Chair Yoga for restricted mobility & Seniors 65 and up - 20 Minutes

Chair Yoga is a gentle form of yoga that can be done sitting on a chair. It is beneficial if you have limited mobility. This class is meant for seniors 65 + and this sequence is used in nursing homes and home hospice care - anyone can do it! Chair yoga incorporates not only full-body movement but also breath and basic meditation techniques. This class will assist you in building strength, functionality in your body, memory tests as well as deepen your connection with yourself.

    Hi Kirstie, I’m a 75 yr old man and I’m stiff as a board. Just found you on KZread a few days ago as the title of this video describes me to a T. Just finished my 3rd day in a row doing your moves. I just wanted to say thank you for posting this very basic starter session. It suits me perfectly.     I am 82. I recently visited my doctor for arthritis pain. she prescribed me some exercises that were on three pages of paper. I was unmotivated. then I found your videos! I am so grateful! I can't wait to show my doctor again.!

    I'm 77 years old and have been sedentary most of my life except for walking in good weather. I'm very happy for finding this chair Yoga. The flowing movements make me feel so good! And I don't need to leave my house. I've never cared for fitness centers or crowded classes. This way is much more personal.

    I am 84 and have just started your yoga class. It is great for me because I can do it any time during the day. I am an artist and teach classes so it is helping get some movement to loosen up. Look forward to seeing improvement soon.

    I'm only 43, but I have a brain tumor and had brain surgery 6 years ago. It's really taken a toll on me physically and mentally and disability has made it so I can't get through a regular class. My gait and balance issues are severe right now. It felt so good to get through this yoga sequence. Thank you for this yoga instruction. ❤

    Be very careful with neck rolls! Most physical therapists do not recommend it. The individual movements, ear to shoulder, chin to chest and back, and looking right to left with the inhale and exhale is much better for the cervical spine. As we age, sometimes the vertebrae becomes compressed from gravity, poor posture and lack of use so rolling the neck around sometimes grinds the bones together which can cause nerve pinching. I'm 68 with neck problems and I taught Iyengar yoga for 12 years so I have some experience. Otherwise, this is an awesome chair program. Thanks!

    I am a 72 year old man. Bunch of orthopedic problems courtesy of the Marines and pretty much a mess as far as being mobile. I stumbled across your video, and I am on my first chair yoga for restricted mobility. I must say, I have noticed a difference, the spine and knees are a little more flexible, and the overall wellness is going up. Thanks for your well presented program. Easy to follow. However, I am currently visiting my 85 and 89 year old sisters who live together in the USA.     I am 82 female with balance problems, vertigo, sciatic nerve problems and arthritis mostly in my hands and feet. At my Doctor appointment a few days ago my Doctor recommended chair exercises. I just did your session for the first time. I looked at a few others but yours was the best for guiding me in doing it at a level compatible with my abilities, with the assurance if I keep doing my part I will see improvement in all areas.     Kirstie, I am so grateful for your wonderful class! I'm 70 years old, have never practised any kind of sport, and have been diagnosed with prediabetes. It's imperative that I start moving and building some muscle. Your gentle exercises were surprisingly doable, and yet I'm sweating and feel all my muscles have stretched a bit.     I am 40, but I have had a stroke & I have tremors which cause some mobility issues. I used to love getting down on my mat & doing yoga. I came across this & thought yes! Sometimes I can get depressed when my body isn't able to do what I am used to. Thankful & grateful that I came across this!

    I did this class at 1:30 AM in the morning because I couldn’t fall asleep and I had severe brain chatter. I am always a stroke victim and this gave me some peace. I wasn’t able to get exactly into the positions because I’m paralyzed on my right side, but I intend to take the class for about a few weeks and maybe I’ll get better doing this very inspirational and very positive gave me a little motivation. I’ll look for more of your classes. I can’t afford to do the advertised once but I can share this. It’s so amazing. Send it to my 83-year-old mother I had a stroke when I was 59. I’m now going to be 61 in July. My brain doesn’t think it’s decrepit and old but I sure feel that way but this class made me feel invigorated, and it made me forget the brain chatter can be very dark and debilitating.     Hello, Kirstie - I'm so grateful I found you. Just finished this class for the first time and I'm very impressed with the exercises. I have never done any yoga, always stayed away from it because of my knee issues not being able to get up off the floor with ease, etc., and extend my body. This chair yoga class is perfect for me - I'm now 75 years old. I will do this class daily and then attempt to later "graduate" to your Level 2 with Core and Balancing. Thank you so much!

