Charity Lee reflects upon her son - who murdered her own daughter | Rob Konrad: Conversations Pt 2/5

In 2007, Charity Lee's 4-year old daughter Ella was murdered - by her own 13-year old brother, who was later diagnosed in prison with mental health and personality disorders.
In this snippet taken from our full conversation, Charity talks about how she is dealing today with the loss of not only one, but two of her children, insights on why her son committed this murder, and why she never stopped loving her son despite what he did.

This makes NO sense. The mom and grandma both say on The Family I Had, that there was something obviously wrong with Paris to the point that 6 months BEFORE the murder that she took him for a psychic evaluation AND was told that he was a phsyopath with "murderous intent". How can she claim that she had NO idea that Paris had issues 😮

As a little brother I can't wrap my mind around this, when I was born my brother was 17, and to this day he says that was best day of his life was the day I was born, he told me the first time he held me in the hospital, he cried because I grabbed his finger and he said I looked at him and smiled, the day I was brought home he wanted to cuddle me so bad he begged my dad to let him, and dad let him, dad said he was so gentle with me that dad knew he was going to be an amazing big brother, and he was and as a baby he wanted my crib in his room because he had to look after me, I slept in his room until I was about 7 or 8. There are tons of pictures of him holding me there is one where I'm asleep on his chest and he's got his arm around me as is asleep on the sofa. I can't begin to wrap my brain around this guy killing his baby sister, my brother would have killed you if you even looked at me the wrong way that's how protective he was of his baby brother me.

She said it herself those incidents caused concern but not the type of concern where you would ever assume one of your children would murder your other child ? Hindsight is everything truly. Also Paris didn’t share his fantasies until after the murder, she was just stating that HE knew he was dreaming of hurting her at that age, didn’t tell her that until he was already in prison obviously.

This could have happened to me, as my sister has hated me from the day I was born, because she had the full attention of my parents for 4 years, until I was born. So she felt entitled and justified to abuse and torment me, from before the time I could speak. She would be so kind and attentive to me in the presence of others, and then immediately turn to stone and hatefully speak to me and glare at me, the moment that we were alone. I was frightened and emotionally painted, I believe, as the only thing I could do is I would start bawling. She would then pretend to have no idea why I was crying ,and return to pretending to be the loving older sister. Once I reached speaking age, she told me that everything was my fault, because I was bad. And it was her explanation for when she did cruel things to me. I wholeheartedly believed her to be telling me the truth and I accepted that I deserved every bad thing she did because I had caused my parents divorce, I was the cause of anything and everything, and it was because I was bad. I didn't have the intellect to reason or question my status as a bad person. I didn't know anything about manipulation or lying. She told me I was bad, and I believed her! When she did something cruel, and I tried to object, she explained to me that my objection to her behaviour, was proof in itself,of how bad I actually was. How dare I show displeasure for being punished for my badness. That just "proved" how diabolically rotten I was; to question her punishment was further evidence she used to feel even more entitled to abuse me. My mother was extremely self involved(she has now, at 85, become a loving mother)and had been overindulged as a child and was basically ,still, emotionally, a spoiled little child who couldn't cope with her role of wife and mother and my grandparents had to move into our home shortly before I was born. I'm sure I was an accident because my mother told us that she wasn't aware she was pregnant with me for almost 5-6 months, because she never skipped a period until she was between 5-6 months pregs. And later in my teens, I discovered a receipt in her jewelry box, from an abortion clinic, dated a few years after I was born. So, I'm pretty sure that I would have been aborted had she missed her first couple of periods during the first month or two of pregnancy. Because I'm pretty sure she was already not liking motherhood while she had only one child, my sister. My sister had been a sickly(no appetite, diarrhea) newborn for the first several months of life, and I can't imagine my mother having to deal with cleaning diarrhea around the clock for even a day, and it apparently was off and on for weeks. But, as luck would have it, I was a healthy newborn baby, who happened to be exceptionally cute, a non crier, happy, an also an uncomplicated eater without digestive issues . I have decided to use the words 'exceptionally cute' in order to provide a crucial insight to my family's dysfunction.....even though I realize it may be at the expense of being misunderstood by someone who may read this comment. So, the reason why I included that particular description of myself as an infant, is first of all, the words that my mother used when she would repeat the story to me, or to her friends or to whomever, about how she would experience what sounded to me as almost celebrity-level attention whenever she took me out anywhere in public. She would go on about how anyone in the community who came within sighting distance; would be compelled to make their way over to her to tell her how adorable I was.My mother was a 29yr old, very attractive, perfectly dressed(in late 1960's fashion mini dresses),blonde, fair German woman, toting around a cute newborn or infant with big brown eyes and a single curl swoop of brown hair on top(I was born, already with hair+hairstyle). My mother, would was overindulged and basically worshipped by her parents as an only child, imo, would have been at her narcissistic peak during her young adulthood. And I can only imagine how delighted she was to receive this kind of attention. Imo, receiving attention and adoration of others is the most significant thing, or maybe the only thing, that fulfills her soul. I just had an epiphany writing that previous sentence, and realized that even now, I'm 57 and she's 86, I still hold resentment towards her for her narcissism(for which she is blameless; her parents created the circumstances by which she had a slim to none chance of becoming anyone other than an individual exhibiting narcissistic traits)...I purposely ignore her when I know she is pretending to be panicked that she misplaced her phone, or, car keys, (because it's like clockwork, every visit, within twenty minutes of arriving. Same thing, every time)or that she hit her head on the open cabinet door(yet she isn't anywhere near the cabinet, and the cabinet door is closed.🙄 My epiphany that I just about this endless loop I have fallen into with respect to refusing to reward my 86 year old mother's attention seeking behaviour; was the thought that I have never had before and therefore have previously never entertained until two minutes ago: "why not give her the attention that she is doing her shenanigans in order to receive?" I just realized I've been so committed to refuse to allow her to distract me a give her my undivided attention, because Im holding on to resentment from my perspective as a child, because of the suffering I experienced as a direct consequence of her prioritizing the fulfillment of her narcissistic needs at the expense and at certain times, at the potential sacrifice if necessary, of anyone or anything that impeded her from supplying those needs. But now, in this present day, her need to fulfill these narcissistic needs are barely shadows from what they once were, and I'm actually not facing any threat of pain or mortal danger as a consequence of her pursuit to feed the narcissism which exists, and which is an irrevesible, inextricable part of her being. Just as I'm not narcissistic; it's not a choice, I couldn't will myself into having narcissistic traits, even if doing so would bring me a million dollar winning prize. I just realized, that I have to finally accept that my mother can't will herself to be rid of her narcissistic traits, even if she realized she has them and wanted to be rid of them. So with this whole realization, I suddenly have no feeling of anxiety, resentment, pain, anger, or fear anticipating the next time she does her shenanigan for attention protocol. I can stop expending my energy and allowing my negative emotions to be triggered, in response to every shenanigan she does. I'm actually looking forward to her next visit, because I have come to terms with and I have gained my freedom, from this 50+ year unhealthy pattern of behaviour.

