Loved your comment regarding those pigeons in the turret off the last bedroom. Upon exposing the two pigeons flying in the turret you stated, "yeah we have to learn how to cook those." I enjoyed the humor in the statement. I am also enjoying all your videos. I discovered you chateau videos just two days ago and I have all 15 in that amount of time.

I got into watching Stephanie Jarvis' fabulous Chateau Diaries, over a year ago just as lockdown was happening, then found many other Chateau owners' Vlogs, and just now have discovered your channel. For your roof you may want to connect with @The Pethericks and @Doing it Ourselves at Chateau de la Baismagnee - who I believe repaired their roof on their own with a 'cherry picker'. There's also @Chateau Life in the same area of France who also use a cherry picker for many jobs. Good luck!!

What a great tour and what positive attitudes. Most people would be overwhelmed with the magnitude of the remodel projects but most people don't have the magnitude of your faith to move to France to buy a chateau.It just takes faith the size of a mustard seed to grow a dream and you two are living the dream and walking out God's plan for your life. Oh wow... So many treasures! The black lattice wallpaper is fabulous. That little sink is for filling the basin jugs for washing up I believe. And YES! I would absolutely open up that roof and even put in glass if possible at some point. I'm all about keeping original features but if you could put in a skylight facing into the interior roof structure the inside of that room as a double height ceiling would be glorious! Someday...

oh my goodness I love it ! Wouldn't it be awesome if there were old trunks hidden up there in the attic that no one found until you two moved in! I live in Alabama I have some remodeling / restoration experience I would love to volunteer to help make that upper floor beautiful! But sadly I can't afford the travel right now ! Great video!

I really love the music you’ve chosen for your videos! What potential there is in this Chateau. It takes very special people to take a project on like this but I’m so glad you did!

It would be great to get some of the wallpapers reproduced. The blue and yellow one is beautiful. If you don't end up doing that you could get a large piece of the papers framed and then hang them in the rooms they used to be in. would be a lovely way to show off the history. Hope you can repair all the tile floors. They are wonderful. Also I'm on the side of make a ceiling.

When we gutted the old bathroom in the cottage that we inherited from my mother-in-law, we saved a tile and shadow framed it as a nod to the original. Love all the old tiles!!

The attic room with the wardrobes or armoires may have been linen storage for the household and there may have originally been a children's nursery in that attic area.

Was great to see more of the chateau. So much potential, you could almost imagine several apartments up there for people to stay for longer periods of time then the students. Even having a missionary family living there or another instructor bringing a spouse along. You could even have a pastor that is taking a sabbatical for a year, or what about some one wanting to write a book. So many options.

All the room could by made to look wonderful, love the different sharps of the rooms x

@@chateaudelagrifferaie953 yep all built over the last few years. Have also tried to buy back some of the original garden from neighbors. It’s been great fun! If you are ever over in this area would be pleased to show you and am sure we can exchange stories. Your place looks fascinating and I look forward to following your progress

You should try & salvage the old wall paper & get a company to make new copies of it. It would be great to put back in the same looking wall paper that was there years ago when the chateau was built

Pretty nice up there at one time. Those heavy beams seem to be in decent shape still, I hope.

I watch other channels where they are restoring old Chateaux. And they have found a couple of companies in the US & UK that have started reprinting some of the more unique and popular much older wallpapers. You could always check into that.

There are so many beautiful huge cathedrals in the cities for beautiful weddings. A wedding is not an option here in the country. Maybe just for the honeymoon afterwards in the French countryside..

Thank you for the plans and the tour. Because I’m a worrywart at heart I’m concerned about roof repairs and the birds. Both are so damaging to any building. Roof first, then cover the bird entries. Wire mesh, hardware cloth, move the birds toward an out!!! Then seal. Not permanent so real repair / restoration can continue. Sorry for the rant but don’t want to see further damage to such a beautiful building you are restoring.

you are right on track. the elements have many many ways into the chateau sadly. the first month we arrived I replaced 47 panes of glass that were missing, broken, or had significant holes. so we're making progress sealing things in, but much work to do. sadly the roof will cost quite a bit more than we have. so it won't be done quickly.

@@chateaudelagrifferaie953 In any case, the missing roof shales and the open holes in the roof deserve immediate attention, otherwise the rest of the restoration has no sense either... amazing videos by the way!!

It is a beautiful house but it fills me with horror at the amount of restoration it needs . You seem so calm about it. I suppose you need a very good architect to mastermind it all

Consider framing a sample of each room's wallpaper as 'art' and a memorial in the room.

💕I think you would find that is a servants area those wardrobes (sorry forgotten French spelling) would of been where all the linens were kept the room before would be the ironing room💕NO they would NEVER put guests up with servants💕

Have you found any wood worm? So many other Château videos show them treating the problem. You both seem so calm about some of the major problems 😂

How about getting in some Work Away volunteers to help with the renovations? Many people would jump at the chance.

Estate staff in those days did include some higher demanding members such as steward and sometimes teachers and mentors for the children and young adults. Some others workers like musicians and other entertainers were not servants but not distinguished enough to be 'guests'. They may have used the rooms next to the servants.

You are a big guy. Let the roofing people do it for you. They used to it.

The chateau is stunning. The background music is a bit loud.

Maybe you could get a maintenance contract on your roof like we get for our air-conditioning systems on commercial buildings in Houston.

Eventually we may have to bite the bullet and take a loan to fix it. At this point, I'm not sure we can get a French loan?

To show off the ceilings without dealing with the rebuild and insulation issues...plexiglass ceiling?

Usually the roof surfaces are much larger than the total living surface!

Absolutely love your show. Have you ever spoken in any of the episodes about health insurance. If you break your leg while at the chateau, does your American insurance kick in?

Have you gotten acquainted with any of the other “new” chateau owners?

not yet, but we had a very nice neighbour chateau owner come over one day.

Ask Stephanie Jarvis at Chateau Diaries. She's already researched wallpapers and fabrics for her Chateau and she has a great Vlog as well as Michael Petherick.

The red checked floor was a mistress room 😉

Have you thought of fire alarms and means of escape? The top floor would be a death trap in the event of a fire. With lots of students in the chateau the possibility if a fire caused by smoking, cooking etc is real. French regulations are very slack- nothing like UK legislation. Sprinklers would be best but probably beyond your budget. Have a serios think about this. It would be a pity to see your deansvgo up in smoke!

Don’t these two ever get depressed or disheartened by all the time and work and expense necessary to get the Chateau into shape. Every other U Tube clip or TV programme about Ex Pat Chateau owners has them spending half the programme moaning about the cost, running out of money and the impossibility of the French bureaucracy . These two Canadians are a breadth of fresh air. Are they real.

aahhh... thanks:) yes, very real, and actually pretty depressed this week, but glad the videos have been cheerful. Leslie almost always has a good attitude. I (Rob) can be a bit moody:)
