CHAINSAW CARBURETOR FUEL SCREW SETTINGS do this Inside Carb | FASCINATING!

This principle works for most types of Chainsaw saws, and the following also helps with Chainsaw maintenance. So, whether you are using a Stihl Chainsaw, Husquvarna Chainsaw, basically, all types of Petrol Chainsaw are valid for this principle, as well as many types of or a 2 Stroke Engine. The Electric Chainsaw, of course, escapes this whole principle!
The fuel adjustment screws in a small two-stroke chainsaw carburetor play a critical role in controlling the air-fuel mixture, which is essential for engine performance and combustion. Here's how they work:
Fuel Adjustment Screws: In a typical chainsaw carburetor, you'll find two adjustment screws - the high-speed screw and the low-speed screw. These screws are sometimes labeled as 'H' and 'L' for high and low-speed adjustments.
Air-Fuel Mixture Control: The purpose of these screws is to control the air-fuel mixture that enters the engine. Adjusting these screws allows you to change the ratio of air to fuel, which directly affects the engine's performance at different RPM (revolutions per minute) ranges.
High-Speed Screw (H): The high-speed screw primarily controls the air-fuel mixture at higher engine speeds or when the chainsaw is under load, such as when cutting wood. Turning this screw clockwise (clockwise = 'richer') will increase the fuel-to-air ratio, making the mixture richer and providing more fuel. Turning it counterclockwise (counterclockwise = 'leaner') will reduce fuel, making the mixture leaner. Proper adjustment ensures optimal performance and prevents the engine from running too hot.
Low-Speed Screw (L): The low-speed screw controls the air-fuel mixture at idle and low engine speeds. It's essential for smooth idling and starting. Turning this screw clockwise (clockwise = 'richer') will provide more fuel at low speeds, making the mixture richer. Turning it counterclockwise (counterclockwise = 'leaner') will make the mixture leaner. Proper adjustment ensures the chainsaw idles smoothly and accelerates without hesitation.
Initial Settings: To adjust these screws properly, you'll typically start by turning them gently clockwise until they lightly seat (don't overtighten). Then, you'll turn them counterclockwise a specific number of turns as a starting point, according to the manufacturer's recommendations. Fine-tuning is done by gradually turning the screws in small increments and observing the engine's performance.
Optimal Adjustment: Achieving the optimal air-fuel mixture is crucial for both engine performance and longevity. Too rich a mixture can cause carbon buildup, fouled spark plugs, and excessive smoke, while too lean a mixture can lead to overheating, poor performance, and potential engine damage.
Regular Maintenance: Keep in mind that carburetor adjustments can change over time due to factors like fuel quality and engine wear. Regular maintenance and occasional re-adjustment may be necessary to maintain optimal performance.
In summary, the fuel adjustment screws in a small two-stroke chainsaw carburetor allow you to control the air-fuel mixture at different engine speeds. Proper adjustment ensures the engine runs smoothly, delivers optimal power, and operates efficiently. It's essential to follow the manufacturer's recommendations and make fine adjustments carefully to maintain the chainsaw's performance.
Whether it be a Chainsaw Carburetor or carburettor from any other two stroke engine, the information given here will help you understand exactly what the adjustments are all about and demystify those dreaded fuel adjustment screw settings. This of course will give you the foundational understanding of how to tune a chainsaw for instance, or generally how to tune a two stroke carburetor. Because I'm asked mostly how to adjust chainsaw fuel screws, I made this video to help give a firm understanding of that.
I hope you find this video useful, and I really hope you enjoy it.
Many thanks indeed

When adjusting the H screw at wide open throttle with no load on the saw, we should leave our mixture slightly on the rich side (lumpy). Because when the saw is engaged in cutting some wood it needs slightly more fuel and if we set the H screw perfectly at no load we will be slightly lean while under load and we risk engine damage from a too lean condition if there’s not that extra bit of fuel/oil mixture. Better a little lumpy than a little lean. Thank you.
