Cheesy Sausage & Egg Pie, Simple & Easy Southern Cooking

Ойын-сауық

Cheesy Sausage & Egg Pie
DO YOU REMEMBER that good old southern cooking?
When I was growing up, my granny was my favorite cook. My mama was also a fantastic cook, but there was just something about being in granny’s kitchen. We all gathered around the table when we went to her house. I have made it easy for you to learn how to cook like my granny and mama did with cooking tutorials for every recipe in our cookbooks. You can see how to order these by visiting us on our website. Oh, and no difficult-to-find or crazy ingredients! Just simple ingredients and delicious food. I am a Southern girl born and raised in Collard Valley in Polk County, Georgia. We went to church on Sunday, school during the week, and the grocery store on Friday, and that was our life: no vacations, no camping, just plain old southern country people.
If you learn to cook like my mama and granny, you will become one of the best Southern cooks. Thank you so much for being a part of this dream of mine.
NOW FOR THIS FAMILY RECIPE:
Sausage, Egg & Cheese Pie
1 PIE SHELL
1/2 LB. BREAKFAST SAUSAGE
1 SMALL ONION DICED (OPTIONAL)
1 1/2 CUPS SHREDDED CHEDDAR CHEESE
4 EGGS, BEATEN
1 CUP HALF AND HALF
1/2 TSP. ONION POWDER
1/4 CUP SALTED BUTTER, MELTED
1/2 TSP. BLACK PEPPER
1/4 CUP SELF-RISING FLOUR
Pre-bake the pie shell at 400 degrees for 12 minutes. Turn the oven down to 350 degrees after removing the crust. Brown the breakfast sausage with onion and drain if needed. In a medium bowl, combine eggs, half and half, onion powder, butter, and pepper. Beat. Add flour and beat well. Add sausage, onion, and 1 cup of cheese. Pour this mixture into the pie shell. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. Top the pie with the remaining cheese and bake for another 20 minutes.

I didn't know you had fibromyalgia; I have it too. Doesn't it make you angry when people dismiss it as all in your head, or that you need to just "suck it up"? The pain is almost unbearable some days, and it just makes me so mad when people act like it's a made-up disease.

I had it. I cut out carbs and it went into remission years ago and hasn't come back. I know two other people that also went into remission cutting out carbs. Some people think it's too much trouble. It took one of my friends a year before she was desperate enough to try it. For me, the pain was so unbearable I literally would have tried anything.

Tammy, you said 4 eggs in the written recipe yet you used 6 eggs in the video. One cup of half and half to 6 eggs seems like too little liquid, based on my experience making quiche. Folks you don't need to add that butter, it's completely unnecessary and just adds more saturated fat. Looks like a delicious quiche.

I have fibromyalgia also. I am 69 and I started with it in early 40s. Mine seemed triggered by Lyme disease. It is better overall now, but I now deal with neuropathy pain and phantom pain after losing left leg. I had a severe sepsis that necessitated that. So I am glad the fibro pain eased to make room for the new pain! Life is a challenge for sure sometimes. But I will tell you…fibromyalgia is very real. Thankfully my husband ( who was a family practice MD) believed it with patients even before I developed it . He reassured his patients that while he had no clear answers, it was real. Btw, I am eating less carbs, focusing on complex carbs , and I am having improvements.

Hi Tammy, looks wonderful, anyone know the temp of the oven to bake this. It seems it takes about 1hour, depends on your oven. Thank you

I baked it at 350 degrees for 40 minutes, added the cheese to top and baked another 20 minutes. The recipe is in the description post.

I have a sausage request for you. How about a copycat Bojangles Booberry sausage biscuit?👍
