Excellent review, thank-you. Just for the record, my dad gave me a break-barrel Diana air riffle model 27 Cal.177 (4.5mm) back in 1981...still got it and keeping on shooting with my kids back yard plinking like the good old days. Can't get enough of this German made guns.

I have owned and used the diana 34 for 3 years now and it has been superb. Mine is .177 and has proved to be very accurate and consistent. This gun has been around for many years yet has mostly stayed under the radar. They are not the easiest guns to find here in the uk. In my opinion the 34 is as good as any other full power break barrel available if not better. I do not know the exact power output of my uk model but i do know that it kills rabbits cleanly at 40yds.

I have a Diana 34 .22 with T06 trigger. I bought it new in France by mail order about eight years ago. The air rifle was sold as having muzzle energy of 20 joules (14¾ foot pounds), the maximum allowed in France without a firearms licence and the cylinder of the air rifle is marked "20J". I measured the muzzle velocity for pellets of different masses and calculated the energy to be between 15 joules and 17 joules (11 foot pounds and 12½ foot pounds) depending on the mass of the pellet was reasonably close to the rated energy. It is now a handsome and accurate air rifle and very pleasant to use. However there were some issues which were factory faults or design deficiencies some of which I corrected. 1. One side of the stock at the front of my rifle was 1/8 inch longer than the other side. This did not affect the use of the rifle but it was a manufacturing defect all the same and unsightly once you had noticed it. I carefully filed the longer side to have the same profile as the other side and I sanded, stained and waxed the wood so that my correction was invisible.. 2. There are three heights available for the front sight. The front sight on my 34 was too high. Even with the rear sight set as high as possible, it could not be zeroed to a target at 10 feet. I spoke to someone in the factory and they said they could not understand how it had passed its tests but they sent me a sight of the correct height, which corrected the problem 3. If you try to raise the rear sight too high, the adjusting wheel unscrews completely and the two steel balls 0.1 inch diameter between the wheel and the sight then fall out and are lost. In my view, it is a design defect that there is nothing to stop the adjusting wheel unscrewing completely. 4. When I received the 34, one of the front screws attaching the stock to the mechanism did not seem to be screwed into its correct position. I found that the screw holes in the mechanism had been badly tapped and the screws had then been force-screwed into the mis-tapped holes, damaging the thread of the screws. If the factory's quality system had worked correctly, the problem would have been recognized by the worker inserting the screws, who would have had the authority to stop the production line until the tapping problem had been corrected. I re-tapped the screw holes (using a correct metric tap) and installed new and undamaged screws. 5. The large screw at the front of the trigger guard sometimes comes loose and the rifle then looses accuracy, even though the screw has previously been well tightened. I am not sure what would be the best solution to this problem but it is a defect that should not be there 6. A final and minor point, but a quality issue all the same. The screw at the front of the trigger guard is a phillips screw. The smaller screw at the rear of the trigger guard is posidrive. It's a general quality principle that all the fasteners in a product should be of the same type. Despite these issues, my Diana 34 is now a handsome and accurate air rifle which is a pleasure to use. I just felt surprised to have noticed so many issues in a product which seems generally to be viewed as an item of high quality.

This video convinced me to order this gun with open sights and the hornet pellets from pyramyd air this past spring when I got my stimulus payment and I'm very impressed with it. I don't get quite as tight of groups as this video shows because I'm using open sights and I'm shooting from about 20 yards but I can get 5 shots fired in a session to hit within a 2 or 3 inch center mass group. Plus I love how the hornets tear up a 1x4 pine wood board from 20 yards away. It is putting out about 13 to 15 foot pounds of energy and a velocity of about 600 to 650 feet per second so with the hornets it's a great 20 to 25 yard target shooter and small game hunter. It's ideal if you live in a suburban or urban residential neighborhood and you have a garden and you want to use your vegetables in rabbit stew instead of as rabbit food

I like the hornets for their accuracy and penetration and expansion. I used to use JSB domed 15.89 grain pellets and their accuracy was terrible. Although out of the Rws Diana 350 magnum .22 I used to have the JSB heavy diabolo 18.13 grain domed pellets worked great. With domed pellets I don't get as good of penetration as I get with the hornets. For example from 25 yards away with my Rws Diana model 34 classic .22 the domed 15.89 grain JSB pellets almost penetrate through 2 back to back thin plastic gallon water jugs but from the same distance with my gun shooting hornets they do fully penetrate through both jugs

I do like Diana air rifles but many require a droop compensating mount and the pellet loading hole in the breach is machined at an angle, if you don't use a pellet seating tool you may run the risk of damaging the pellet skirt when locking up the breach. I wish Diana would fix the barrel droop issue, when you and the droop mount the scope sits very high.

Now I’m using a Bushnell Banner 2 mounted to a spring loaded scope mount. I’ve tried every pellet on the market and I can’t get better than a 3” group at 100’. if your looking for a good springer the TX 200 is just an exceptional choice! Everything all in one package, so you never feel like you have to buy another air rifle with upgrades. The hunter carbine model in .22 is a good choice as it can push 16 FPE and possibly more with a good tune. Great for hunting as its pin point accurate and if you can hit the mark will take out any bird, rabbit or squirrel out to 50 yards ( I've seen farther kill shots). It definitely is not a cheap rifle and yes it is not the most powerful magnum springer on the market but it is capable of shooting the eye out of a rabbit at 50 yards providing the shooter is capable. It is also extremely beautiful and superbly built. One of the best springers in the world.

I would prefer something about just over16 footpounts and a 25cal so I can take not only head but chest shots as well. I saw review of the hatsan 95 in 25 cal and I think that this can be my next purchase. How about that dear friend? What's your opinion???
