How to rewaterproof a tent or camping equipment using fabsil

Фильм және анимация

Once a year it's alway good to re-waterproof your tents, hammock equipment, walking gear, tarp, bivys, rucksacks and what ever you might need to get ready for the winter months.
My one man tent needed a wash after a mate used it and after washing it the tent lost its waterproofness.
So within this video I go through step by step showing the way I re- waterproof my oex phoxx one man tent

You could have washed the tent with ‘Tech wash’, then refroofed it afterwards. I find the washing gives the proofing the best chance and it does work. Not just on tents either, but your outdoor waterproof clothing too, shell jacket and trousers. Works a treat. Thanks.

Great demonstration and that stuff does a cracking job - you could really see the water beading off the material after the treatment. Groovy.

I've got a bigger tent so I poured the fabsil into a washing up bowl and applied it with a soft bristle sweeping brush to get the reach. Works a treat.

This looks like a great way to rejuvenate a tent and keep it as waterproof as possible. I am sold on this one! The water just beads off lovely! I have an old cheap one man tent that i have owned for about 10 years but not used it very much. This looks like a good excuse to get it out and sort it out! :)

Another good tip to reseal the seams is to mix clear bathroom silicone with distilled water till you have a thin paint consistency and paint along all the seams before you reproof the whole flysheet!

I was given an old tent from the early eighties that was delaminating. A good few coats of fab' in both sides of the fly sorted it out. First time I used it was in 50mile/hour wind and rain that got rid of the smell and not a drop of water came in. Couldn't recommend this stuff more.

Polite recommendation. Great demo. We are going to use Fabsil on our Coleman event shelter (plus all my fishing gear!). Please be aware, Fabsil contains Butanone which is nasty stuff! I found out the hard way that i react violently to it from a previous workplace. Not to put a downer on your great vid but I advise to all wearing a breathing mask and disposable gloves. A dust mask won't stop breathing in fumes. It won't stop me using Fabsil though, thanks.

Of course you could have put Nikwax wash-in waterproofer into your washing machine whilst the tent was having a wash ? It actually works well. The tent waterproof spray is good for use on your tent on a sunny day at home too. Just so convenient. It’s easy to use and it works. I have used Fabsil , I remember it being effective too, but Nikwax is the way to go for me. Thanks for the vid.

I think the reason you're suppose to use a "brush" and not spray it on is to work it in the fabric and fibers better. I'm guessing it makes it longer lasting the deeper it penetrates. Seems like a great product that's not like nikkiwax or other half baked products.
