@@KRonna "men are supposed to be nice to women¨ - like, to all of them irrespective of their behaviour? If so, how about "women are supposed to respect men"? I just hate these double standards. You simply called a man narcisstic for no apparent reason and basically meant that he is not worth of respect, while at the same time you are bluntly saying "men are SUPPOSED to be nice to women"?

If a bitch left me for my dick going limp (assuming that there was no possible access to Viagra) then I would just leave her high & dry. In the same manner that a woman could (and would) simply just let go of a man, a man should have no qualms about merely dropping a woman at the end of their relationship. #equality

writermachine80 she did everything she could do to work through his impotence. Trey gave up many times throughout their marriage when it got too difficult. “Can’t have a baby? Then we won’t have one” “I can’t have sex? Then we won’t be physical at all” Charlotte is a lot of things but she fought in that marriage with a lot working against her.

@@amywilson9591 Yeah, the writer's were really good at making Trey, a heterosexual man, look like the culprit behind the relationship failing. Because the show was primarily targeted to reach a predominantly heterosexual female audience, as well as a homosexual audience, the themes tended to centralize on making its female characters look like the victims of their circumstances.

This part always makes me cry. Trey was really respectful and beautiful towards her! Even when he realised he could never really give her what she wanted, Giving her the apartment was beautiful, trust me in the real world a lot of men would of told her to pack the bags. But when he still shows up for the photo shoot even knowing they were separating just showed his respect and love towards her. And like Carrie says, a relationship can look so pretty on the outside, but you never truly know what’s going on behind closed doors, great message!

I don’t think the series was shallow. The characters could be excessively shallow at times. There were also times when the topics were serious and depicted seriously. For example, Miranda’s mother’s death. I have to say though that a sweeping generalization that little girls and pearls wanting nothing more than NY apartments is way off.

Kristin Davis doesn’t get enough credit for her acting role as Charlotte. I know why, Char is like the antithesis of everything ppl stand for nowadays, and she had flaws (all though ALL FOUR of the women did). But Charlotte honestly was a breath of fresh air during her Trey to Harry arc. I know ppl hate Charlotte but honestly screw them cause they don’t know how much of a gem of a character they are missing: She was reproductively challenged even though she desperately wanted a baby, suffered a miscarriage, had a shattering divorce, etc. and yet…she still stayed positive. And she didn’t lose sight of what’s important to her. Kristin did a fabulous job with Charlotte. No one could play her like she could. Plus, I always thought she was extremely pretty. 💗

  • @zhabtema

    @zhabtema

    2 жыл бұрын

I do enjoy Kristin Davis' acting. That said, yes I can admit Charlotte was my third least favorite of the characters. But I can tell you, at least from my perspective, that it was not rooted in the idea of what she "stood for" (I assume that to be a Park Avenue Princess with pearls permanently attached to her clavicle and a deep fantasy for romance). Sarcasm aside, there is genuinely nothing with that. The major problem I had with Charlotte was that she was deeply judgmental and the least open-minded of the four. Like because what she valued and appreciated was traditional, everything that deviates from that was apparently deserving of shame. Add on to that she was one of the women most prone to running out of the restaurant in a huff when conversation gets uncomfortable; like come on man, they're in their 30s and 40s that's not cool or mature behavior. THAT SAID, WHAT I DID REALLY LOVE about Charlotte's character is that her particular arc, especially with all her rigid philosophy on love, required so much deconstruction in order to finally find someone who loves her, appreciates her, forces her to OPEN UP but in a way that's respectful, and get everything that she NEEDED, not necessarily what she WANTED or PLANNED. The man she married is a sweet, honest, straight-to-the-point guy who is also head over heels for her and doesn't fit nearly any of her conventional criteria in a man. Then, that same man was immediately and open to raising a family with her, through adoption and conception, in her late 30s and 40s. That same man STOOD BY HER in her infertility struggle and SHE EVEN found the strength to deal with it and EMBRACE herself to still be there for others. What I appreciate about Charlotte is that, despite everything she stood for, she ultimately got the life of her dreams in a way that was against her whole playbook and she still showed genuine love and GROWTH. Absolute respect to your comment, I promise (and capitals are for emphasis, not anger). Blessings.

But she didn’t break down and kept trying to find her dream man, while staying independent and true to her values. I wish the series would have explored her and Miranda’s relationship issues more as it was way more relatable than sex-crazed Samantha and needy/insecure/selfish Carrie.

This has always been one of my favorite scenes in SATC. Trey and Charlotte were perfect for each other, in theory, but, as this scene shows, perfect in theory doesn't always mean perfect in practice. No one was too blame, things just didn't work out and Trey gave Charlotte the only things he could in the end: the apartment and the image of a prefect UES couple in H&G magazine.

People need to understand that charlotte never deserved trey, she cheated on him with a gardener she was only after his money, I don’t understand why people are calling her wonderful, trey’s sperm were fine it was her who had reproductive issues yet she blamed it all on trey and got the apartment and an engagement ring in a divorce and the most disgusting thing she did was she still lives in the apartment she got in a settlement with trey with her CURRENT HUSBAND HARRY!!!!

Why was it that during the divorce settlement discussion, Bunny said to Charlotte, "When things didn't go your way you simply broke your vows?" It was so unfair! Charlotte wanted the same thing Bunny did, a baby! And it was Trey who changed his mind about having kids!

  • @MsMinoula

+heaventree ofstars Bunny didn't want just a baby, she wanted a son with McDougall blood :P Charlotte was willing to adopt a chinese girl that could 've been older than baby already. And she was taking hormones to do an in vitro although trey had his objections. He changed his mind when all of this started. I think she was wrong to have pushed things so much. He was wrong to involve his mother.

He was so wrong to involve his mother. What a momma's boy he was. But I don't think Charlotte was wrong to want a baby and try to do whatever it would take to have one. But she shouldn't have put them on a list for a Mandarin baby without consulting Trey first.

He changed his mind because it shouldn't be this constant stress, and work to have a child. Also, maybe you should consult your husband before trying to adopt a Chinese baby.

They wanted different things and I can understand both of them. Both wanted kids, but Charlotte was prepared to do everything without clearly communicating this. I thought her action of putting their names up for a Mandarin baby without discussing it with Trey was unreasonable, and Trey has completely unreasonable in involving his mother. While Charlotte was right in not wanting to give up her wish to become a mother, so was Trey's not wanting to keep trying. I don't think he was selfish when he said that he couldn't deal with all the effort and the pressure to have a baby, on top of his demanding job at the hospital. You can say that Charlotte was the one injecting herself with the hormones, but going through IVF, and other fertility treatments may suck the life out of any marriage, no matter how much love there is.

I re-watch this series in piecies on youtube now and I see how emotionally scattered people can be at times. Yet, we do have our feeling nature at the core of our being. And to show this kind of support is heart-opening. The frames do not matter. The names do not matter that much as what goes on in our hearts filled with life and soul.

I mean, Charlotte got A LOT out of that very brief, failed marriage: one million bucks and a gorgeous apartment on the upper east side. She divorced Trey on her terms, really. Yeah, I'm sure the breakup and shattering the illusion of the perfect marriage and husband are painful, but I just can't bring myself to feel sorry for her.
