If things go right this week, I'm going to go out and run 25 shells each of the Federal and the Remington. That aught to be sufficient to know for sure if they work or not.

The box the gun comes in says directly on it to use brass shells only. I had the exact same issue running winchester ammo through it. Part of the problem was a couple burrs on the extractor rod. smoothing those down helped a ton on dropping open all the way. I'll let you know how it goes when my brass hulls get here.

Run into this a few times myself with various firearms. My Ruger LCP hates Winchester ammo. Only time I've had an FTF in it was with Winchester. I originally thought that was cause they we're hollow points, but she feeds every other hollow point I've fed her. In that same box of Winchester I also had a thin primer. The firing pin actually pinched right through it.

This is the only gun I own that is picky about the ammunition I run through it. To be honest, I think this is the only shotgun I've run the Winchester through. My S&W SD40 will run Winchester FMJ all day long without a problem. My Model 94' will run Winchester ammo just fine, although it doesn't seem to do as well for accuracy.

I have had this same shotgun for several years. Mine had the same problem. What I found is that the extractor is see-sawing on the extractor pin. When you shoot the left barrel the thin cheap winchester head expands pushing the extractor down, then when you shoot the right barrel it pushes that side down and captures both shells. The fix for mine was to solder a thin shim on the bottom of the extractor so it is setting on the water table like it should.

I also had problems with winchester steel base shells I bought the same shotgun and on the box that it came in it said not to use steel base shells but I tried them and results as you had it also liked Remington shells my biggest gripe with the gun was the trigger pull was so stiff I took mine to a gun smith and got it fixed other than that I am happy with it

thanks for the info...quick question, other than the hangup from the Winchester and Federal ammo, any other problems with the gun thus far? I'm interested in this one for Cowboy action shooting. Thanks.

So far the cheap Winchester shells are the only ones that throw a fit. However, Winchester AA for trap shooting work well.

Excellent video as usual and one with results that I am going to keep in mind before purchasing a Cimmaron. On a side note of the "apples and oranges" verity, a gent that shops at one of the same local pawn and gun stores that I do, recently took delivery of a brand new lever action "reproduction" shotgun and discovered pretty quick that it does not like Winchester hulls! It will feed and extract Remington, Federal, and even the Mexican and Italian stuff with only the rare bobble, but for some reason Winchester brand shells/hulls are prone to causing problems in his particular shotgun. I know that this gentleman is getting ready to start shooting in Cowboy Action (again.... after three years away from the sport) and ordered the lever action to replace or supplement the double because of the extraction, or lack thereof, problem. I've been considering purchasing one or the other, if not both types of shotgun just for grins and chuckles but I don't care to spend that kind of money if I'm just going to have to send the guns back for repair or have a gunsmith of my choice do a bunch of polishing or whatever to get them to work properly. I may just buy one or the other and shoot the snot out of it and hope that whatever causes the extraction problems will "wear in" and make the shotgun work the way it is supposed to out of the box. Take care and keep the great videos coming!

I've had my eye on a lever-action shotgun for a while now. I handled one at a nearby store and the manager said a lot of the problem with them not cycling is the fact that it has such a long throw of the lever and people "short stroke" it. I did a little more research into it and found that most cases with jams are do to the fired hull being too long. When the crimp expands, it'll catch on the receiver damn near every time. I've not fired one, so I cannot say anything on ammo specifics, but in the event that I do get one I'll be sure to add the info from your comment. If you do decide to get one, all I can say is run the Remington stuff. It's like glass. I'm thinking about hitting the range here in the next couple of days and running a full box of Remington and Federal through it just to see if there are any flukes.

Thanks for the kind reply. Since I have never owned nor fired a lever action shotgun I to am left with only second hand information originating from the only two people I know (including the gentleman I mentioned in my earlier comment) who do own and have shot one, magazine articles and videos here on YT. I failed to mention the "short stroke" problem despite having been told about it, read about it, and of course seen it in videos. Those shotguns seem to have a lot in common, throw wise, with Sharps rifle actions especially those that handled the larger calibers. Don't give it enough throw and expect a jam or only partial extraction might be more accurate. As for Remington ammo, I've always been rather partial to it in both my rifles and shotguns over the last five or so decades. I don't know what they do to their shotgun hulls to make them so slick but whatever it is, it works, and has for many years.

I had similar problems with low brass Winchester shells in my 1897 pump not ejecting. My conclusion based on my findings and that of my local gunsmith is the rim thickness on the shotshells being they are aluminum , not brass and the ejectors/ extractors have a hard time on the small shallow rim. Other brands don't seem to have that problem.

It's not the extractors "hanging up". There is obviously a hangup involved, but the extractors are going to move back with the barrel opening. From what I could see, I would look at firing pin extrusion first. Since there are marks on the sides of the brass, I would look at the lot number of the shells. Something is causing over expansion. Don't know if the brass is too soft, or what, but problems with just one brand of ammo, makes the ammo suspect, before the gun.

I say extractors, what I was implying is the recess for the extractors inside the chambers. Its a pain doing videos when your brain thinks faster than you can talk so your mouth skips words to catch up.

Duke I got another question. Modern hand guns and long guns both have small crowns on the muzzle so I wonder would our colt and Remington benefit from one? The walker has it as do all my muzzleloader long guns so I wonder. Off the subject I know but that me

I just looked at my '51 and 61' Navies and they both have crowned barrels. My Pietta's aren't close by so I can't look at them to verify what they have. But yes, a crowned barrel is a must if you want consistency and accuracy.

Yes, it is exclusively through Cimarron Firearms and their distributors. These guns tend to run in the $600 USD range. This gun is more historically accurate than many of the hammered double-barrel guns out there.

Oh its a fairly decent gun quality wise. I've noticed on some of them that the buttplates don't line up proper and this one was the same. I just loosened the screws one day and pushed the buttplate into better position and it was fine. The are made in China by LJ precision if I remember correctly, and they run in the $500-$600 ball park. As long as you avoid the cheap Winchester ammo it should do alright.

DukeFrazierProductions right on. I have a 12ga cheap over under that I gave to my dad for home defense. It wasn't sticking, but since it doesn't have ejectors and I wanted it to be as smooth as possible for ease of reloading I honed out the chambers and polished them. Now the shells simply fall out when the action is cracked open. Fast as a double barrel can be. Have an awesome day sir!

I contacted Cimarron Arms and they even said their guns don't like the steel based shells. When you buy one nowadays from the store, they even say on the box brass shells only. But by the attitude of your comment, you already know everything there is to know about anything and everything so there really isn't any point in me responding. Also, clean up the language or be gone, this is a family friendly channel.