    Hi Kierstie. I am a seventy year old male finally coming out of surgical and medical issues. The multiple surgeries worked and the medical conditions are under control with medication. I was offered Chair Yoga through the VA Medical center here in St. Louis. Beth interviewed me and gave me a preparatory list for her class via Zoom.     I'll be 76 in June. I've tried other yoga classes for seniors on youtube yet found the leaders annoying...not you! I love your kind, gentle approach and hope to make this part of every day in this earth suit! 🙂

    I'm glad I found you. I live in retirement home. We try to have exercises. Today we had a lady come in to show us chair yoga. We just did yours on you tube. It felt so good I came home and looked you up. Also I love your dog. That helped me find you. I plan on doing this every day now. I had a knew replacement yrs ago and can get on the floor. This perfect for me. Thank you so much for this.

    Hi Kristie I recently experienced a TIA stroke that affected my dominant left side. I'm doing the chair yoga and can feel my left side: shoulder, arm, side, hip and knee becoming more flexible each time I workout w/ you. I humbly grateful that I was led to this video. Before I was very healthy physically and did regular yoga This gives me hope that I'll be able to do full yoga again... HalleluYah!!! 😇🕊

    Hi Kirstie, just wanted to tell you how much I love your videos after wadeing through a good few. I'm 60 waiting for a knee replacement also need to loose some wait which I was finding hard because I can't walk because of my knees, sort of a catch 22, and getting discouraged because I used to be pretty athletic. My goal is to ride horses again and with your videos I feel my strength coming back. So thank you and keep them coming!

    I am in my 60's and this is a great video for people with mobility issues. Some senior videos go too fast but this is a reasonable pace. I have had serious back issues for decades and due to a surgery, partially numb as some nerves never recovered. Thank you very much.

    So happy I found you I am 71 and get monthly infusion for RA for past 18 years which helps with the pain but I need three rebuild my core strength and improve on my over all health

    Thanks for this class. I am 66 and this is a great stretch and strength. I love the length of the video. Anything over 20 - 25 minutes I know I won't do. But this is perfect!

    I have been searching for a chair yoga class and I found yours to be exactly what I was looking for. I’m 63 years old and a caregiver to my husband who has Parkinson’s disease and a business owner. I’m realizing that I’m not taking care of myself the way I should.     Just tried this for the first time today. I'm 61, and used to love to do yoga in my younger days. My mobility isn't quite what it was (bad knees), but I really enjoy this video at this stage in my life. I definitely felt some great stretches!

    After a back injury I’ve been very limited as to what I can do, and while some claim “easy exercises”, it genuinely isn’t. I’m so glad to have found this video. I was able to do all the exercises with little to no discomfort. I didn’t expect to get emotional at the end, but it was a much needed release. Thank you.

    Marti; How has this been working for you? I teach Senior Seated Tai Chi which ignores the legs. When I saw this video I was interested in the leg work. Trying to find good safe movements for my students. Your comment makes me think I have found promising material.

    I just found this video today and decided to give it a try. I will be 62 in August. I have degenerative disc disease, have had 4 back surgeries & 3 fusions, rods and screws placed and later removed because a screw broke, nerve damage, a pinched nerve in my lower back, arthritis, and fibromyalgia along with other health issues. Needless to say, these things have made exercising very difficult. I was looking for something I could actually do. I completed this class today and feel great!! Thank you for giving us something that is easy enough to complete; I really feel like I accomplished something huge!! Thank you!!
