Hello Craig I've noted that my strimmers all run at 50:1 mix whereas the chain saws are 40:1 and 25:1 .I've always wondered why this is .Thanks, Ian 😊

Hi. This is probably the best electronic video I’ve ever seen. I came here because the igniter on my gas engine weed whacker stopped producing spark. With the help of other videos I correctly came to the conclusion that the igniter had failed. Still under guarantee I wrote to the seller explaining the problem. They wanted me to return the entire tool’ but I explained I could send them the igniter but their next email stated that they could only give me a refund because the tool is out of stock. In the meantime I purchased another igniter from china, installed it and it creates spark. But trying to start it the engine bucked a little so I decided to check the installation AND THAT’S WHEN I SAW THAT THE POSITION OF THE MINI COIL IS ABOUT A CENTIMETER EARLY. Which to me means that the timing is off. But I wasn’t sure until I watched your video. It’s truly a work of art! Thanx so much for creating it.

A great video. Thanks a lot. Incidentally, my hedge trimmer had the adjusting screw in a recess and with a pacman head (slot on one edge). So I jammed a nylon rawl plug onto its 5mm dia head and unscrewed it fully and then cut a slot in the top for a normal screw driver to fit, as I don't have a pacman screw driver.

Good morning. Excellent technical explanations in your videos. I have a question...let's see if you can help me. In these electronic ignition systems with a magnetic plate...is there any way to know if the spark is produced in the spark plug at the right time, when the piston is in the right place? In the old systems with a breaker or breakers, we do not look at the moment of separation of the breaker. In these electronics is there any way to know when the spark occurs????

Hello Maestro it is me Tony ...I want to tank you for your replay to my questions ... this time I like to ask about chainsaw that that I bought from a fellow ---I am sorry to say it but he cheated me --- It is an HUSQVARNA 236 It has plenty compression but would not start and if it does only goes for a short time then dies ....I check the carburettor the gaskets were not so hard but I decided to buy a new one from China it come with a different gasket from the old one that goes between the the cylinder and the carburettor but it fits ok .Put everything together and try to start it but doesn't start checked if there sparks it is ok then checked if the spark plug is wet but it is not ...the primary works so since it is a ne carb what do you suggest I should do ? Thank you

I believe the phases "balls to the wall" and (to go) "balls out" come from steam engines. Specifically a centrifugal governor with ball shaped weights was used to control engine speed. When the engine was operating at maximum speed, the ball weights of the governor were fully out due to centrifugal force. For an engine mounted indoors, the balls would be towards the interior walls of the building. I've always wondered what was inside the crankcase on a small engine. I should have expected a centrifugal governor.

I have an engine oil viscosity question. My V8 Challenger calls for 5w 20 oil. If I don't let the car warm up to where the oil is at least 140 degrees the next cold start you will hear the lifters clacking. I switched to 5w 30 oil. I can now start the car and turn it off after a short time and the next could start is quiet. Is this because the thinner oil is bleeding out of the lifters ? So 5w 30 seems to completely resolve my issue. Do you think its safe to run the 5w 30 for the long term?
