden all winter, including the chicken manure. Then, when gardening season comes, I start the compost pile again. I've read that directly on the garden in winter is fine. It's just slower breaking down. God bless y'all.
The whole reason we have science is because many people only have time to keep it simple. Since flower lovers are not going anywhere, I have taken to thinking about flowers as displaying the geometric motion used by animals to survive.
: God Almighty first planted a garden. And indeed, it is the purest of human pleasures. Francis Bacon: There are no gardening mistakes, only experiments. ~ Chinese proverb: All gardeners know better than other gardeners. Live and learn. Nothing better than filling God's green earth. Stay Blessed,
So nice to see you two working together getting the garden in order...I like watching the abandoned homes videos on you tube...so interesting...Fall will be here soon enough...the Rose and Trellis tribute to Miss Cindy was beautiful...God Bless🙏🙏🙏

I love Matt’s mountain sense of humor 😂
BTW - my son in law introduced me to roasted carrots. Clean carrots cut sort of similar sizes , then on a cookie sheet, place carrots, cover with olive oil & s&p. Oven at 450 for about 25 minutes.
I laughed out loud when you told the story about Granny and the raccoon. It reminded me of seeing the raccoons at Cumberland Falls State Park in Kentucky. The restaurant throws out scraps for the raccoons and you can watch them through the window at the restaurant 🦝
Well, glad you got through the flowerbed without any incidents. I'd be wearing long pants and boots Tipper. They probably won't get into that thick of weeds though. A couple days ago I had a rattler in the enclosed dog run which has mesh on outside. Took me off guard , my young dog spotted it in weeds along the fence that were only a couple inches . Anyway I ran inside and by the time I got dressed it had squeezed under that fence and it was flater than a pancake. I couldn't reach it with the shovel over the fence. It went under the pine trees. So about an hour later my husband called the neighbor because I wouldn't go hunt it down and he found it coiled up against the tree trunk and shot it. I received my cookbook yesterday thank you, but that Jim made me want to cry, putting those morels in there. I haven't had any for many years, now I can just look at the Pic and dream. Your recipes are very easy to follow and look good. I need to put my big girl boots on and get back out there and water that cherokee purple.

Matt is so funny.he’s really a hard worker , I love how you two work together.
You two sure deserve a popsicle after that work enjoyed the video keep safe and God bless.
The two of you are such hard workers!! It's not easy to garden in the heat. Tipper, I got so tickled when you were telling Matt the plans for next year's prep, and he kept saying, "January?? January?? January??" Too funny.

Truly hot here..can't wait on that cooler weather. I'm thinking, sadly, we may be Christmas shopping in shorts. We just had a black racer on the front porch...glad, but it freaked out my neighbors, they are beautiful and move so swiftly...I grow my onions inside in water..they are great.
There is nothing better than homegrown cooked carrots 🥕 we love them!!

Tipper, I don't blame you for hiding the ice cream from Matt! I have to hide mine from my husband because otherwise my Kay's ice cream sandwiches come up missing!!! Mine just finished off his Dr pepper ice cream. But I still have my ice cream, cause it's hid behind frozen homemade stew hehe. So anyways, what are y'all gonna do to celebrate 250k subscribers soon? Probably over winter it will happen. I'd recommend a nice steak dinner made by your new gopher employee, aka as Matt! you sit back with a hot cup of hot chocolate with marshmallows, ring a bell and ask him for a homemade steak dinner hehehe. Serious though you do need to celebrate the huge milestone coming up. Maybe a night at hot springs resort just you and Matt :) plz stay cool Thursday and Friday as they are forecasting 100 degrees even over here in Sevierville. Praying for y'all.
Saw how quickly you two weeded that bed. I should ask you guys to come up north to weed my beds. The miracle of speeded-up video. LOL

