Charity Lee, Caryle Rubin & Katie Green Discuss The Documentary, "The Family I Had"

Ойын-сауық

Charity Lee walks a fine line between love and fear of her son Paris. It’s been ten years since he killed her daughter and she is left questioning his chance at redemption and her ability to forgive. Directed by Carlye Rubin and Katie Green, "The Family I Had" peels back the layers to reveal a family history previously marked by intra-family violence as she embraces motherhood for a third time with a new baby boy. Widely varying accounts from family members concerning how this tragedy came about crossed with intimate family videos, diaries and other personal media render a deeply nuanced and complicated portrait of a broken family striving to overcome the unthinkable.

    Thank you to filmmakers for choosing to *not* use a narrator nor show an interviewer and instead letting the family's own words exclusively speak for themselves. It's clear that editing was done with exquisite skill in storytelling and utmost respect for the family. There are many lessons to learn from this rare insight into familial mental illness, psychopathy and violence in childhood. In sharing her family's history so honestly, Charity has made an invaluable contribution toward better understanding, by both clinicians and the public, of these complex conditions and tragic consequences. Immense gratitude to Charity for her brave intellect and generous heart in sharing with us what she's learned from her immeasurable losses.

    What a more powerful and resonating documentary film when the film makers changed direction away from an advocacy issue. It became relate-able, compelling, and freed it from time. The documentary allowed a story and the authentic, honest, voices and themes to emerge. That's the art of documentary I feel. I really like these film makers/artists. And that change-up, transformation, really, of the subject and project, and what came out of it - a super documentary - exactly what happens also with Capturing The Friedmans. A film about clowns for hire became a riveting documentary about a family and it's remarkable story.

I agree a 14 yr old shouldn’t be in an adult prison. I think they should wait til he’s 21 and then place him in an adult prison which is where he belongs. Sexist religions toxic media that she teaches men and boys to Abused Women and treat them like sex objects violent video games like Grand Theft Auto all you know abuse p*** strip joints all over empathy in men and boys and that is what's making the crime go up so high in America so I hope this info really helps you realize the new studies

    @@deannekliene2673 You're not getting this family. Charity's own mother sent soft porn comic books to her grandson in prison for child murder; then joined Paris in a lawsuit against Charity for asking the prison to stop allowing it. AFTER all that, Charity packed up her house in GA and moved in with her mom. They have no boundaries to say the least. The grandmother will definitely tell Paris where to find Charity and Phoenix, if Charity doesn't do it herself.

  • @gianaisabella7933
    @gianaisabella79335 жыл бұрын

    Just for the simple fact that the documentary noted that Paris feels a sense of great relief when he engages in dark dialogue just as what was in those books that his Grandmother was sending him in prison, and what was stated in regards to it is a major red flag. Charity also stated in the documentary while she was listening to the 911 call how fake Paris's cry was, she stated that everything about that 911 call on Paris's side was fake. I really have to second question Charity in regards to her willingness to be so open about where she is currently living at with her 3rd child. The day that Charity hears word of a possible prison release for Paris, I think that it would be more than wise for her to take her youngest child and go into hiding. Hopefully, with any luck, he will not be released from prison, as he is not only a grave threat to his own mother and baby brother, but he is also a grave threat to society. Paris confessed during the documentary that on the day that he had murdered his sister, he was looking to just kill anyone he can to let out the "rage" that was inside of him. Charity may some how feel a maternal bond to Paris, but, that's all that it is, is a maternal bond. The child, the son that she thought she once had, is no longer there, and he wasn't there for quite sometime before or after he had so vilely murdered his little sister. These demonic entities are born onto this earth through a woman's womb. Unfortunately, the unsuspecting mother has no idea what she has given birth to, so even after the child commits an abdominal act of murder or violence, that mother's instinctive maternal bond wants to somehow protect and care for that child regardless of what he has done. Paris was born this way, it's not nothing that was inherited, nor was it her fault, even in those early family video's you can see how violent his play was. We are not dealing with an individual that even remotely has the ability to feel any empathy or remorse, he is a demon seed.

    I can tell during this documentary that Charity does not want her son out of prison because she knows he is dangerous and she is afraid of him. You can also tell that Paris just says what he knows everyone wants to here. I am usually against kids getting sent to prison for life,but in this case it is clear that Paris is a psychopath that has this dark place in his mind that he wants to act out. He is a budding serial killer I believe.

