2-Stroke Carburetor - Get 'JACKED' with Knowledge that Most Don't Know!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

A unique understanding of the Two-Stroke Carburettor usually fitted to a Weed Eater. Here I show you the workings of the 2 Stroke Carburetor that fits a 22cc 26cc 33cc 34cc 36cc 2 Stroke engine found on a Weed Eater/Weed Wacker, Multi Tool Hedge Trimmer, Brush cutter, Chainsaw, or small Petrol Gas Scooter Engines etc.
With it's signature Plastic Throttle Barrel, Single Adjuster Screw, it's Primer Bulb System and Double Fuel Pipes. When we look at it this way, it's quite daunting to think that we could service, diagnose faults and fix such a complicated looking 2-Stroke Carburetor. But, in fact, the only thing stopping anyone diagnosing and fixing a Carburetor like this is the fact that it's internal components and the way this carburettor functions is somewhat of a mystery. It does just seem quite complicated. But in this video I show you that it's not that complicated and I remove most, if not all, of those mysteries. So this video is beneficial for those who want to diagnose and repair their own car machines, but is ideal for the knowledge lovers.
Ok, so starting at the Primer Bulb side and we will look at a few key components here. First off is the primer bulbs retainer bracket. I this is removed by un screwing the 4 retainer screws. Now that the fuel primer bulb and the retainer have been removed, it exposes a special small pink rubber valve seated withing a black plastic metering diaphragm cover. This cover, and the following components now just lift off the main carburetor body. So, under this cover is the metering diaphragm, which sits on top of the metering diaphragm gasket. Then there is the metal metering system that houses the metering needle/valve, metering lever and metering spring. Lifting the metering system off reveals the fuel pump diaphragm and then it's fuel pump gasket.
So, in reverse order then. We have the fuel pump gasket, fuel pump, metal metering system, metering gasket, metering diaphragm, metering diaphragm cap with the rubber valve, followed finally by the primer bulb and it's retainer. So that's simply the sequence of the components, there's nothing more complicated in that sense.
When the components I mentioned have been removed it's quite difficult to put them back the wrong way round, providing one knows the correct sequence of the components. That is, the sequence mentioned above. That's because on each gasket, diaphragm, the metal metering system and the primer bulb retainer, there is 2 holes at one end, which are placed on 2 raised lugs on the body of the carb.
So there probably less components to the primer system than one may have originally thought. But now we know that, lets have a look at how this system functions. When the primer bulb is pressed, the air that was occupied inside the bulb is pushed out and down through the pink rubber valve underneath it.
I hope you find this video useful, and I really hope you enjoy it.
Many thanks indeed

@@TheRepairSpecialist I am reasonably sure you entirely missed the hi flow adjustment screw on this style of carb This style of carb IS NOT A SINGLE ADJUSTMENT SCREW If you look at the top of the throttle barrel that the cable attaches to in the centre of that is a large brass collar/screw you can see the rubber tube in the centre of the brass screw 19:43 Remove the rubber tube and there is a wee little adjustment screw hiding there to adjust that main jet needle On most verients at least hope this helps

Great content. Ive got a 2 stroke Waxker Neuson BH55 Breaker and its smokey. Also sounds a bit gaspy when throttle is applied but does seem to run

  • @TheRepairSpecialist

    @TheRepairSpecialist

    3 ай бұрын

Your Waxker Neuson BH55 Breaker may be experiencing problems with the fuel-air mixture, based on the symptoms you have mentioned. What you can do is as follows: Examine the air filter: A filthy or clogged filter can impede airflow to the engine, which can result in more smoke and a rich fuel-air mixture. Take off the air filter and look for any damage, dirt, or debris. If required, clean or replace the air filter. Examine the Fuel System: Look for any indications of contamination, leaks, or obstructions in the fuel tank, fuel filter, and fuel lines. Verify that there are no problems with fuel supply to the engine and that the fuel pump diaphragm is operating as intended. A problem with the carburetor adjustment may be indicated if the engine makes a "gaspy" noise when the throttle is applied. To guarantee the proper fuel-air mixture at all throttle positions, adjust the carburetor in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. Spark Plug Inspection: Increased smoke and poor engine performance can also be caused by a fouled or damaged spark plug. Take off the spark plug and check it for wear, damage or fouling. If required, clean or replace the spark plug. Compression Test: To assess the engine's general condition, conduct a compression test. Low compression may be a sign of damaged or worn-out cylinders, which may be the cause of smoking and subpar performance. Professional Inspection: It's recommended to speak with a qualified mechanic or technician that specialises in small engines if you're not sure how to diagnose or resolve the problem on your own. They are able to perform a comprehensive examination and diagnosis in order to find and fix any underlying problems with your Waxker Neuson BH55 Breaker. I hope this helps a little Craig

Absolutely brilliant! Question if you don't mind. My carburetor is very similar but has the adjustment screw down the middle of the throttle barrel? I assume turning this will alter how much the needle will engage into the jet? Very fiddly trying to adjust (if that is indeed how I adjust the fuel delivery on this setup!). Yes you are correct see at 19:43 that his has a rubber tube blocking it This is the hi flow needle The low flow he shows in the video but calls it the fuel to air mixture The animation showed it had no way of limiting or adjusting the air flow So I would say it has to be the lo mixture screw and air is regulated by the idle limit screw he also explained So yes you are correct they do have a third mixture screw and it's the hi flow mixture screw they tried to hide a little too successfully for my liking Hope this helps

Great explanations. However, I think I have something you haven't covered. Qualcast CBD30A 2 Stroke strimmer will only start when I empty the fuel out!!! So, it is flooding with fuel when starting is attempted the usual way. I have cleaned carb, set both screws to one turn, fresh fuel, good spark. I see fuel rising into the carb and then dripping or rather running out of the carb. Is this a bad diaphragm/valve issue? Could it be as simple as the fuel cap although removing it doesn't appear to stop the flow. Help please!

