    Nice demo, given me a few pointers for when I treat my old tent in a week or two. Thanks. Oh, and really interesting about how the layers actually work to keep the tent dry.

    I heard Thompson water seal works well. I know back in the eighties when tents were still canvas I used Thompson's and it worked well, but that was a canvas tent.

    I don't have a garden where i can spray my tent outside. i bought a unused knew cheap £85 Oex Rakoon II two man tent with its own waterproofing. i would like to be double sure the tent is fully waterproof before its first use. instead of spraying the fabseal gold on to the tent with a garden sprayer. can i fill a large bucket with cold water then mix the water with the fabseal and leave the tent to soak for a couple of hours for the tent materiel to adsorb the fabseal? i also want to fabseal the bathtub groundsheet that is already suppose to be water proof. cheap tent you cant be sure how good the manufactures waterproofing is. I'm thinking about the seams of the tent. any advice, thanks.

    +Mossy Bark try it first tho sometimes you dont need to seam seal it the thread swells in the holes and its water tight, some garden testing :)

    Yes seen thoes they are nano coatings any shoe shop sells them, they are all pretty much the same. The problem is the coating is ultra thin and does not bond with the surface at all so i find they dont last long at all.

    Well I don't want to use it if it don't last long at all like you said. The only thing about Fabsil is it is too expensive with the shipping costs being so high. I have not yet used m 3.5 Optic tent yet. I would like to proof it before I use it.

    For me it will last a year maybe 2, but depends, if you are out ever week in bad weather each time then maybe 2 seasons. It doesn't degrade or wear in storage only when out in bad weather, like a jacket.

    What makes this stuff any better than the $5 silicone spray from Wal-Mart if anything? I use the silicone spray and it works like a charm.

  • @TacBlades

    @TacBlades

    6 жыл бұрын

    Jamie Eastman silicone spray wears off really fast. This stuff stays on for about a year in all conditions. The silicone spray are very fine and do not penetrate the surface fibres very well they kind on sit on top of the fibres.

    Of course DWR is not waterproof. Never was and isn’t designed to be. It is a Durable Water Repellent fabric, the word Waterproof is never used, except by you. Which introduces confusion. It’s not waterproof material, it’s a far cheaper material rendering the product , a tent in this case, subject to water ingress. The Fabsil you’re using there is probably more expensive than your tent? So it’s up to you isn’t it? Buy cheap , buy twice? Isn’t that how it goes, oh and when out on your adventures, take an umbrella!
