His voice is magic. He was a writer but never wanted to perform live. He had a couple of great songs, then went back to writing. I recently read He just appeared with someone in concert.

He had some giganormous hits: Authurs Theme, Ride Like the Wind, Never be the Same, Another Page etc etc. His debut album was released in 1979 and won 5 Grammy awards! If you havn't heard Authors Theme then u r probably an alien from another planet. He was seriously ill with COVID a few years back but finally managed to beat it. He is currently touring. Great reaction guys, as always. Chod, ur r very lucky to be married to that princess sitting beside you.

What you were talking about in the video is actually what Cross has said in recent years. It’s about using imagination to step outside of a painful reality. When he was a teen he had a rough family life and a family friend would take him on a boat for a while and he would forget and just enjoy being around a more peaceful person. He actually doesn’t like sailing because it makes him sick. But the idea of it he still finds helpful to think about.

I also agree that “Think of Laura” is a great next song to review on your channel - like “Sailing” it too has a distinct vibe of it’s own - I also urge you to watch him do it “live”, as he is a very talented songwriter AND performer, and by that I mean he has the chops to make his live work sound like his studio versions - not a lot of today’s artists can say that about their hits

In 1970 a year out of high school he covered for an ill Ritchie Blackmore at a Deep Purple concert - so I think that answers the question if he can play guitar lol.

“ The canvas can do miracles, just you wait and see…” yes indeed, no truer words spoken, the just to see the ocean is therapeutic for me, much less actually being on a sailboat ⛵️ in the middle of it! He truly paints the picture! 🎨

Christopher is a very good guitar player, and played the outro solo on "Ride Like The Wind". (You have to crank up the volume to catch it.) 40+ years later and this song is still in my collection. So serene. Have a great day!

The song also won 1980 Grammy Awards for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Arrangement of the Year, and helped Cross win the Best New Artist award. VH1 named "Sailing" the most "softsational soft rock" song of all time.

Never Be The Same- Christopher Cross. Another great song by Chris mega popular from 1979. The Cowbell is used so soft and well in this song. Not many reactors react to this one love to see you guys check this song out.

1st dance at many weddings... Sadly, it was at my first wedding in '81. which did not last. Much better in '87 as I'm still married to this one! Still love the song for what it is not what it once meant... :)

This song was Christopher Cross' very first #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the summer of 1981. This song is the second of four Top 40 hits coming from his self-titled debut album back in 1980.

I remember when Christopher Cross's first album came out in 1979 & we all bought a copy. The whole album was good with one hit after another including "Ride Like The Wind", Sailing", "Never Be the Same", "Say You'll Be Mine" etc. He won 4 Grammy Awards for it. He released a 2nd album in 1983 with a few hits on it such as "Think Of Laura" & "All Right". But sadly after that his fame declined. Success came quickly, all at once & then suddenly faded. Too bad as he was very talented.

He was inspired by Joni Mitchell . She liked to use alternate tunings & had a few guitars around . He just played a few open strings and came up with the 3note basis for Sailing

Chris turned down gigs with Steely Dan when he engaged in a solo career. He is actually a very accomplished guitarist. Nobody who was anybody turned down Steely Dan in the late seventies, but this guy did. I think he made the right decision. He stands in his own with absolutely timeless classics.

Chris is a FANTASTIC guitar player. 🎸 Here’s a link for a live version of Ride Like the Wind with Michael McDonald. The magic starts at @ 5:00. kzread.info/dash/bejne/m42jyKaFYLTUcqg.html