I think everyone has glossed over this but I think Paris needed a father figure and he felt left out. I think he got attention but he felt left out because his mother couldn’t help him learn how to grow into a man as he is experiencing hormones. Charity treats men like sperm donors for all her kids. That’s not normal. And considering he raped his sister I think he was confused with sexual feelings and not having a dad made him feel alone. I’ve had a lot of shitty men treat me bad but even so I still understand that especially to teenage boys having a father figure is important for teenage boys. If I didn’t have a mom I can’t imagine how alone I’d feel when I had my first period. Single parents try to make excuses that kids don’t need both a mother and father. But it does affect kids to some degree. Some more than others. And Charity gives off major man hating vibes. Paris didn’t have an uncle or an other substitute father figure.

He didn’t do this to cause you pain he wasn’t even thinking of you when he did this, he did it to gratify hisself. It was convenient for him he didn’t even care to do it to someone outside of the family he simply does not care. And when he gets he will not want to go back to prison so if he can’t find a way to do it without getting caught he won’t do it

Most children don't harm animals. If you can cause harm to animals, you can definitely become a psychopath.Children should be taught to be careful and kind to animals.

I really like Charity, she’s a respectful person and I feel awful for what has happened to her family. It’s really good that she talks about these things as I feel it can highlight some of the issues other families need to look out for. I also wondered whether Paris may have had some issues regarding his sexuality, since his age range hormones are all over the place and many psychopathic killers have instances or sexuality linking the murders. I watched another documentary about him where it was said semen was found on the little girl, it sort of highlights the link between sexuality and murder. Charity, if you are reviewing these comments I wonder if you could be kind enough to update the audience on whether any psychological profiling of Paris has ever determined issues with his sexuality?

She seems uncomfortable, and her voice doesn't sound real. Why didn't she get help for her son's anger issues or psychopathic behaviour.

The mother did him dirty in childhood and continues to do him dirty and telling their personal conversations on the internet. Some conversations are meant to be between the son and the mother.
