Cheddar Cheese Scones | Flaky

These scones are a delicious breakfast or side option. They're flaky, buttery, and yummy dipped in soup or chilli. Ingredients and instructions below.
Ingredients:
• 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
• 1/2 cup granulated white sugar
• 1 tablespoon baking powder
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 1/2 cup frozen butter
• 1 egg
• 1/2 cup buttermilk
• 1/2 cup grated cheese
• Optional: 1 egg for egg wash
Instructions:
1. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
2. Cut frozen butter into small pieces. Add to bowl. Use hands to coat butter in the dry ingredients.
3. Make a well in the centre of the bowl. Add egg and buttermilk. If you don't have buttermilk you can make some by mixing 1/2 teaspoon white vinegar into 1/2 cup milk. Stir so dough comes together.
4. Mix in grated cheese.
5. Place dough on counter. Fold in any remaining flour.
6. To make the scones flaky, roll dough flat, then fold over a few times. Repeat this step.
7. Form dough into a 10" ball. Cover and put in fridge for 10 minutes.
8. Cut dough into 8 triangular pieces. Place on lined baking sheet. Cover and put in freezer for 30 minutes.
9. Bake at 400°F for 20-26 minutes or under golden brown. To prevent the bottoms from burning, you can take them out after about 18 minutes and check the bottoms.
