Chinese Leather Shoe Patcher : winding bobbins with a power drill 中國補鞋機 : 用電鑽繞梭芯

Winding the small bobbins is never a pleasing task for users no matter how long and how deep experienced you are. Without any shortcuts, you need to twist the thread round by round by turning the hand-cranked winder. Although not pleasing, you cannot sew without bobbins. To lessen the painful feeling of winding, I have been using a cordless power drill to help. The materials needed for this project is just a power drill while the shaft and nut are disassembled from the original bobbin winder.

Excellent well done video. I have already replaced my bobbin winder with the power drill version. Bravo

Bit of blue tach to hold the thread- genius! I've been tying mine onto the bobbin, works OK(iss), but is on hey of a fiddly job to remove when you need to refill the bobbin. Must get some blu tack- in the meantime I think ill try a bit of masking tape.

did you make the alluminum thread adjuster knob ? the ones that came with my machine make even the smallest of thread to tight even when backed all the way ot? i noticed your knob thinking you had the same problem?

The thumb knob was bought separately just for adjusting the tension more easily and comfortably. The original knob can do tension adjustment but by turning more rounds than this. Also this stainless thumb knob looks more professional. The tension mechanism of the patcher works even you just pass the thread along the rails and discs without tightening the knob. This is because friction created when the thread pass through the rails and discs. So don't think too much on the tension knob. If you found the tension is too tight, see whether there are anything blocking the way the thread passing through such as the twists bouncing out from the spool, the jamping of thread along all the spring, holes and rails. This is a simple machine which means it is very easy to find out the problems yourself.

Bought them from Taobao- a Chinese e-shopping platform. You can also buy from the Aliexpress, a seller selling them. The link is as below: www.aliexpress.com/item/32723451874.html?fbclid=IwAR3etS0zVgz51oEnOtflxH6DITyuXSFkL78aFcUNOUV2-oScMifRM8p4X0I

The only thing peolpe have to do is fix the dam winder .I repaired mine in about 15 min, I got a new screw same length ground a nice long tapper two new nuts .Then i drilled a hole in the bobbin for the thread to get tight in the tapper that holds the end and use it like it should work .

Drilling a hole in the bobbin to fix the thread from moving is a good method. My idea suggested in the video is for those without drilling holes can get the same effect of stopping the thread from moving with a little blue tack.
