Thank You for a Simple BRILLIANT Chamfering Explanation ! Here (Cupertino, California) one would thing that people, and Skilled Trades, would pay close attention to important details ... but that is absolutely not-the-case! When I asked the ‘highly rated’ Plumbing Business folks about whether they ‘Chamfered’ the ABS (or PVC) when solvent-welding joints, they ‘UNANIMOUSLY’ said “NO” ... some added that “... we use a lot of solvent ....”. So, as a homeowner I bothered to telephone to three (3) USA manufacturers of ABS pipe, including the ‘Charlotte Pipe’ company. Online Charlotte has an extensive Technical Manual that prominently states that the “Pipe Must Be Chamfered at xx-degrees at the outer edge... “. The ABS (& PVC) Solvent Manufactures have almost identical directions for proper use of their solvent-welding products. BUT, still I was hearing from local “plumbers” (not to be confused with actual ‘skilled’ plumbers), that “... we don’t chamfer, we just add extra solvent ....”. These same sub-skilled folk blamed joint-failure on “bad lots of ABS pipe”, with no supporting technical backup. I located a Piping/Plumbing Industry Report that provided a well-done statistical study of ABS Pipe Leaks, their results documented that 90+ % “OF ALL FAILURES” were due to “JOINT FAILURE”. OF COURSE, “Chamfering” takes a bit more time for a contractor/plumber. I was dismayed when our local sub-skilled folks stated that “... We warranty our work for 10-years ....”, as though that somehow compensated for shoddy work! THANK YOU BOB, Your ‘Skill’ and excellent presentation represents the highest Of competence and excellence ... in all occupations. If I were in the UK I would be a die-hard card-carrying member/customer ... any thoughts of opening a shop here ? ;-))

What grit of disc?

It is an 80 grit. Make sure it's an inox/stainless steel otherwise bits of grit come off and embed themselves in the plastic.
