Chris Cornell, "I Will Always Love You" LIVE, Multi-Angle, Masonic Auditorium, Feb 16, 2012
Ойын-сауық
From the Obama fundraiser at the Masonic Auditorium in San Francisco, CA, February 16, 2012.
I found the different angles here on KZread and pieced them together. Many thanks to the KZreadr's whose videos I used; including... concertkid2 (audio also), julissa321, srscanlan, matthewalb, yar1960, theShivaTV, and rishirich5.

What gets lost in this over time because it’s such a great performance is that he performed this just days after Whitney Houston died. That’s why you hear the instant acknowledgment from the crowd. There was no fan fare, no announcement of a tribute, just this heartfelt nod to another great singer. This gets me emotional every time.

I love that this performance is imperfect. It’s just a lovely person playing a song for another lovely person, living in a moment with disregard for scrutiny or reputation, heart and soul, devoid of commerce or ulterior motives. He was one of a kind 🤍

The same can be said about Norah Jones' performance of Black Hole Sun in Detroit. Both are beautiful renditions
I listened to this song the night Chris died. I cried like a baby for about 20 minutes. Chris has meant a lot to my life. I have seen him live several times with his different bands. The last time was last year for his acoustic show. I was wearing a soundgarden shirt, and he pointed me out in the audience and said cool t shirt! I will cherish that tiny piece of personal interaction forever. The voice of a generation. Gone too soon. Love from New Zealand.

Man! He has a talent for creating on the spot. Wild vocals with anyone's lyrics including his own. One of his songs was whispered into a tape recorded when he was drunk after a party! Lmao.
The night before my husband died in a horrible car crash just minutes from home, I was listening to nothing compares to you. He asked if I had heard Chris’s version. He was a huge fan…I had not, he played it for me and we sang along quietly then went to bed. This video, others by Chris, interviews, all sorts of tid bits always to do with Chris continually pop into my life on a daily basis, tv, radio, in a store, just everywhere. I am positive they are signs from my love.

It's extremely tragic, and heart breaking. But it makes this so piercing. Gorgeous. At the same time, it's so heartbreaking. Its hard to listen to him sometimes because he has a way of compelling emotion. You can feel his raw anguish and quiet desperation in his music.. And to know how hopeless and tortured he was breaks my heart. There are countless others right now that feel that same isolated despair
Wherever he has gone, the music is free, and I miss him dearly. Thank you Chris
I was at this show and it was one amazing song after another. Very few people can pull off playing solo and completely stripped down like this. And fewer still can do it this well. Very sorry that he is gone, but very glad that I got to see him perform. One of the great voices of all time.

@Simple Man Vince Gill does a beautiful rendition of this song himself. And Vince also did this song as a duet with Dolly Parton, the country music legend who actually wrote this beautiful, heartbreaking ballad. Both versions are worth checking out. If this was indeed Chris's tribute to Whitney Houston, I'm so very glad he did NOT over sing the chorus the way Whitney did, almost murdering the song for me. Subtle works so much better on this song and Whitney's version was the complete bombastic polar opposite of subtle.

Speaking of Kurt... been watching his live performance of Lake of Fire a lot lately. I know he's not the original writer for it but most of us think of him with that song. But the lyrics for Lake of Fire have been driving me crazy lately, and always had the hunch that he played it for a reason. The part that says "they (bad people) go to a lake of fire and fry...won't see em again til the 4th of July"... what does that mean??? Who will we see on the 4th of July, and what year?? Kurt just strikes me as the type of guy who would hint something cryptic like that... ...could be nothing, could be something, who knows.

Jason Heavner I prefer Dolly's over Whitney Houston's. I like Chris Cornell's but this isn't the best recording. All 3 are great.

agree-by FAR prefer the one 's version of who wrote this classic tune , Dolly, over Whitney's version. Chris does quite a good job on it as well.
So sorry i didn't get to see Chris live. What a special gift/voice he had! RIP Chris! 😣

I heard some of Soundgarden and thought he was ok. I have heard more of his stuff recently and was blown away.
Its hard to believe that's its been three years since we lost him. He had such a beautiful voice and versatility. We will always love you Chris. Hopefully you've found an inner piece that life couldn't provide for you.