Quick question on that carburetor you have a brass can you have a brass tube that is bent you have two fuel lines that go into the tank which of those brass tubes the straight of the bent gets the fuel filter attached into the tank

Another idea for a video. I own a paramotor (a basic 2 stroke engine with a walbro wb37 carb) I rebuilt the carb but overlooked the fact that I put the carb back on without the inlet spacer. (This goes between the engine and the carb) I tuned the engine and all was fine. Until someone told me. So I replaced it but in order to get the engine running right again I had to make it rich by around 3/4 turn. (Quite a lot for just a spacer) I know it will change the atmospheration but I didn't think it would be that much different) would you be able to go into more detail on this and 2nd question is if it runs with less fuel without the spacer would I not be better off removing it and tuning it to use less fuel ?

I am fairly sure it's a safety thing mate Heat barrier to stop fuel warming Another hint too this is the fact they tend to use plastics Also having it setup to use a little more fuel is tactical because it reduces engine wear and heat How do you go about setting the carbs to perform at it's best when the oxygen is reduced from the altitude May sound daft but do you set them up half way up a really good mountain or something I always wondered

Hi i have one of these carbs on a Gscooter i took the top off and the spring and valve all dropped out my question is when relocating the black valve does it have to have a full turn to wind the spring up so when it all back together is returns to the closed position . as im having a nitemare with a cold start on it but once i get it running wit heasi start it runs fine . do you have any prefered screw turns for the top jet and the side screw air/fuel one as this is at 4 turns which i dont think is right any help would be appreciated

Hi. Can you tell me why the purge bulb is not filling with gas all the way up ? Is filling only half with gas no matter how many times I press it. Is the culprit that red check valve that's underneath the purge bulb or is the other check valve that's bad ? I would much appreciate if you could give me an answer. Tank you sir.

@TheRepairSpecialist PLEASE PIN THIS I am reasonably sure you entirely missed the hi flow adjustment screw on this style of carb This style of carb IS NOT A SINGLE ADJUSTMENT SCREW If you look at the top of the throttle barrel that the cable attaches to in the centre of that is a large brass collar/screw you can see the rubber tube in the centre of the brass screw 19:43 Remove the rubber tube and there is a wee little adjustment screw hiding there to adjust that main needle/hi flow On most verients at least not found one without this YET¡!¡ The screw you called air/fuel mixture screw is the lo mixture screw your own animation even showed it had no way to affect the air flow I can only assume that the air is controlled by the idle screw as it's the only adjustment that is in any way linked to the air regulation barrel hope this helps Fantastic work must have taken a long time to put that together I learnt I had a good understanding of this carb but I learnt a lot more too Keep up the good work And kudo's for teaching me something about this style of carb

Is mechanic spelled differently in Great Britain? Looks like a Walbro carburetor. They are usually Zama and sometimes Walbro. Sometimes the check valves on primer block go bad. I really appreciate your thorough explanation.

Do you have any basic settings for both the main adjustment screw and the tiny screw that is down the centre of the rotary valve? Im doing a favour for a local motoX group and their strimmer wont run. Put a new coil on as no spark but I think both screws out of adjustment and its constantly flooding. Thanks. Great videos too! 👍👍👍

I'm glad to hear you find the videos helpful, and thank you so much for your kind comment. I do have some general ideas of the sort of thing that might help but please understand that it is always difficult to diagnose a machine if it if not present and in front of me, but here goes. Troubleshooting a brush cutter that won't start even after replacing key components can be a bit of a puzzle, but I'm here to help you sort it out. Here are some steps you can take: Double-Check Installation: Ensure that the new carburetor, spark plug, gaskets, and coil are correctly installed. Even a small misalignment or a loose connection can cause starting issues. Fuel Check: Quality of Fuel: Make sure you're using fresh, correctly mixed fuel (if your brush cutter is a two-stroke engine). Old or improperly mixed fuel can cause starting problems. Fuel Flow: Check if fuel is reaching the carburetor. Clogged fuel lines or filters can impede fuel flow. Spark Plug Inspection: Spark: Remove the spark plug, attach the plug wire, and hold the plug's body to a metal part of the engine. Pull the starter cord and check for a spark. No spark could indicate an issue with the ignition system. Condition: Ensure the spark plug is clean and gapped correctly. A dirty or improperly gapped spark plug can prevent starting. Air Flow: Air Filter: A dirty air filter can obstruct air flow. Clean or replace it if necessary. Carburetor Air Intake: Make sure there’s no blockage in the carburetor’s air intake. Compression Check: Low engine compression can prevent starting. This might be more challenging to test without the right tools, but a significant drop in compression often indicates internal engine issues. Check the On/Off Switch: Sometimes the issue can be as simple as a faulty on/off switch. Consult the Manual: Refer to the user manual for specific troubleshooting tips for your brush cutter model. Seek Professional Help: If you've tried all these steps and your brush cutter still won't start, it might be time to take it to a professional. They can provide a more thorough diagnosis and repair. Remember, safety first! Always follow the manufacturer's instructions and safety guidelines when working on your brush cutter. Good luck, and I hope you get your brush cutter up and running soon! Craig

I took one apart for the first time to clean it without any guidance and now it won't prime anymore.. Watching your video made me realise that the fuel line blows fuel instead of sucking it.. wonder why is that.
