Lots of thoughts raced through my mind during and after observing Kimi and Kayzer's 1st hunt. They are 10 months old here. But for the viewers, I hope this is educational and not too disturbing. I typically show the lighter closeup side of captive cheetah life, but this video shows what happens 'real time' when predators satisfy their own instinct of hunger rather than giving food in a bowl already prepared. It's really the spectrum opposite for most of us. I pick out my turkey in the grocer and have never seen the process from beginning to end and how it gets there. But this is my goal for my captive cheetah breeding and rewilding project. Preparing them and educating me to save the cheetah from extinction.

I totally agree, this video was an amazing real life scenario that shows just how dangerous hunting is, as well as such a battle between predator and prey! As well as how amazing cheetahs have to be at being a perfect hunting machine. And last but not least, a taste of how brutal cheetahs lives are in the wild. Kaizer’s determination really shone through here. I think when Auntie Kiara tired out and the Blesbok took off, it really tickled that “hunt” instinct in him and Kimi; which was a good thing for their integration/training process. Almost like Auntie Kiara was like, “Well, they gotta learn at some point. Let ‘em chase it.” 😅 Thank you for all you are doing to help save the Cheetah population ❤ 🐆

@@CheetahWhisperer You are the man! Fantastic video of how wild animals can still have a chance. All we have to do is now VACATE this planet and they wouldn't even need the Dolph's of the world. We'd all miss you mate but the wildlife I reckon would care less... You face an uphill battle sir because as long as there is NO monetary return for what you do, we just keep eating domesticated animals with a nice tossed salad or vegetables. Sad but 100% true!

You can really tell from a distance how effective their spotted coat is at breaking profile. Really great camouflage 😍😍😍

Imagine how insecure and helpless they are our there in the wild on the ground while mom hunts for them for milk and meat. No wonder not many survive in the wild. Takes 6.months before cubs are fast enough to avoid predators like lions, leopards and hyenas.

Yeah. They'd be very anxious and would be trying to make themselves as small and hard to see as possible while waiting for mom.

What a privilege being able to watch them hunt and fight from such a closeup view. Looks like the 2 still have some learning to do, but i bet auntie Kiara will be a good teacher 🥰 This video is better than any documentary i've ever seen on this topic.

I'm grateful that the cubs are learning. Hunting and taking down prey is dangerous work and i'm glad the cubs and their auntie were not hurt. It's so important that the cubs learn how to hunt! Very happy that Gabriel and the other cheetahs got to enjoy some of the food too!

So glad you watched most or all of the video! Even Gabriel sharing in the bounty. And yeah my greatest concern for them is getting injured. If released into wild, I can't help them. We would have an agreement to give vet care if injured but we can't always monitor them when released. Every meal gathered and minutes of life in the wild is hazardous.

I like that you take a more hands on approach to protecting them and getting them ready for the wild. Seeing their growth is amazing especially just coming from the video where they were 4 days old. I hope things continue to work out.

It's really needed in my opinion. Look what is happening to the cheetahs in India. They are all wild and now 7 have died in 5 months. They get better care overall with interactive care and it is safer. You can STILL save the species and do rewilding... Just better.

@@CheetahWhisperer so many conservationists and wildlife rehabilitation experts I’ve heard from have always said constant human contact creates a potentially dangerous level of comfort with humans and exposes those animals to more human borne threats. I was curious about what you think about that. Obviously they are getting well socialized with other members of their species but they are also comfortable with you.

@@officiallyneverhere9048 Depends on where you rewild them. Most releases of cheetahs are in reserves with no humans except maybe paying game drivers in buckeys like you see in Kruger. No human interaction except if they are injured or sick, then most agreements are they get care.

@@CheetahWhisperer sounds good to me, especially for a threatened or endangered species. Human care and protection sometimes doubles animal lifespan while keeping them in a natural setting allows them to maintain their instincts and prey drive. 👍🏻

Great content Dolph, I was very concerned for the cheetah at the head end of that buck, those horns are pretty fearsome. They dont see us as food and they obviously trust you guys to tolerate you around them during the hunt, but you were definitely being warned off when you got too close, was he growling too?