I was looking for a tribute to Chris and found this. This is a gift.

Kris Johnson I imagine the jam session on eternal life song on Grace album w Chris amd Jeff ..bad ass
Just found this. He was my angel on 1/8/2024. He came to stand beside me when I was put into a torture device in jail, and an hour into it, when I was losing consciousness, he told me to pray and that he would be with me until the corrections people let me free, and he was. I went into psychosis for a few months after, and he watched over me, but now I don't think I will be seeing him anymore. You are my angel, and I still have suicidal ideation, he has lessened it considerably. They need to do better in our institutions when dealing with mental health. It's infuriating how these "professionals" don't listen and do these inhumane things which only make things worse. Thank you Chris. Until we meet again. RIP
OMG...1st time I ever cried to this song. CC just rips my heart out.

me too. and in a different way this song has ever made me feel. hurt from loved lost, our loves ones lost, but never as someone who sang it and went onto take their own life. the 15th was 18 years since I lose my Uncle to suicide. and when I heard about Chris is just brought back a flood of emotions about my Uncle. I would have never thought of it as that kind of goodbye song until now. and it breaks my heart. didn't know that song's lyrics could make me feel more emotional, but now I'll never hear it and not think of Chris, and all those we lose to suicide everyday. may they all rest and finally find true peace forever.

Thank you +Ethan Butler. I always give credit where credit is due.
Numerous amazing musicians have covered this since it's release in 74..And they've covered it beautifully...However none were able to capture the soul quite like the lovely woman who wrote it, Dolly Parton. Until now. ..I seriously just cried. I'm not even familiar with Chris Cornell and i'm not sure how i got here..but damn. I'm glad I did. Bravo dude. brah-fuckin-vo..*slow clap* I was in a totally breezy happy mood..and now my heart physically hurts. ....I'm going to have to listen to it again

Carly S me too gal, every single mornin, all day long, till the night comes on into the dawning of the new day comes, when I start it all over again with him...I absolutely looove this man sooo much, that there's literally no way to express with words, just exactly how much that I do love him so...Sadly,I'm now also pretty much wrapped up with Chester Bennington too,SMH!!!as if my heart wasn't broken into infinity pieces already, well now,I'm heartbroken to the core,to say the least&that's an understatement in itself as well...I absolutely can't stop myself from this,no matter how much that it hurts me to do so,I won't stop listening to him&Chester...I just can't,for I love them, their music&their most astonishing, outstanding, phenomenal, beautiful angelic voices that are truly out of this world, simply waaay too much&there's no way possible that I could ever stop..when I hear a song,or watch a performance of one these two truly most talented, gifted, wonderful, beautiful men,it's just sooo completely heartbreaking&utterly gut wrenching to me&the fact of knowing that they're literally no longer here with us,hurts me sooo deeply...but,thanx to the media outlets that we have available to us,such as You Tube&Spotify,we're able to get to listen to&view these wonderful performances from the both of them,NON STOP!!!I'm truly sooo appreciative for these things too,it means the world to me,cause sadly without them, well then,we'd not be able to C or hear ANYTHING from him&Chester EVER again...I wanna tell ya just exactly how much that I agree with you, about how that it's truly the ones like "us",whom will keep his&with me,Chester's as well, legacy goin on throughout, for ALL to know&remember who's the BEST OF THE BEST///then,now till 4/EVER&ETERNITY!!!MAY LOVE&PEACE B WITH U&YOURS CARLY,NOW,4/E&A*** #RIPCHRISACHESTER2L2G4E #IWALYGBNF #FIMHAOMM 😍👌🏻❤️🎶🎤🎸
