Since I discovered this channel its been a great way to watch DCS while not being able to play to this extent, I'm going to go out on a limb and ask if a video of the F/A 18 vs a J-20 would be feasible. BVR or Fox-2 fight would be cool.

F35 is good for one turn. Better AoA than the hornet, for the first turn only. Then it loses its speed, can’t gain it back, and gets smoked.

"But if you do what the jet is really good at, you can do things those other jets wouldn’t dream of." I believe that the F-35C would have a great chance of winning. In GS's most recent F-35 video it got a 2:1 kill ratio on a MiG-29 (The MiG-29 has maneuverability comparable to a Hornet). Plus, F-35 pilots say it can point its nose at the enemy as well or better than the Hornet.

Are you fighting the J20 with bags on? Okay you dropped them. Dude you are a legend.

The purpose of the J20 is to get close to critical aircraft such as Air Refuellers, AWACS, and other critical assets. It's not meant to be a dog fighter since it lacks a gun. That's what the J15 Flying Sharks are for.

That is actually a myth by those who don't know much about aircraft and assume so simply by estimated size. We only confirmed a couple years ago that it is in fact smaller than a Flanker when we thought it was bigger for the first several years. Aerodynamic models have estimated that the J-20 can in fact be incredibly agile with excellent nose control (we wouldn't know unless we have the real thing). Dog fighting is not it's primary role but it is an air superiority fighter. It isn't an "interceptor" or "sniper" that civilians in the West have coined for it. Lectures in Chinese military academies have all clearly presented the J-20 to be used as an air superiority fighter. Otherwise, it wouldn't have internal PL-10 bays.

I think I noticed something at 12:33 - 12:35. While you two were in the merger and you dropped the tanks, he got a missile off. I think the missile either locked onto the chaff or the ejected tanks.

The island and the ship gave a clearer sense of where everyone was as this thing unfolded.

That is the thing with stealth: A larger radar will see the aircraft and a modern SAM will not have to guide the missile all the way. A modern radar guided missile should not be hindered by flying in ground clutter as there will be enough doppler signal. Stealth will help against the missile homing but only at select angles.

Hey GS just wanted to say I love the guns only stuff! But I feel like the F-16 is the perfect contender for the SU-47 Berkut. The F-16 being intentionally unstable and the Berkut being a good at slow speed... Should be a good match for both! 😁

Overall, the F-16 has impressed me the most, and as you pointed out, it always excels at a majority of mission sets and built to be a dog fighter and does it well. If I had to pick one, it would be the F-16. But, if I didn't have to pick, I love them all, quirks and all. ;-)

This matchup reminds me of the early-model F-4 Phantoms vs the MiG-21 over Vietnam; if the MiGs could close to dogfighting range of the Phantoms, they had all the advantage since they had guns and the F-4's didn't, just like how the F-16 has a gun and the J-20 doesn't. Both the early Phantoms and the J-20 were meant to be missile trucks, not dogfighters.
