Chili Oil Taste Test & Review | We Tried 8 Different Kinds
We love chili oil and figure it was time to do a chili oil taste test!
**NEW VIDEO ON OUR CHILI CRISP TASTE TEST & REVIEW HERE! - • Chili Crisp Taste Test... **
We purchased all of these at our local 99 Ranch Market.
Our preference is that we typically like things higher up on the spicy scale.
We also like very versatile chili oils that go well with lots of things (e.g. Sriracha & Sambal etc).
It was a great and fun experiment but the ultimate winner is definitely Chiu Chow Chlii Oil which is the best store-bought Chinese Chili Oil.
You can find it here on Amazon for quite a bit of a markup if you don't have a Chinese market near you - www.amazon.com/Lee-Chiu-Chow-...
Chili Oil also goes extremely well with hot-pot and you can watch our video on how to make hot pot at home here! - • Simple Hot Pot At Home...

Thanks to the recommendations, we've got a new video up to help you decide which Chili Crisp is the best for you! - kzread.info/dash/bejne/jJOemJKilNiunco.html
As a white guy, thank you for navigating me through this world. I recently just purchased my first jar of Chili Crisp - followed shortly by Chiu Chow Chili Oil... and wow, I can't believe I have gone my entire life without these condiments.
The video I’ve been waiting for finally a channel who tries things most people have access to. Just bought the chiu chow because of this video and I am obsessed . I don’t imagine it can get better than this when it comes to jarred chili oils 😬 thank you!!!

That makes us so happy that you took the time to take our suggestion for the Chiu Chow Chili Oil! Thanks so much for watching!
Thanks for that I’ve wondered which kind to get
Thanks for this video! I’ve been trying to find the best chili oil without buying a bunch and the Lee Kim Chiu Chow and Lao Gan Ma were both on my list! Now I know!!
i agree guys ! up here in canada i buy chiu chow at walmart for around 5.49 a bottle… i usually buy 10 at a time ! thanks for the reviews !
This was helpful…thank you
Pine and Crane restaurant in LA make their own and sell in a jar. not so spicy but really good flavor. great video!

We love that Chiu Chow Chili oil is getting so much love!! But also, it’s been sold out the last couple times we went to the market, 🤔lol
I don't know which I had before the Oomame Szechuan chili crisp, but oh, I do love it. I love the bits and pieces of ginger and fermented black beans, so each bite is a little bit different. I poured it over cream cheese and spread it on crackers and drank dry red wine with it. Spectacular! Also, I ate half a jar of extra spicy Fly by Jing when I had a sinus infection. SO very good at clearing my sinuses, but my poor tummy was a mess from eating half of a jar in one day. I also got a jar of something cheap at Target, but I can't remember the brand. It was crunchy, but bland, so very bland, and had no Szechuan peppercorns in it. No point! I had that jar in a meal or two. I haven't had momofuku yet but heard it was overrated.
Thanks your video help me out this morning. I went to the store & got the Lee Kum Kee chili oil

Chiu Chow Chili Oil from Lee Kum Kee is easily the best for me.
Try the Thai "Fried Cilli Paste" from Por Kwan
You guys have such a good choice, where I live its difficult just to get chui chow chilli oil....so I just make my own......

@@PeterLisaKimthe Chiu Chow Chilli Oil turned up but I don't really like it, it's way too salty, the chilli isn't that crisp and the flavour isn't as nice as the other two I've tried. I guess everyone's got different tastes and It's good to try new ones so thank you. My fave is Zhongjing Chengdu red oil (medium strength), this was translated from the bottle using an app so not sure if that's what it really says. It has a panda on the front. I can only find it in a Chinese store in the suburb of my nearest city (UK), which isn't convenient to get to but I'll have to go back just for that

@@kbcecc aah that's unfortunate! We're in the process of creating reviews that covers details on the savory/spice scale as well as alternatives. We're so used to having our food way up on the savory side, we didn't even think of this one as salty. We're going to try and track down the Zhongjing one you mentioned. We're very intrigued now, thank you!!
Do you have any recs for chili oils that are not incredibly spicy? How would you rate the spiciness of the last one?
Nice
Lee kum kee is my favorite here in UK
Just bought my first jar of CC chili oil and YUM! So good! Did you finish all the jars in this video? Lol

Yay! We’re so happy you liked the Chiu Chow Chili Oil!! We have a couple left (the ones we didnt really like lol).
Check out Okazu Spicy Chili Miso! My fav.
I also don't think Lao Gan Ma's Fried Chili in OIl is at all spicy (Guizhou vs Sichuan). That said; I do think it blends very well with more spicy and more complex chili oils, and I respect that characteristic. I think it's very useful to have a less mild carrier chili oil to tone down other chili oils when necessary.
Fly by Jing.. it’s the best!

Stay tuned, we're excited to try it for the first time thanks to everyone's recommendation 😀🔥
We have always used "Lan Chi" brand chili oil, but haven't been able to find it for many years. Are you familiar with that brand and how does it compare to the Lee Kum Kee?

Hi. As far as I know, Lan Chi chili paste is no longer available. Our very last jar is from 2014! We've used it very sparingly. (Yes, we've kept it refrigerated). LOL. I could send you a picture of the jar (if I knew how to do it via KZread).
I thought I liked Lao Gan Ma chili crisp, but when I try it now it just isnt spicy enough at all. It tastes only like bitter burnt onions to me. Looking forward to trying the Lee Kum Kee - Chiu Chow Chili Oil.

Agreed! The Chiu Chow one isn't high on the spicy scale but it really does have the most flavor overall in our opinion.
I live for spicy
So I’m shopping for the lee Kum kee chiu chow style chili oil. But when I go look for it online I find the same exact looking bottle but it doesn’t say style. the bottle says chiu chow chili oil. Is it the same thing if it doesn’t have “style” on the bottle.
@PeterLisaKim
Жыл бұрын
Just did a bit of googling and found they have two diff looking labels for the chiu chow chili oil, but I think it should be the same. That’s odd, I’ve never seen the one without “style” on the bottle.

@@PeterLisaKim thanks for the quick reply. So you did see the same bottle I was talking about. If I were to buy one chili oil/crisp that has spice and flavor would it be this lee Kum kee? Or do you recommend another one?
@PeterLisaKim

@@Savsal12 I would recommend the one with the chili picture on it because I’ve never had the other one. Try buying it on Yamibuy.com or Walmart.com! It’s about $5 a bottle.
Lee kum kee👌👌👌👌
What would be the best one that excludes a strong anchovie taste. Im fine with a little but the Lao Gan Ma just taste str8 up fish to me.
@PeterLisaKim

This is an interesting question because the ones we tried didn't give us a sense that it tasted fishy or have any anchovy flavor. 🤔 But we'll go with our Chiu Chow Chili Oil recommendation 😀

Yesssss!! We’ve had this one before, it goes soooo well with Japanese curry!
Uh so of course the Lao Gan Ma isn’t as spicy because Guizhou 油辣椒 are typically made with a milder chili variety than Sichuanese 油辣子, which uses hotter chilis. You aren’t comparing apples to apples in this regard because they are two different kinds of products that are made quite differently from each other.