The biggest issue is she can't accept her mistakes or her children's mistakes. I agree I'm very intuitional but it's not just that it the video she shows him saying bad things but she turns it off as soon as she starts disciplining him like she's got something to hide she starts talking about how drugs and mental health issues run in their family but she cuts it off and doesn't really talk about how she raised him and the Thomas had a psychopath disorder as a little girl she developed it from being sexually abused by her father and he died and her adopted parents noticed she was showing lack of empathy and trying to kill her brother and saying bad things just like a little boy was maturity son was and they sent her to a rehabilitation Farm Center and she looked at the psychologist and they reversed it and about seven months and now she's an adult psychologist and she helps others and they actually did studies at psychopath disorder is just undeveloped part of the brain that it has to do with empathy and you can actually redevelop it and make it stronger it has to do with your brainwaves and I know there's a lot more I can write about her that you already know about but I also grew up I was born with high-functioning Autism my mom didn't know she was pregnant with me that the heroin when she found out she quit the heroin and I have ADHD add and she didn't do drugs with my sisters they turned out way more normal than me and had more control over their behaviors and and my dad took away the accommodations in the coping methods that my Aunt Sharon she actually works with disabled children just like me and Summer Moore develop me developmental to say it disabled than me some the same amount and by the hate 80% better with the coping methods and my dad said it's embarrassing she just needs to behave 100% And she said no child but he's a hundred percent of the time it's a work of progress and I'm just glad that she's behaving 80% but her with sports and cognitive therapy and my Aunt Sharon bought me some things that would help me with white noise to help me sleep better and my dad took it all away cuz he said it was too much money my mom bought me a fish tank the bubbles helped me sleep and he took it away and said I just have a demon inside of me I just need to spit it out and behave and I started behaving even worse than I did before after that and ended up living with my aunt who gave me the attention I needed to and my uncle was very abusive and so I developed PTSD really bad and then I moved in with my mom again and it was just me and her I know if you serve alcoholic boyfriend I did really well and I have some therapy for a little while and that helped a lot and you know I got older so the 8 HD part wasn't as bad and cuz you can grow out of it to an extent and my dad was out of the picture and I went back with my aunt cuz my mom made me cuz I wasn't getting along with her boyfriend and my uncle was less abusive when I got older and the still developed PTSD from the abuse in the past and current abused it wasn't as often so I was able to graduate and when I was little I had no empathy for my sister and I put her in the hospital and I had empathy for Animals still though my sister did horrible things to me she was jealous because I was disabled I was getting a lot of attention and she admitted this to me when I got older and so she made friends with kids that were horrible to me and beating me up and she would make others hate me and she still does that but she forgave me and I later found out she never did and I forgave her and but I haven't busy now like even though she's still mean to me I have empathy now I was able to develop it enough and keep it stabilized and I can tell her son may have not have changed but there are sociopaths and Psychopaths out there that don't ever murder so being a sociopath versus psychopath doesn't make you a murderer trauma or being around bad influences like Ted Bundy had abused p*** and I can I mean if you read it inside the minds of angry men why does he do that by Lundy Bancroft abuse p*** is one of the sexist religions is one of the leading two causes toxic media that teaches men and boys to treat women like sex objects those are the three huge leading causes of teaching men and boys to have lower empathy towards women and it's why sadistically there's so much sexual and domestic violent crimes in America and when people do drugs it messes up the mind of the child and they're more likely to be born with small amount of empathy and it can be developed if the parent raise them right cuz your brain waves can be strengthened even if your brain waves have been weekend and I learned that from biofeedback sections Specialists and he said that the only thing he can fix the schizophrenia but even reading a book increases your brain waves and strengthens them so cognitive therapy involves feedback can increase your empathy levels this boy could have been helped if he had coming to therapy class and I don't know there's something not right about the mom they were times I had empathy for my sisters like there is a bowl that was chasing us we was next to a cow farm and my cousin's my siblings and my best friends were being chased and I had the bull come after me and they ran the other way and got out and I barely got through the fence and the bull was like hitting its head against the fence so I still at times would be there for them but there were times where I just might empathy turned off and I was just so all human beings have to turn the empathy off into an extended to eat an animal or a plant or Turbo proving so we all have the potential to the Psychopaths and sociopaths to a degree it's that part where you say no to that sadistic part of you every human has sadistic missing them I mean if you look a little baby puppies they will play fight which is sadistic to a small degree according to psychology and is to practice for hunting and sports that are violent violent video games being happy that someone who murdered your family members being executed those are all forms of sadistic behavior and some people have more than others and you have to learn to keep that sadistic side and check and it's been through trauma that sadistic side can grow and if you don't have a parent that understands that you need a developer empathy part of your brain and they're not helping you develop it that's just excited can grow and they get addicted to it just like dopamine when people do drugs or look at p*** and usually takes outside intervention to get them to control it and I mean there's always somebody who's going to choose to not get better even if they get the help they want but most people can get better with the right help in the right circumstances and when I worked at this Shipyard we have an underground city and I had inspected and that place is horrible I'll never work there again but we learn satistics that 90% of people will kill and still for survival if the government shuts down and so humans have the capacity to be really good or really bad and even without the government in plays you know there's tons of doctors that Gaslight their patients to make money off them Avril Lavigne was talking about it my psychologist talked about it how her doctor made her think it was all in her head and she got a second opinion and she had Lyme disease and they my psychologist said she was lied to About Her diagnosis too and she said it's an epidemic there's tons of people being lied to about their diagnosis because doctors make more money to secure the patient goes and they could pharmaceutical drugs that are bioengineered to have side effects to make people sicker McDonald's workers so food that gives people cancer the government there's a lot of pedophiles molesters in the government and they don't care about the environment they're destroying it DSHS workers Gaslight people shelters Gaslight claims to get more funding I mean if people doing horrendously evil things I I mean it's not obviously evil like stabbing somebody but behind the scene CPS ignored me and didn't believe me when I said that the foster care parent wasn't feeding me and cuz I was my dad lost custody of me for awhile for beating me up and so that there's just so much evil going on and people lie to themselves about it and pretend to be Christian good people even the Buddhist sect that I joined illegal bureaucrats there to I'm not saying there aren't really good people out there it's just not as many as people think and Mimi's capitalism Netherlands there's a the socialism teaches everybody to be equal and care for one another there's democracy so they can make as much money as they want but the Socialist part teaches them to share the money and care about others and be practical with their money and so there is significantly less crime there cuz government actually takes good care of their people and how the government treats the people can make a huge difference on how people will treat each other and the same thing goes for when you raise a disabled child or child has been with an undeveloped empathy part of the brain she probably did drugs and that's probably he was probably born that way and I bet she scolded him really bad about it instead of getting him help and could you turn that camera off a really quick when she started disciplining him so yeah I totally agree with you

    I don't agree. I think she had to have something positive out of the horrible event. She is helping others and it helps her work through the pain. It's therapy for everyone involved. We can't begin to understand the pain and trauma she has and still does go through.