Seems like cheetahs have this narrow chest cavity so they can fit between the horns of their prey!

they grow too fast.... well, not really, but it's like seeing them "adulting" after just 10 months of being born... you did great to hel educate them, they did great too, but mostly I think auntie Kiara did the best job being a step mom and all

Glad you enjoyed it! This is the main reason I got into cheetah conservation. Well, the 3rd step. Get some cheetahs for breeding, birth of cubs, train then for hunting and release and then eventually release some to the wild. Guess that's 5 steps and I'm on 4th. This video is not the cuddly interactive kind I normally do but plan on a 2nd channel focused on daily conservation activity with sensitive subjects like breeding and rewilding.

I love this trying so so hard to give these incredible predators a wild experience. even the rescued ones that would no longer make it in the wild due to injury join in the fruits of the wild hunt. as disabled predators, they still have an important enough job of bridging the gap between man and beast.

Yeah... even the disabled.ones still have the heart of a predator and can't really experience it. Poor Abi can't teach her cubs anything beyond her weening time. So Aunti Kiara steps in.

@@deandewilde4658 poor Kimi needs something more tame to hunt like a baby impala to gain confidence and skills. It is what cheetah moms do. Bring them a live prey baby to learn how to Hunt and kill. I won't do that, but will help her target a young one.

I know the owner of Kayzer is thinking release one day, and I need Kimi a breeder for now but maybe I release her too later in life after bearing cubs. She has to prove she can do it. She would have failed if not for Kiara and her brother Kayzer.

If I ever manage wildlife as prey animals, I could not tame them or name them because I'd get attached. But the game on this reserve are owned by the reserve owner and used for tours and hunting. We inform them when we want to take the cheetahs out for them to hunt so we don't cross. When I own my own reserve property with wildlife, no human hunters will be allowed. Only sanctioned hunters I need for my cheetahs food, like zebra which I wont let the cheetahs hunt for safety sake. The wildlife do need some.tending. sometimes there is sparse food and need feeding troughs throughout and maintain the water dams and use a tick medicine 💊 installed on the troughs so when they feed, they spread the tick salve on themselves.

It's so essential for these potential tially releasable cubs and cheetahs to practice hunts before release. Not all get release for various reasons, but even the non releasable can hunt if they are well and able enough. It costs a lot, about $200 for even the small game so budgeting is important.

Very glad you enjoy the videos. I wish I could do more and often. I am not at this project most of the year. I work on another continent to afford their care and it makes me tired and not enthused to make videos every week. I can't do it. I do everything from the recording to the final video. When I'm retired, I will make one video per week as I'll have time. Next one will be an update on Kimi and Kayzer. I'm sick now with a cold and when this is over, I'll work on it. Glad your a fan.

Me too. I hope Abi shows interest within the next year. She will leave her cubs and probably come into heat again. One last time for her then I will retire her from all motherhood for her good health.

I know... It's worse than a human parent letting go of their teenagers. The world these cheetahs have to live is a lot more hazardous and uncertain but I won't let any go-to a place that is not safest possible and free of large predators that could kill them. Super Thx for the Super contribution. Food bills are up now. We bought 150kg of zebra at $7 per 3kg a meal average. It's doubled.

Visit www.runningwildconservatuon.org and schedule a volunteer work visit. One week or long ad your visa holds our and room. Hunts are random but happen maybe once a month. You can come with and observe. North of Joberg about 1.5 hours.

No...lions. In fact NONE of my cheeahs will ever be allowed released with lions or hyenas around. It's harder to keep leopards out. I'll vet every place before I rewild my cheetahs.

@@robertsole9970 Na, not worried. When cheetahs are released, it's a vetted place. Typically a LARGE game reserve and not just let loose... they are kept in what's called boma, smaller LARGE enclosure in the game reserve, and observed, often given the prey they would be hunting as food, then observed throughout their lives and brought in if not doing well or injured. Paying tour guides will take folks to see them. Some cheetahs have tracking devices on them. But, even with WILD cheetahs, they come to tour trucks, climb on and inside.

