CHINESE LEATHER SEWING MACHINE BOBBIN CHOICES | CHINESE SHOE PATCHER | BOBBIN | CLSP

This shows alternate bobbin choices for the popular Chinese made leather shoe patcher sewing machine. You no longer have to use the original bobbin and shuttle hook. The singer 8603 shuttle hook and small bobbins will work well. I bought one shuttle hook along with 10 bobbins for a very low price.
Watch my other video to see some of the modifications I made to my machine to make it sew much better: / oawl

IDEA CHALLENGE: Instead of re-winding bobbins, I think if you drilled a hole in the right spot, you could feed thread from a full spool on to the bobbin, wrap it around the bobbin a few times and then on to wherever it goes. What do you think?

It would not work. The bobbin rotates to pick up the thread which then goes around the top and bottom of the bobbin to make the stitch. It would be nice not to have to rewind bobbins but there is no choice.

    Where to oil,?

I use bar and chain oil because it is so thick. I put oil in the holes on the articuating arms, also on the needle holder, the bobbin assembly, the pitman arm, the crank bearings. I use anti sieze with graphite on the back side of the crank, on the cam and also on the lift lever. It took a lot of work to get the machine tuned. My pitman arm was bent when I got the machine new. I had to take the machine apart, heat the pitman arm with a torch and carefully hammer it so it became straight. It was a slow process of heating and hammering repeatedly.

Question: Will the tension spring and screw threads of the singer shuttle fit and function in the shoe patcher shuttle? Thanks

No. The spring on the singer shuttle is too long and will cause the chinese shuttle to bind up. I bought a set of 2 springs and screws specifically made for the chinese shuttle on EBAY for $7.03. Later i found a set of parts for the chinese machine that had 2 bobbin cases with the screw and spring, 2 bobbins, 1 bobbin case carrier (the piece with the little gear on the bottom) and a top link and a spare bobbin winder for only $9.99. Its called the PUMPLUS Store on AMAZON. No need to use the singer bobbin case.

@@MIKEMAKESTHINGS There is another source of binding up. The hump under the singer shuttle hook can push up against the shuttle carrier and cause the shuttle to rub up against the wall at the needle location, putting the shuttle in a bind. . This was the case with 3 out of 4 of my shuttle carriers. The solution is to file off about 0.5 mm to shorten the hump. You can see in your video how close the shuttle comes to the wall at the needle location. Bind up happens if either the hump is too high or the shuttle carrier bends in too far toward the hump. Without the filing adjustment the shuttle tension spring can also get snagged and bent when a strong thread gets caught in the bind and pushed into the point of the tension spring--happened to me. Once filed down the singer shuttle and bobbins are very nice to use, so many thanks for making this video.

Thank you for watching and your feed back. I now have 3 of these machines. I got 2 from Amazon for just $35 as customer returns. They had everything plus had a leather tool pack included. Crazy for just $35. I could not pass it up. Now have them set up with different needles and threads. I will be doing a give away on some 3D printed mods soon.

@@richardkerns7978 Yes, of course. The mods make all the difference. When I got my first machine the pitman bar was bent. With a lot of care I fixed it. Was afraid to bang on it because its cast iron. Used a torch first.

I have 3 machines and it worked on 2 of them have not unpacked the 3rd. I found a cheap source of the originals on Amazon but they needed a lot of sanding. Check Pumplus Store, attachment kit for beamnova leather cobbler sewing machine. 7 piece kit for $18. I had some problems at first with the bobbin carrier locking up. After a bunch of sanding and oil it works fine. BTW I'm doing a free accessories giveaway. You may be interested. It will help the machine function better. It may be your thread. I use the singer bobbin and carrier with #69 thread and it works just fine. I tried heavier thread with both bobbins but it bound up. I use antisieze compound on my bobbin carrier and bobbin carrier holder.

These machines are very rough to say the least. I've done a lot of cleaning, sanding and polishing to make it run right. The major thing that will mess up you stitches in the bobbin position. Make sure that with the handle at the 12 O clock position that your bobbin carrier is at the 3 O clock position. I also keep my maching well oiled with synthetic oil.
