He isn't. Or people would still be talking about him and other comedians would mention him when they talk. They don't. He was one of the worst cast members on SNL too. I understand he brings some nostalgia for many of you, he just isn't the underrated comedy mastermind that you think he is.

@@dangerous8333that was a horrible season of SNL. They brought in big names like Elliot, Michael McKean, Garafalo and it was terrible and they basically got rid of everyone at the end of the season except for Meadows and Spade Get a Life was the funniest show in TV back when it aired and Cabin Boy is one of the 90s best comedies. Along with Clifford and Almost Heroes (not joking, I love those movies)
Wow, cool to see Paul Dooley. What a great character actor, and still alive in 2023!
Chris Elliott's characters on Dave's show were some of the best funniest moments!
Chris Elliot was so ahead of his time with this post ironic stuff. Thanks for the uploads.

Does that make the son-of-a-Bob a pre-chronic-post-ironic icon?
Mr. Giller, your channel is my favorite of all. Thank you for so much great content. I appreciate your diligent and detailed work.

Man i miss the 80's. What a great band. In the dorm common areas this was always on. Country was more unified then and it took talent to make it!
Thanks again, Don!! Just super!!!❤️❤️❤️💯💯💯
Love Chris on Schitts Creek too!
The traveling poet is Cabin Boy!!!
I was such a huge Letterman fan at this time and had a massive crush on Chris Elliott. 💕
Thank you again, these make my day (especially anything with Chrissypoo)
At 15:43, I completely lost it. Woof…. This may be the best skit I’ve ever seen with Chris Elliott. And that’s saying a lot. Absolutely hilarious.
'Traveling Poet' is one of his best skits EVER. lol

I always loved that little jump he does right before his overly deep bow.
Golden Globe Award Dave said on his very last show that Chris was his favorite
13:43 One of them fancy lads!
So hard to believe this compilation/this channel/this website/this internet exists! When these were actually airing, I was still relying on VHS tapes, via touring bands, the U.S. mail, and fellow tape-traders on my "route" like Rick Linklater, Phil Proctor*, George Wendt and the Butthole Surfers! *(of these, I know for certain all appeared with Dave apart maybe from Phil. Did the Firesign Theater ever appear on LN/tLS?)
Don is my hero I have all of these on vhs but I am afraid to see if they are still alive thank you for doing this
Cabin boy Is a sleeper .. have laughed at it Many times 😂
Definitely the most underrated person of the 90’s.

@@mjp96 I can remember when “Get a Life” (which I used to LOVE”) was dead last in the Neilson ratings my friends and I joked “You know,, I bet he likes being the lowest rated TV show” ha ha Unsure if today’s generation would get his style of comedy, but I’ve always loved him. I was 10 to 20 during the 89’s so I’m and 80’s fo sho.
This David Letterman catalogue over the years and all the sorting editing you do .. sort of want to know more about this Don Giller guy : )

I have the Porno, with that particular Musical "score", in it, on VHS, no less. "Gettin' Ready", i think it is. Many others, too, probably. Starring Peter North and Millions of dead/dying Spermatozoa.
Hard to believe Chris is in his 60s now.

Fun Fact! "Cabin Boy" is a Capricorn ("Sea Goat") and so am i (not that i am Bragging.) No wonder Chris Elliott described "Cabin Boy", as a "FantaSEA Adventure" and Chris Elliott could be described, as a "GOAT" (Greatest cabin boy Of All Time.)
- and all the lawyers got into one of their "goon huddles"... I forgot how much I love Chris Elliott. Now I'm going to have to watch Cabin Boy for the first time in a quarter century! Would you like to buy a monkey?
This dude is pure goof :D
Don and I are soulmates I have everything on vhs i don’t know how to put it onto the internet thank you
this may sound weird but Cabin Boy and Gummo were the only two movies i ever bought on DVD

Chris looked good here...the hairplugs finally ended up looking normal...and he had lost weight. I believe this was right before his SNL season.
Do you think there are Letterman reruns in heaven?
Could you imagine being married to that? His wife must be a saint.
wow, paul dooley spoofing petrified forest, ultimately not one of elliott's funniest bits in my view, but a cool cultural artifact nonetheless
That first Chris Elliot film must be Dylan M.'s inspiration for his shtick.
Did Dave know what Chris was up to at any point? Like was he in on the jokes...like did he know what the movies had in them already.

To this very day my wife hasn't forgiven me for dragging her to this movie! Now when I suggest a movie she just responds Cabin Boy! Im glad she forgot i also dragged her to see BeverlyHills Ninja!
Love Chris, but the longer skits like that go, the more they start to lose their comedic value. I hate to say it, and it's only my opinion, but not funny.
elliott goes as deep into these skits as deniro did in raging bull or brando in apocalypse now
Get a Life....with a theme song by REM, how could that show not be a gem.