I was worried because I saw what happened to Hosana the leopard that got used to guides and people, then apparently on a bush walk he was going to go after a guide/protector and they had to kill him. Back here in America it’s always a bad outcome when our bears or wolves get used to people and then a bad interaction or event and the animal is killed. But I suppose Cheetahs generally don’t go after people they don’t know. They run away.

@@robertsole9970 Yup... Cheetahs run or come close but don't attack. Leopards are FAR more dangerous and unpredictable and aggressive. Killed 1000s of people. Cheetahs have only killed 5.

Yeah... She can't teach the cubs anything else... Just continued love. She lives with then still but not as needy about them now. Unlike when they were lil cubs.

I realize it's necessary for the cheetah cubs to learn hunting skills but I still feel bad for that poor Blesbok having to suffer though this hunting lesson:(

Male cheetahs form coalitions with brothers (or lone ones team up). Females are solitary except as cubs or raising cubs. After mating, they go their separate ways.

@@4NAX_1 Not at Cheetah Experiece anymore. This is at Running Wild Conservation. www.runningwildconservation.org They have a vollie program but it costs and in South Africa. We get to interact with some of the cheetahs and I made it a request for Kimi so she can be tamed. They hand feed her at my request. I need her tame so other projects can handle her if she becomes a breeder on loan.

Yeah... I can empathize. Imagine out there living a life on the reserve and all sudden a predator runs out of nowhere and you can't out run it and it gets you. A nightmare for sure for that blesbok. Like I said, I don't take it lightly about the hunt but it's necessary if I want to release cheetahs. A world where something does not prey on something else just doesn't exist on this earth. It happens in our front porch with spiders or ants. But I recognize the nature of it. Thanks for watching and always care...

Nah... the project owners didn't want it shown. It was with a knife to the throat like culling. A gun shot would damage the ears of the cheetahs and scare them. Don't have a nail culling gun like at slaughterhouses and they make noise. Not much choice other than a knife. But when I get my project going, and I'm on training hunts with my cubs or adults and they are struggling and critical damage has been done to the prey (like this blesbok torn tendons), Im going to try the Maasai way and pinch the nose closed to suffocate them, painlessly. It is how they kill goats to eat. My cheetahs just need to hold it still for me.

@CheetahWhisperer ah, so the way a hunter does it if they screw up a shot. Also, pinching the nose with your bare hands actually works on a animal that size? I thought they could still breath through their mouth, and what would you do if they decided on something bigger, like "hartebeest/topi/wildebeest tasty" big? As...interesting... as the video of you essentially bare knuckle choking out a black wildebeest would be, the chances of injury would be quite high...

@@Shinzon23 Understand, I'd only interfere if the hunt jeopardized the safety of the cheetahs or the prolonged suffering of the prey. In this video, both those parameters were met.

Yeah... on this channel I focused more on cheetahs personality side, but want to create another channel for my research and adult nature themed content. Some viewers will not want to see this. But these cubs are cute when young, but all predators turn into predators to survive. To watch is disturbing to some.

I’m glad to see the Cubs learning, however it wasn’t great to see how long that animal was allowed to suffer while they struggled to take to down. Seems unnecessarily cruel.

The long hunt is where inexperience comes in. This was not Kiaras 1st hunt, but was the cubs. With more hunts, the kills will be quicker.

this happens way more often than you think, a strong prey can last forever, just parts of life thats all nothing cruel just the way nature designed it

Its also common that wildlife escapes these attacks and then either die days later or get injured for the rest of their lifes it just happens and these hunts have to happen if they are ever going to be released

i've been watching and subscribed since the beginning of the channel. And human presence was there the whole time. I dont believe that animals that are that close to humans can be set free in the wild they are dependant on human interaction and and they dont have the natural fear of humans. They would be in constant danger .of predation . Mabe your new to the channel!

@mikethompson8707 I haven't watched since the beginning, but I think you're really not qualified to give an opinion like that. Instincts still exist, and I guarantee you that wild animals can still be wild when released, even with human interaction. It's not like they're gonna automatically trust all humans... That's asinine. Wild animals aren't like domesticated animals. And if you've had such reservations since the beginning, why bother watching at all if you're gonna complain?