You and Matt sure are a couple of hard workers! Please be careful to not overdo in this heat. Your yard is beautiful when in full bloom. The birdcage trellis you put over the rose bush for Miss Cindy is such a beautiful tribute to a beautiful lady. We’ll just sending you a message to tell you I just love the show and I’m making the Justin Metcalf pickles with my sister this week. I told my sister all about the show. I’ve got 5 sisters and a brother and a beautiful daughter and I’m always talking about your show. Wait til they eat these pickles, then you’ll have another half dozen or so new subscribers. 🤣😂. We’ll see what happens. Anyway take it easy this week, from the Great Lake state of Michigan.
I loved your Granny story! 😊 Y'all sure did a good job! I'm here in Texas, and when we first moved to this place we killed 7 snakes in the first 3 months--3 copperhead, 3 rattlesnakes, and 1 coral snake. Got some barn kitties, and they cleared out all the snakes, moles, gophers, field mice, smaller armadillos, and chased out the raccoons. The only snake we've seen since then was last week---we've had a terrible drought/heat wave, and when my hubby went to check on the sheep one night, he saw a 3 1/2 foot rattlesnake crawl out of the field heading toward a water trough. He got it with a hoe and (wishful thinking) hung it on the fence . It didn't flip over, so no rain for us. Have a blessed evening!
Love watching Popsicle time. Glad you all are enjoying retirement
Skunks here, I finally fenced around my garden and I do like to bury stuff too in the garden👍, too lazy to turn a compost pile! I have saved in 5 gallon buckets with lids outside even during winter here in northern Minnesota. When it all thaws in spring I take the buckets and pour the contents into trenches in the garden. Lazy woman composting 😊 Thanks for the wonderful videos and recipes

Yes, I have poplars, sassafras, bad ornamental pears... which definitely has to go. Joe Pye is serious medicine. I have not grown a garden or really cared for my yard, except to mow, since my husband passed 3 years ago. It's time to live again.

Miss Tipper no worries, I'm here to help out when ya slip up. It's not "work with me" it's work for me"😆. And ya gotta be stern and let your new employee know there will be no walking off the job like that🤭and can result in docking of paycheck next time. 🤣jk👍👍btw, i picked up a box of the grape outshine Popsicles at wally world today and they are very good but sweeeeeet😄 Anywho, y'all have a Blessed week! til next time be safe. ...👋...
I loved to hear you say Toboggan for a cap. When I moved to Illinois from NC I was looked at quite crazy when I would call my winter hat a Toboggan. In Illinois, it’s strictly used for sledding. “Let me go get my Toboggan” was funny when they expected a big sled and I came out with my hat.

I really enjoy your videos! As I began typing I heard a dog, not too far from your area, that’s barking! Sounds like it’s penned up against its will. I suppose you’ve heard it it enough that you don’t pay any attention to it and you couldn’t anyway, as it isn’t yours! Poor puppy! Before long, you will really enjoy your onions that you have planted. Nothing much tops a meal off better than good fresh onions!

Love it....!! You're workin' Matt like a rented mule....LOL
It sure does take over! I watch Old Byrd Farm. He’s been restoring a house thst is full of stuff and was taken over by wisteria. The entire property was taken over! He’s come a long way, but he’s really funny and they have a side channel. Sidestep Adventures (pretty sure that’s it) where they go to abandoned cemeteries and the history is fascinating! I had bamboo here really bad in back of property and I cleared a lot years ago. However, it’s a constant thing to work in. It will take over! Im glad it gets cold in winter and we get to start new next year. Things look so wild here right now. Gets to where all I can do is keep it mowed and hope for next year. I enjoyed seeing all y’all fishing and eating at the picnic table in the girls channel.

Hi Tipper and Matt, I truly enjoy your videos. I know I will be smiling by the time it ends. I'm like Matt and Katy, I love watching the shows about the abandoned houses. They give you a glimpse of the past. I loved the Granny story. I'm still praying for her and all of y'all, the doctor and nurses that will be over seeing her care. Also praying that she stays comfortable and pain free, so she can do her crocheting and canning her green beans. Matt looks more relaxed now that he is working for his woman. Lol.
