“China was really angry” | The last governor of Hong Kong Chris Patten meets Matt Frei (Part 1)

The last British governor of Hong Kong joined How To Academy to share unprecedented insights into negotiating with the Chinese government and reflect on the new superpower’s role on the world stage.
Chris Patten is Chancellor of Oxford University. When MP for Bath (1979-92) he served as Minister for Overseas Development, Secretary of State for the Environment and Chairman of the Conservative Party. He was Governor of Hong Kong from 1992 until 1997, Chairman for the Independent Commission on Policing after the Good Friday Agreement in 1998 and European Commissioner for External Relations from 1999 until 2004. The Observer has described him as ‘the best Tory Prime Minister we never had’. On KZread, Christopher has been featured on LBX, BBC News, ITV News, professor tim Wilson, Tortoise and Hong Kong Watch.
Matt Frei is Europe Editor and Presenter at Channel 4 News. This year he has led the Channel 4 News coverage of events in Ukraine from the crash site of Malaysia flight MH17, to the tensions in Crimea and reported live from Independence Square on Kiev’s bloodiest day. He has also secured major interviews with Bill Clinton, George W Bush and Aung San Suu Kyi. On KZread, he has featured on videos on Why Germany has a moral dilemma over Ukraine, hosted LBC, and many others.

    I met Chris Patten several times during my time in Hong Kong, thought him to be a most wonderful man. Miss Hong Kong as it was and miss Chris running the show.

    Hong-Kong people all loved him. China gov hated him. Why don't you have Chinese subtitles this may people can read instead of the misunderstood.

    Chris' aspirations to represent local HKers ought to have asked us, however, I do not recall being asked. I reckonmost of the locals whom escaped from One Party would preferred Independence, similar to Singapore.
